  1. My husband was opposed until he met the surgeon. I had to really beg him to go, but after that he was on board. I think it really helped for him to hear the surgeon explain my risks of remaining obese.

    July 5th

So now that we are a week+ out, how much weight has everyone lost? As of this morning I was down 6.6 lbs since the morning of the 5th.

I'm on 2 FB groups for July sleevers. One I just found by searching. The other someone set up from over on the buddies and mentors board.

    July 5th

Today is my first day without pain meds (so far). I also spent 2 days in the hospital and am glad I did. I was not ready to come home before that. I'm doing well now. Heading out for a walk in a moment. Meeting all my water and protein goals. I think I'm going to be sick of these liquids pretty soon though. Actually I'm already getting a little bored at home. I'm off until e 22nd so I gotta think of something fun to do.

    Getting sleeved on July 18th

I was nervous too. I'd never been in the hospital, and my first IV was when I got the endoscopy before approval. Once I got there on the morning of I accepted the "little something to relax" (Verced) and was glad I did. Everything went well. I think having the Verced helped me not totally freak out when they rolled me in the operating room and I was strapped down under the lights. It was surreal and interesting instead of terrifying. You will be on the other side of it in no time. Deep breaths. Keep following your pre-op diet. I took comfort in knowing I'd followed the pre-op diet precisely and I'd done what I could to make the surgery as easy and as safe as possible. Congrats on almost making it there!
  6. Now that quite a few of us are sleeved (and more every day!), I thought it would be nice to have a space for general post-op discussion. Share experiences, troubles, questions...I know that now that I'm home for another 12 days, I'd love to have another thread to check obsessively. :-) So how is everyone doing? I'm 5 days post-op and trying today with no meds. My biggest discomfort is the deep bruising around the big incision where they removed the stomach. But wow...I can't believe how quickly everything is getting better! I felt like ass on Friday after surgery...can't believe that was just a few days ago. Walking is going well. I'm getting about 2.5 miles in, which I break into multiple shorter walks for comfort. I've gotten all my Water and Protein in so far. No vomiting. The bruises all over my body are fading quickly. I'm down 4.4 pounds since the morning of surgery, and I'd lost 14.2 during the pre-op week so it feels like I'm losing really fast. People have noticed and it feels good. So who else wants to chime in?

    Anyone in Oregon ?

I work for the state, so I have the Providence PEBB Statewide plan. You?

    Anyone in Oregon ?

I think they require an endoscopy of everyone getting a sleeve or bypass. You are not put under general anesthesia, but you are given Verced and Fentanyl which sedates you and means you don't remember anything. I didn't feel anything at all. The worst part was getting the IV. I was really tired and kinda loopy for the rest of the day. Don't plan to do anything important. :-)

    Anyone in Oregon ?

This thread is getting a little old but I just found it. I had my surgery with Dr Folek 4 days ago. I think I saw you at the support group meeting last week. How are things going? Where are you in the process?

    July 8

I am on meds for acid that the surgeon prescribed, so no reflux for me. I'm 4 days post-op, so just now on my second day of full liquids. I spent 2 nights in the hospital and felt like I really needed it. I couldn't imagine going home before that...I was still having a lot of trouble with anesthesia side effects before that. Anyway, the thing I'm having the mist trouble with is sipping slowly enough. When I'm thirsty I just want to drink! But I've managed to get the fluids and protein in so far. I have felt significantly better each day. It will get better!
  11. I just sent my info for the FB group. My surgery was 3 days ago and I would love some buddies to go through this with.

    July 5th

I'm scheduled for the 5th. I started my liquid diet today. Going to bed hungry. Bought all my vitamins today. My mom flies in to help take care of my kids on Monday. Last day of work will be Tuesday. The time can't go fast enough!

    Approval Requirements?

My surgeon's requirements were stricter than my insurance. I had my info seminar in November. It took me a whole to take the next step, so it wasn't until late January that I had my surgeon's consult. Then I had the psychologist and nutritionist, 2 nutrition classes (2.5 hours each), sleep study (no apnea), cardiac stress test, upper endoscopy, complete labs early in the process and I'll be redoing them for pre-op this week, lose 20 lbs, meet with anesthesia and surgeon again this week, and then 1 week of liquids.

    4 weeks!

I know how excited you are. I'm July 5th too! I finished all my hurdles months ago...just been waiting. My pre-op appointment is next Thursday. Yay!
