    January 28th vsg

I was sleeved 02/11/13 and haven't lost any weight this last week. I think it's because I have been working out every day and during the week, twice a day. Pre-surgery, I was only doing 30 minutes on the treadmill 3 days a week, so I have really been pushing myself to do more than what I would normally do. I'm a little concerned about not losing any weight, but at the same time, all my clothes are getting too big to wear, so I'm assuming that I have lost fat and gained muscle. I'm trying really hard not to be as concerned with the weight loss, but more concerned about the loss of inches. I'm also worried about the loose skin I will have once I reach my goal, which is the reason for increasing my workouts.
  2. I was told that I had to lose 10 pounds before having surgery, and that was during my 6 months of nutrition visits. I was told that a week before surgery, I was to do 3 shakes and a 380 dinner, or 4 shakes and a 230 calorie dinner and not to exceed 870 calories in a day.

    Carb/fat/protein ratio

I have been wondering the same thing. I use the myfitnesspal app, so I just follow that and stay under 1200 calories. I know that since I am only a couple weeks post op, I won't get near 1200, but my nutritionist did tell me that I would be at 1200 calories a day after surgery. I assume that will be once off a restricted diet.

    Day 4

Add some protein. I felt really sick yesterday and then felt like I was getting the shakes, blood sugar was probably too low, I drank a protein drink and felt normal again.

    Sleeve vs lapband

I decided not to do the lap band because of all the adjustment visits that you had to do. After joining this site and reading all the horror stories of people that are now being sleeved because of complications from the band, it just confirmed that I made the right choice.

    Boobs?

My cup size hasn't changed since I was 16. I was a 36C then and only 120 pounds. Now, I'm a 38C and am so hoping that I don't lose the cup size after all the weight loss. I've just decided that if I do, I will get implants, if I don't, I will get a lift. A treat for me for my hard work. =)

    The waiting game

I think it depends on your insurance. After I had my consult with my surgeon, I then met with their financial person and she told me that my insurance requires 6 months of nutrition visits. I did that, they submitted the paperwork and I was scheduled for surgery 2 weeks after the approval came in.

    Coffee

I have been a coffee addict since I was 16, grande mocha or caramel macchiato. My nutritionist had me switch to americanos and I would add milk and sugar. I was very worried that I wouldn't be able to drink it after surgery. I started drinking it on my 4th day after surgery, but I think I'm going to limit myself to only drinking it when I don't have to go into work, regular home brewed coffee. I'm finding that when I buy my americano, I don't drink much of it. I'm too busy trying to make sure I get enough water in throughout the day. I've done fine without the coffee, too.

Does walking get easier after the sleeve?

My ankle muscles would tighten up really bad if I walked too much or too fast on the treadmill. I would also suffer from hip pain from time to time. After surgery, I have neither of those problems anymore.

    Well, it's time

Probably someone cancelled. At least yours got moved up. Mine was moved out 2 hours. I hated waiting that extra time.

    Lemon!

Mmmmm.....I can't wait to be able to eat some cucumbers and tomatoes with chili powder and lime. My instructions just say to avoide spicy foods during the full liquid diet.
  12. I was told not to drive for 2 weeks after surgery (by the hospital, not my doctor) because if I were to get into an accident, I wouldn't want the steering wheel to go into my stomach. I was laughing at the guy in my head and thinking "uh, hello, air bags!" Needless to say, I was out and driving the forth day after surgery. I was a little nervous because I drive a manual car and worried that I might have trouble shifting gears, but I had absolutely no problems at all.

    masturbation or sex safe?

Unless you are screwing a horse or bending over backwards, I think the stitches are safe. LOL
  14. I spent most of the first two days at home sleeping. I went shopping and bought everything that I needed before surgery, so I was all set at home. I was able to take care of myself at home, but thankfully my son is grown and I didn't have to worry about taking care of him.
  15. I was also sleeved on 02/11. I think the hunger every 2 hours is because of the fact that we were only putting liquids in our body. Liquids move faster than solids through the body. I started soft foods today, and let me tell you, everything feels so heavy in my stomach that I can't eat that much at all.

    Loosing my job...

They should still have to offer benefits with Obama's new health care law. You would just have to pay for it. If you can't afford it, check with the state to see what benefits you will qualify for. I would also look into unemployment to see if they will suppliment your income.
  17. My doctor never said that I couldn't swallow whole pills. In fact, I was on the 3 pill regimine for H pylori and while 2 of the pills were gell caps, one was a regular horse pill. I would think that if you aren't allowed to swallow pills whole, then he would have said something.

    Going to miss the most

I thought I wouldn't be able to go without my morning coffee, which had been the case before surgery. I'm finding now that I'm skipping the morning coffee because I needed to concentrate on drinking my morning protein drink, which takes me what seems like forever to drink. I can't fit both in my stomach, so I chose, and I'm doing good without it. I think it's also that I have more energy and don't need to morning caffine jolt to get going. I am going to miss everything that is bad for me to eat, especially taco truck tacos. LOL

    Doubts About Success?

I had doubts, but even my nutritionist told me that after surgery, my stomach won't let me eat too much, which I'm finding out is SO true right now. One of the things that she also told me is that we were told at a very early age to always finish what is on our plate and that comes from previous generations not having enough food. She said it's something that I will have to work on. I'm finding now that she was right. I got upset the other day because i couldn't finish my 6oz of greek yogurt. I was only able to eat half of it. That made me realize that I have to remember everything she taught me about eating and when to stop in order to help prevent over eating.
  20. I told everyone that I work with. They have all been very supportive. The only person in my family that knows I did this is my son. I'm not going to tell anyone else. It's interesting how many people don't understand what this surgery is. One of my friends that I told thought I was saying that I'm going to have lyposuction. LMAO! I'm did this to become a healthier person. I wasn't having any luck with losing weight on my own and knew that if I kept going down the path I was going, I would end up with health problems that I didn't want. My only issues that I have had before surgery was edema in my legs and because of that, was having a hard time doing any excersises. Now that I've had the surgery, the edema has been cut in half. I can't remember when my ankles last were so skinny, and I'm loving it!

    McDonald's Fries, Oh My!

I'm totally missing all fast food and all kinds of different flavors of popcorn, but I'm happy to just smell them and not go in and buy anything. The other day, someone at work made some kettle corn. It smelled delicious, but I wasn't hungry, so I had no desire to go and make some for myself. I just started soft foods and am now finding a new appreciation for foods I normally would rarely eat. Eating slow and chewing well helps me to savor the taste of the foods I can eat. I'm loving my sleeve!

    What am i doing wrong?

You could be gaining muscle mass and losing fat inches. Have you measured yourself lately?

    So gross...

How interesting that different doctors say different things. Tomato soup is on the list that I got from my doctor of what I can have on the full liquid diet. I have always loved tomato soup (wish I could have a grilled cheese sandwich with it though) and have not had any problems with acid after eating it.

    wow

It is sad that it happened to such a young child, but the parents have some fault in that too. Why didn't they teach the child proper nutrition?

    Getting clean

I was given a special soap by the hospital during my EKG visit and was told to use it the night before and the morning of surgery.
