  1. Saw this article this morning and immediately thought of you. This should be required pre-surgery reading for every WLS patient and I wish I would have seen it 30 years ago before I tried to starve myself. http://thestir.cafemom.com/healthy_living/152848/woman_loses_180_pounds_is
  2. There are a load of people in one of the DFW support groups that are from the Frisco area. Let me know if you want details.
  3. Not trying to discourage you, but I recommend reading this: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/292173-you-should-not-consider-bariatric-surgery-if/
  4. The veterans in this thread who have shared their experiences with you have sacrificed so much in their lives, trying to lose weight and have endured immeasurable hardships to get to the point where they are today. They have families that have sufferered alongside of them in their journey. These people who have shown concern for you and have taken time out of their lives to advise you are supposed to be okay with you saying "if you just put your mind into something you can do just about anything" and "If I follow this diet plan I can lose as much as anyone else"? Do you not see how insulting this is? You don't understand why people are being hostile or negative towards you? I understand you can't afford the surgery right now. In the meantime do a lot of reading, ask a lot of questions, adjust your attitude and don't assume for a second you know something about losing weight that we don't. We've been where you are, but you don't know what you think you do about where we are. Lastly, if you want things sugar-coated for you this is probably not a good place for you.
  5. OMG YOU LOST 7 POUNDS IN 4 DAYS? How amazing are you? At that rate you're gonna lose 50 pounds in a month! Mind over matter, dang! I could have been at goal already.
  6. There are loads of DFWers here, me included! If you haven't already, I highly suggest you start visiting the many support groups in this area: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/259587-dfw-area-weight-loss-surgery-support-groups-list/
  7. I am 7 months out with 171 pounds lost. It is not my intent to brag but to establish who I am and from where I came and where I am. Inside I feel I am the same person I was this time last year at 416 pounds. I am in disbelief daily when I look at the size tag on my pants and shirts or when I see a 12:30 pace or 4 miles completed on the treadmill. I get complimented often and it feels like they're talking about someone else. I am a little uncomfortable with having my picture taken these days but not as much as before. I look in the mirror and love what I see in clothes but not so much in the nude with the skin sagging. I have judgmental thoughts of other WLSers who I see eating unhealthy but i would never express anything openly as I am reminded often of the food addict that I still am. I don't see people the same way. When I lost a whole bunch of weight about 30 years ago I remember having contempt for people that were obese. Having gained twice the weight I lost and more before surgery has a way of humbling you. Now I feel pity and sadness for them and i remember vividly how i felt at their size. I never really socialized before surgery so I find myself in more social situations these days and I am VERY uncomfortable around people i don't know. Through a local WLS support group I have met an incredible group of people whom I now consider friends. I love being with them and hanging out with them. More than being told how good I look I enjoy being told that I'm inspiring someone in their journey, even in the smallest way. I will go out of my way to be encouraging to someone who is struggling although I may not always notice without a bright neon sign for me. This is not a result of WLS but one of my many personality flaws. I hope i have answered your questions.
  8. If you're squeezing oranges yourself that's certainly better than from concentrate but I'm thinking you should be hydrating with Water or something comparable (Powerade Zero is my favorite). Your surgeon has the final word - you should call for this one.
  9. I'm in Mesquite, sleeved Oct 17th. Hi from Forney!
  10. Yowza, look at you! Not sure where you're gonna get that last 20 from, you're so little now!
  11. Hi. My name is Carlos. I was sleeved on 5/28/13. While not by Dr. Nicholson, I know people that were. I highly recommend getting involved with one of the local DFW groups - you will find support.
  12. Congrats! So happy for you! I won't wish you luck in getting your goal. Make your own luck and go get what's yours!
  13. They told me very strongly that it would cause more air.. pain.. less consumption etc..etc..etc.. same line same hook. Guess I'll just go along for now I was told the same. Do what your surgeon tells you!
  14. Or, it wouldn't suck. HA! See what I did there? [facepalm] Really?
  15. i was bound and determined after surgery to do what I was told so I had my log and I was drinking my Water faithfully. With my Camelbak water bottle. Where the contents are delivered - via a straw. No issues, however, do what you doctor tells you.
  16. Until I saw the bra strap, i thought you had posted a picture of me! (love the annotations, by the way! )
  17. Amy, I gotta tell you I'm getting choked up reading your post here and seeing your pics. I'm so proud of you and so so happy for you! You've done amazing and you are every bit the inspiration you wanted to be and lots more!
  18. You might want to call your surgeon's office as you will get different answers from different people here. I was released to full liquids so in addition to water, Protein Shakes, sugar-free Jello, popcicles i was allowed Soup that was blended and had any lumps, bumps, or chunks strained out of it.
  19. I am new to the FitBit world and have had my Force for a week. I like it. I will continue to use my Polar Heartrate monitor at the gym, however.
  20. I started this year at 416lbs. I am now 256. My goal is to get as close to 175 as possible.
