    Sleep apnea

I brought mine but I have been using it. I actually just had to bring the tubing and mask and they provided the machine for the night. I enjoy sleeping and was not doing that before without my CPAP. Am going to see if I need it when the weight comes off at some point, but for now I enjoy sleeping well.
  2. I WAS REALLY WORRIED ABOUT THAT FOOD RELATIONSHIP BUT I HAVE FOUND THAT I DON'T MISS IT AS MUCH AS I THOUGHT I WOULD. I STILL LIKE FOOD, I HAVE THINGS I LIKE, BUT I JUST DON'T HAVE TO HAVE SO MUCH OF IT AND THAT MAKES ME FEEL REALLY GOOD. FOOD HAS BEEN MY DRUG OF CHOICE FOR A LONG TIME BUT I AM OK HAVING A NEW RELATIONSHIP WITH IT. GOOD LUCK AND WELCOME!!

ummm... kind of a big deal

That was something we talked (and giggled) about at one of our support group meetings. It makes total sense to me how excited you are. Those little pleasures in life some people take for granted. Congrats!!

    frustrated

Your post said you are stalled so that means you have not gained anything back. That is good. Look back and start with the basics and don't give up. Throwing up may be an issue and I was curious what your doctor has said. I hope all is well there but being very careful and keeping a diary of what sets it off or how much. I am glad you have stopped the drinking but it is so important to seek help for depression, it is a medical condition that can be helped. Good luck.

    A little bummed

We just had a get together this summer and I was down about 55 pounds then and I had a few say something and others did not say a word. I think that when they do not say anything it is not always that they did not notice, but maybe they noticed and did not say anything for several reasons; possibly jealous, don't want to say anything as if it might mean you were heavier before , they just are not the complimenting type, etc. I was a little put off by it on my end, but I figure I know I lost the weight and that is the important part. People come in all styles and some just do not know how to compliment. We are happy for you though!!

    silly question

I was in for 1 night, also. Felt fine but that first day went really fast and I was trying to remember all that went on with all the people I talked to.
  7. That is a lack of communication if ever I heard one! That is awful and downright sad. I hope all is a go here for you real soon.
  8. Nice post. I think that may be a new trick of mine, understanding time with corn. I do know I will not be rushing out to buy the bars. Might check it out because, sad to say, I do like sweets, but I will not rush.
  9. Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Not easy and if you have a funeral or people around there is food around. It is tough, the worst part I had. I was so concerned though for a safe surgery that it was my motivation. I had 3 shakes, 1 protein bar and one protein soup a day during mine. I agree with the soup/broth idea, that should help with the feeling of having "food." Hang in there. It is so much better after surgery so just keep that in mind.

    New to the group...

Welcome PaulaJ. It is a fun ride and one that seems to change all the time. It was not that long ago I was in your shoes and very excited and could hardly think of anything else. I am so happy with this decision and so glad I did it. I also had a hiatal hernia fixed while they were in there. Good luck on your journey.

    shrimp

I love shrimp and have had no problems since being sleeved.
  12. What she said! I actually had the wrong paperwork and so the first week I was not concentrating on protein at all but rather just getting my fluids and my surgeon was fine with it. It is very hard at first, just do what you can and keep track and try hard to add it as you can. Of course, your nutritionist and doctor are your ultimate advisors. Good luck.
  13. The issue with bowels is you are not putting much in so don't expect much out. Don't overdo the fiber situation thinking you will be like it was before. The drinking early out is the main issue and just keep working on drinking. It will get easier and then all of a sudden you need to change and add something so don't get hung up on too much. They tell you what they want you to do and then every time I went to my doctor and showed him what I was doing he thought it was great even though I could not get what the paper said. You try to do what you can and measure so you know. Good luck and welcome.

What do you tell the haters?

I have had a couple people give me the look before surgery, like "what are you doing that for? Are you crazy?" But that same person just told me how great I am looking now that I am down 55 pounds and their attitude was totally different. If you are confident in your decision, tell them your reasons. It is kind of nice to repeat it and have it stick and make it your own. I know exactly why I chose what I chose and I am so happy with my decision. There will always be haters, but not saying anything risks not having those others that are supportive in your corner. it is up to you but don't let them get to you. Ask those who have been through it.
  15. What's fun to see is not only how great you are looking, but how great that smile is. Wow--great job.

    5 mo questions

Even though 2 pounds does not sound like much after what you have done, it is a good weight loss. If you are losing it is okay, heck even if you hold for a while. Don't worry. You are not done yet.

    cravings

The interesting part is how wonderful the simple taste of refried beans will be

    sweet treat full of protein

I have done one with the cool whip, cottage cheese, orange Jell-O and mandarin oranges. That is yummy too. I like a different twist with your version.

    Medic Alert bracelet

I stand corrected, not sure what I was thinking--actually thinking of a PEG tube, not an NG tube so I was not thinking, which happens from time to time.
  20. Vanilla with frozen mango and peach slices is one of my favorites.

    Medic Alert bracelet

The thing is usually an NG tube is not an emergent thing like someone would need with some issues they have a medical ID for. I would think by the time they got to that point they would be in tune with the patient have a sleeve, obvious on any image. But maybe they know something I don't. My surgeon has not mentioned that either. Would think bypass would need it to even though it is only stapled and not removed, could still be punctured, but then again, not sure. Very interesting.

    Surgery postponed

What a bummer but it will be alright, must be for a good reason. The preoperative diet was hard because we had the hunger, but it was so important to me to have a good successful and safe surgery so keep thinking in those terms and you will whip through this next week no problem.

To tell or not to tell

I work at a hospital and people are smart and I have a hard time not telling the truth so I found it was much easier to share the information. There are some that are less supportive than others but that is true of any situation. People in my life know I have tried to lose weight before, more than once, and to all of a sudden lose weight "magically" is a quite a stretch so the truth seemed easier. I don't regret.
  24. Lori228

    The look

Sometimes people who are jealous or wish they were losing weight tend to say something semi-spiteful because they are not losing and so the fact that you losing, no matter how fast or slow, is still losing. Smile when you tell them how much you have lost and be proud of your success. If you are anything like me before surgery there was no weight loss or if there was there was a weight gain that went along with it.

    At a loss for words!

That is so great you have them in your corner now. It is so important to have positive people and support. You have obviously been doing well doing this on your own but it is great to have them in your corner. Happy Birthday!
