Ask for a prescription of PPI - like Prilosec, Prevacid - I take Prevacid, I hear it also kills the hunger feeling sometimes too not sure if you are feeling hungry with it! Thanks! Support really is a blessing! Rooting for you as well, great progress!

I'm a nurse too! Fortunately, I didn't have staples, just steri-strips which have me itching like crazy. I can't wait to be out of the 300s I'm so excited for you- that is a great weight loss! Glad your feeling better, I cannot wait to be off of liquids & eating something with a little consistency. I did find another protein shake today and it's been doing wonders for me! It's weird because just so much the smell of vanilla makes me queasy. We are very close in stats! So nice that I can keep up with someone close in range with myself & our surgeries were pretty close too!

Grumpy tummy...
Glad this question was asked! I was wondering the same thing. My tummy rumbles at everything too.

Sick and tired of full liquids and protein shakes!
If you've ever had the Reese's Puff cereal and like it Whey Protein has a Chocolate Peanut Butter Flavor (powder) that tastes just like the cereal with skim milk - I bought some tonight because I first bought the Vanilla kind, but just so much as the smell of Vanilla makes me sick. Trying it now and am so excited that I found as I will now have a better chance at getting in all my protein and fluids!

I hate to admit it
I felt the same way. In fact, I was in the ER last night with a heart rate so high I don't even want to mention it. I flipped out in the ER. I was crying. Dehydrated and for the first time a doctor said by the looks of my labs I'm anorexic. They ruled out a blood clot thank God & the second they ran fluids on me I felt immediately better. It was amazing. I still feel exhausted today. I haven't been sleeping well either. I constantly wonder how I'm ever going to get enough in to nourish my body. Thankfully, my two week follow up appointment is Wednesday. I felt so horrible - dizzy, my heart was beating out of my chest, faint, shortness of breath - the whole shebang. Anyways, I hope you feel better, but I do know what you are going through and commend you because although I don't have children to worry about - I know how scary it feels. I've been crying for a few days now.

Lettuce
This whole thread is making me so jealous - that is all I want! A salad, even pre-op I would have went crazy for some lettuce and dressing! Can't wait till I can resume this meal!

So sorry to hear about your misfortune, I constantly have panic attacks about getting one so the fact that you can still come out of that as a positive person says a lot about your character and I only wish you success & good fortune from here! Would love to keep in touch. How tall are you? The reason I ask is because we are relatively close in weight. sleeping right now sucks for me. I can sleep on my left side gently, and then end up back on my back which has also caused me all kinds of back trouble. Can't wait to sleep in my bed! I actually was just discharged from an ER visit for dehydration. Increased pulse rate, shortness of breath, crying, freaking out, pain, etc - felt 10xs better after Fluid was administered. So now I need to push fluids CONSTANTLY. I go for a follow up on the 13th supposed to be bumped up to purées. I can only hope. Between pre & post op - I've been on liquids for 30 days. I'm literally ready to chew my fingers off - head hunger, but I'd love a piece of celery stick with Italian dressing right now. Congrats on your weight loss so far. I have been under 300# in about 5 years! Age: 21 SW:326 Weight day before surgery(after pre-op liquid Protein diet): 303 I will weigh in on the 13th & will see how much I've lost since my surgery. I've been trying not to become attached to my scale!

I'm still sleeping on my back & on a sofa and it's literally throwing sleep out the window for me. I'm going to start getting back to sleeping on my sides, then eventually my tummy. I'm usually a hard sleeper and being on the couch at first has helped not be all over the place.

Sick and tired of full liquids and protein shakes!
Premier is a decent one, however, after surgery, I had to use protein powder with water because the ready to drinks ones ( most of them ) are too thick to consume with a new sleeve, but these guidelines were for my doctor. Everybody has different guidelines. Since then - I've introduced skim milk which has helped with caloric intake because right now I'm lucky if I'm getting 300. The protein powder is just frothy. I might try isopure again today with 40g a bottle. That might help me and the. Drink another with skim milk and protein powder. I know I need to push myself - just don't want to over do it. I used to love SF Popsicles too, but after surgery my taste buds have changed towards them & I don't enjoy them at all. I tolerate the grape with crushed vitamins.

Sick and tired of full liquids and protein shakes!
Going through the same thing, you actually read my mind. Between pre-op and post-op I've been on liquids for about 30 days, ready for something with a little consistency. Although, I can have Crystal Light etc, some of them just do not taste the same anymore. & my stomach grumbles, and mixes between a hiccup and a burp constantly. Hope it gets better, soon.

Vets, can you eat 1 taco or only a few bites?
Lol!

Vets, can you eat 1 taco or only a few bites?
Lol! Those commercials always make me laugh. I guess just this early out - still in the liquid phase, it's nice to know there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Vets, can you eat 1 taco or only a few bites?
Glad for all the responses - thanks ladies for your time!

Vets, can you eat 1 taco or only a few bites?
Extremely happy to hear someone far out was able to eat at least one taco!

Vets, can you eat 1 taco or only a few bites?
Glad you asked this. I worry constantly about never being able to eat more than just two bites for the rest of my life. Moderation is fine, but just a couple of bites forever seems extreme to me - -not that I want to go carb crazy, but want to be reassured that I'll be able to indulge every now and then. I'm still on liquids too, but I have a follow up on the 13th and should be introducing purées after that.

Surgery monday and I have diarhea
I've read a lot about this. It seems to be a common problem. If you are using Protein powder that could be the culprit. I also have this problem - I use the Protein Powder & hate it. I do hear that constipation does set in not too long after this stage though. If it's persistent - I would call the doctor, you don't need anymore factors playing in dehydration. Good luck!

What Should I Ask My Surgeon?
Pain management in hospital & at home, lifting restrictions, when you can return to work/driving, diet restrictions and length of time, a number to call if problems arise, follow up care- how often, how long does it take him to perform the surgery (this might be pretty standard, but still a good question), how long is hospital stay, pre-op testing, nausea medication if you should need it, also if you have any allergies or have had reactions to any medications let them know, does he use steri-strips, tape, glue, stitches on the sites, does he use drains, you can ask his stats/ratings/success rate, also hear a lot of people use gas-x strips- you may want to inquire with the physician about using this as it may be to your benefit, how long (if your dr. even requires it) do you have to crush your medications/vitamins, do they use blood thinners, scds/teds to prevent blood clots, do they do a swallow study before being discharged to home (I believe most do, but have heard some who haven't), exercise restrictions & how soon you can start walking after surgery as it hurts to get up but helps TREMENDOUSLY with gas pains and it gets easier every day the more you do it, also ask about incentive spirometer, one more this may apply to you not sure just a suggestion - but resuming sexual practices and his recommendations on that. Also if you plan on having a baby, most surgeons have guidelines for that too. Think that's all! Needless to say, I gave my dr. the 5th degree lol but you can never be to cautious or mindful. Good luck and congrats!

incisions
No. I think that my itching may be from healing, nothing is inflamed, no redness, just itchy at the sites. Hoping they heal soon. You might just want to touch base with your doctor before it worsens - he may be able to prescribe you something for the inflammation/reaction.

incisions
I have steri strips and am itching like crazy. My strips are lifting but don't look like they are budging any time soon. No welts though. I would call the Dr. Good luck!

Where did you notice the weight loss first?
I worry I will lose everything but where I need to (waist) ready for the inner tube to disappear.

*Rolls eyes* Do I really have to give up Coke?!
1) I've read about people having them just watering them down. 2) the question will be if you go through this and still have the taste buds for it or want it. (My taste buds have changed tremendously and I'm a newbie. 2.28.13 (surgery date) 3) if you can ever have one again, it will be awhile after post op. 4) there is so much gas (burping/the other end) connected to this - I can only imagine what that kind of carbonation will do. Not saying no, just my opinion. I personally haven't had any soft drinks for about a month now & I was addict - could go through a half a case in a day or two. But I'm honestly not craving them.
