  1. My nutritionist also told me that if I drink after eating, and I had eaten food that will soak up the water, it will expand and if I do it all the time, it could stretch my stomach.

    I screwed up!

My doctor told me that I can go back to excersing as soon as I feel good enough to do it. He said to just not overdue it and I should be fine. I was concerned about when I can go back to the gym because I don't want to get out of the habit of going. My discharge papers said to wait also, but I'm going to listen to my doctor and how my body tolerates it.
  3. I'm not a doctor, and you probably should share your concern with yours, but I think that if you follow his/her pre-op instructions, then you lessen the likelyhood of complications. I was told that I needed to lose 10 pounds before surgery to shrink my liver as that will lessen the risk of them cutting into it during the laproscopic procedure, which I just had yesterday.

    Pre surgery eating

I was never the type that ate because of the different mood I was in. I've just always ate when I felt hungry, and it wasn't always the best choices of food. I am having surgery tomorrow and am really craving fast food, but I think that's because my head knows I won't be eating that anymore. I have been doing 2 protien shakes a day and a "Smart Ones" dinner. I knew that wouldn't fill me up, so I have been eating lots of fruit in between. By day 4 of this diet, eating an apple totally made me feel full. I have read many posts where it seems like some peoples taste buds have changed. I guess I'll be finding out soon! LOL Good luck!
  5. My surgery is tomorrow as well (YAY us!). I'm nervous and have been very tempted to go out and get my favorite fast food to have one last taste of it, but I didn't and the urge is driving me crazy. I've been trying to keep myself busy so that I wouldn't think too much about this, but knowing me, I'll be up late tonight thinking. That I don't mind since I don't check into the hospital until 9:15 tomorrow. Hopefully, I will be able to sleep in and not have too much time to think about wanting to eat.

    EGD...ugh!

I had mine done on Tuesday. They told me after I woke up that all was normal. After I got home, they called me with the results of the punch biopsy they did and told me that I have H pylori and prescribed meds to treat it. Surgery wasn't rescheduled because of this, and although it sucks to find out that you have a medical problem, I'm glad they found it because if not treated, it can lead to serious problems later on. And, by the way, I didn't have any symptoms, no reflux at all.
  7. I also have BC/BS and they are covering my surgery. All I can say is to follow the rules that they have to qualify for the coverage. My policy required me to do 6 months of nutrition visits, which I found helpful (I didn't want to do them at first). You also have to meet their BMI requirements. My nutritionist told me that they want to see an effort made and make sure that they aren't putting out the money for the surgery if you are just going to go back to your old habits. Another thing I had to give as part of the prior authorization process is a listing of all the different ways (and diets) I tried to lose weight that was unsuccessful. It was hard because I don't believe in "diets". I have always believe in healthy eating. So, the financial person at my doctors office told me that since I used to go dancing a lot, to include that in my list. The hardest part was waiting for the approval, which took almost 4 weeks.

I think that some people just need to hit "rock bottom" before they will decide to do the surgery. I am having the surgery in a few days and my insurance is paying for everything except my out of pocket costs, which is $300 deductible and $800 coinsurance. I work in the health care industry (in billing and coding) and there are many, many people in my organization that are more obese than me. So obese, that some are now considered disabled. I sometimes look at them and wonder why they don't do the surgery when our insurance covers it and if I met the qualifications for it, they should too. Even my coworker, who is probably pushing 500 pounds, doesn't want to do the surgery and doesn't have any reason other than not wanting to to back it up. His brother is also going through bariatric surgery (he's much bigger), but that hasn't "inspired" him. All I can say is that not everyone believes in the surgery or they just aren't willing to change their ways in order to live a healthier lifestyle.

    Be honest....

I'm scheduled to have my surgery on Monday (02/11/13). I didn't pig out, but I did try to eat a few of my absolute favorite things (like taco truck tacos) before I had to start my pre-surgery diet because I know that I won't be eating them again after surgery.
