    Scary Chest Pain

I immediately think PE when I hear of chest pain on inspiration within a short time of surgery or hospitalization. Go to the ER.

Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)

Hey guys, I am at work, 7p-7a working as rapid response team tonight. I am surfing the net waiting for some excitement...so now I am thinking I need to get up off my butt and go for a walk but I dont want to. Ugghh, why is it that I can go 90 mph in an emergency but can't find the energy to walk for 30 minutes when I have downtime??? Anyone else have this type of mindset?

Linda, square dancing? That sounds like excellent exercise. How did you get into that?
  7. ^ I agree. You are burning more calories than u are eating. That puts you at a deficit before you even start. Your attitude is good for us out here, but as a fellow fat person I would have said the same thing and still been beating myself up. Try not to do that if you can because you are doing everything right...only tging you my want to have a couple higher calorie days and see what happens, make sure you eat a large amount of Protein as a part of those calories if you can. This will correct any protein deficits you have and tell your body you are not starving. I have read a good book on this called "smart exercise" it explains how the body reacts to exercise

I need to whine - dress sizes

Also watch out for the dreaded loss of muscle. A pound of fat is almost twice the size as a pound of muscle. If you are losing a lot of weight but not a lot of inches it could be that you are losing more muscle than you are fat. Only way to combat this is to exercise properly. There is a great book called "smart exercise" by covert bailey that I have read that explains the details and science behind exercise and losing fat instead of muscle.

Btw, I just realized I didnt congratulate you on your sobriety!!! I am very happy for you and I know that we nurses are very strong willed once we put our minds to accomplishing a goal. Keep your eye on the prize....our health....and staying out of an ICU bed, lol...

Linda, being busy is one of the things I love about being a nurse....it keeps me on my toes. But on my off days I get bored, must be my adhd, I find that I eat as a way to reduce the boredom. I really appr3ciate your post because I can see that I am at a high risk for trading my food addiction for a different addiction once sleeved. I am now starting to think about starting therapy to get a grip on it before it starts....also I realize that I need a hobby for my "off" time because my old hobby "eating" is going to be gone soon.

Linda, I was just taking care of a pt that was sleeved 5 years ago and was going through severe DT's when he decided to quit drinking. He ended up in my ICU intubated for 2 days. When he started coming around we talked for a while, said it started slowly because he was bored and didnt have anything to do with his time in the evenings and weekends and then it gradually escalated to a bottle of vodka a day. Good for you that you recognized it...I can see this being a problem for us nurses when we get home after a bad day and cant eat bad food to self medicate....so we turn to alcohol instead. Like I said good for you, thank yoi for sharing.

    Hcg

I was wondering the same thing since i had temporary success on hcg in the past. I pretty much have concluded that there is no science to fall back on that it would be good or bad. My main reason for leaning towards NOT is that it wont help me learn good habits from the beginning and i need to use those early months as a way to relearn eating and learn about what it feels like to work my new sleeve so I dont ever regain the weight like I have so many times in the past.

Hi guys! I am a critical care RN in the Orlando area. Been a nurse since 1996, seems like just yesterday. The knowledge of what can happen in the long run from obesity is why i am going forward with the sleeve, that is more scary to me than the idea of complications from this surgery. I am waiting for the last paperwork to come in before they can submit to insurance.

    Diet Coke Addiction

Another diet coke addict here. I used to drink 1 to 2 big 2-liters a day. I loved the tingly burn on my tongue from the CO2. I learned that I can not have carbonation and decided right then to stop....then another 2 weeks went by before I finally stopped cold turkey about a week ago. I have started drinking coolaid made with splenda and different flavors of herbal tea. I think i will choose my new addiction, it will be good loose leaf herbal teas.
  15. I found a good article about natural herbs to eat that are good for this. http://www.easytogrowherbs.com/Top-10-Anti-Inflammatory-Herbs.html
  16. I am an ICU nurse, since I have trouble getting enough fluids presurgery this was one thing I have been concerned about too. I am still in the prelim stages so I appreciate this topic being addressed.
  17. I am still in the tests and weight management phase for insurance purposes. I am convinced that the achy pain I always have is 2/3rds caused by the inflammation that high fructose corn syrup and trans fats cause, the rest I believe is caused by the weight. I can hardly wait to really take control of my diet once I am sleeved, this time it will be for life!
  18. How are you doing? And why in the world are you awake this early!
  19. I was concerned about this too since one of the first things the doctor told me on the very first appt was that I couldn't be on Voltaren (diclofenac) any longer since it is a NSAID. On a positive note, I will say this, last time I lost a lot of weight I did it primarily by cutting out trans fats and high fructose corn syrup and watching calories. Thing is my aches and pains were cut in half within 2 weeks of starting the diet and I was completely off the meds by the time I had lost 50 lbs. The problem was I only kept the weight off for about 8 months, then I was back on the Voltaren! But this time we will keep it off for good so it shouldnt matter. I choose healthy over being on a NSAID!
  20. So glad you are doing well! But I gotta ask, any incriminating tape residue on the girls?
  21. I am going for my psych eval on Monday and was doing some research about it tonight and stumbled onto the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery website (ASMBS) I found lots of good information there including this in depth guideline statement about the pre surgical psych assessment. Hope this helps someone else out there. http://s3.amazonaws....lAssessment.pdf
