  1. Check out Emily Bites website. She has these lasagna cupcakes that use wonton wrappers. Soooooo good and my niece and nephew said they tasted like pizza. I used 99%fat free turkey instead. The biscuits are a nice idea though and prob about the same calories as 2 wontons
  2. Just made this after getting this great champagne dill mustard from whole foods: 4 oz chicken (I used about 2/3 white, 1/3 dark) left over from a costco rotisserie chicken 1/4 cup 0% Greek yogurt 1/8 cup low fat mayo (can eliminate if want) Tablespoon delic mustard of your choice 1/2 small onion chopped and soaked in cold Water for a few min 1/8 cup Toasted almond slivers (make this so delic) Teaspoon of garlic powder Black pepper and salt to taste Serve with a little fresh arugula bc it's spiciness is so good with the mustard. And serve alone or on Melba toast. I'll make 3-4 meals out of this This would also be great with: A little cider vinegar Fresh herbs (parsley, cilantro, terragon) Raisins A little hot sauce Enjoy and share your fav chicken salad recipes! Anyone have a good healthy curry chicken salad recipe?
  3. I was really struggling with calories and carbs at first. I am five and a half weeks out. I'm doing better now that I am eating protein dense foods. I find if I focus on getting 70+ grams of protein, for me that's between 600-800 cal and 40-50 carbs and 25ish grams of fat. My doc said this is perfect as long as I'm losing...and as long as I feel strong. He said not to worry about the calories as much as worrying about proteins and carbs...you can only eat so much tuna and chicken and yogurt and eggs!
  4. Sure thing Amanda. It's good to spread the word of relatively common problems like acanthosis Nigricans and hidradenitis. I'm not saying you couldn't have blackheads and hidradenitis but if blackheads are the only symptom then it's unlikely. Something I forgot to mention is that with hidradenitis you can get weird thick raises (described as rope like) of the skin. However most people get draining abscesses. I'm sorry you have to deal with this painful and quite frankly...annoying condition!
  5. You look awesome! What a drastic change...and your hair looks fabulous too. Keep up the great work!
  6. Hidradenitis is basically a disorder of your sweat (apocrine) glands. Basic blackheads are unlikely due to this condition as with hidradenitis you have painful swollen abscesses. Another poster said acanthosis Nigricans. This is likely especially if you have or had insulin resistance (diabetes, PCOS). Look up pics. It occurs at folds in the body (neck, under arms, inner thigh). As for prevention if you're dealing with complications of good old fashion chub rub: Vaseline, baby powder, keep the area DRY. I have even put deodorant down there to diminish sweating and always change right after working out.. Haha kind of a fun topic!
  7. Pretty much what you've been doing...with a few more calories! Oh...new jeans! Oh...a party! Oh...nude photos! Congrats!
  8. Looking ahead...did that help at all? Feel free to ask questions and maybe I can at least point you to some good online resources.
  9. I'm in medical school and I can tell you basically what that means but of course your doctor will know much more. Renin is made in your kidneys in response to low blood flow through your kidneys or to too little salt going through your kidneys. Renin in turn stimulates the production of aldosterone (through a semi complicated pathway)...and aldosterone has a big role in how much salt (and therefore water!) your body keeps vs excreted through the kidney and released as urine. If you have hyporenin then your kidneys, for whatever reason, are not making renin, which means you cannot make aldosterone, which means you lose salt and can become very dehydrated (hypovolemic) with low blood pressure and such. Aldosterone is also important in regulating potassium, an electrolyte, in your body. Wonky levels of potassium can lead to heart problems. You can see just how important renin and aldosterone are for your body. What kind of symptoms have you been having and how is your doctor proceeding with treatment? Symptoms that occur commonly with too little aldosterone (which in your case is caused by too little renin being released from your kidneys) are: fatigue, dizzy with standing, racing heart, urinating a lot, craving salt, always hot. I wish you so much luck. It's enough to go through this surgery without more health issues popping up!
  10. I am a month post op and have had a couple ibs issues. My doc said the sleeve doesn't fix ibs but some find it easier to control after surgery bc, as others have said, you're less likely to eat trigger foods. For me it's more about stress though, so I do still have issues.
  11. Your change in skin tone is the most miraculous thing! Know the cause of that?
  12. I just met with my surgeon yesterday and BEGGED him to tell me a calorie and carb goal. I don't know why they are so resistant to setting concrete goals! He recommended 1100 calories and 40 carbs...but that's impossible. Protein makes you so full you can't get 1100 calories without adding carbs and fat! I guess we just have to do trial and error. It's scary to up calories and even carbs but a couple days ago when I upped both (to 850 cal and like 60 carb) I lost 2 pounds after a 2.5 week stall! As for someone posting about gaining weight with exercise...sometimes that happens esp at first. You lose when you stop exercising bc you quickly drop muscle. So stick with the exercise cause it'll bring your sexy back for sure!
  13. I am 4 weeks out and can have one egg, or a mini baybel cheese with a slice of turkey. I can have a couple bites of chicken or fish but here's what I do so I don't get sick (warning it's kind of gross!): I chew and chew and chew without swallowing then when I want to swallow or when the food is sliding down my throat, I 'pull' the food up from my throat and back into my mouth to chew more and make it into a paste. If I get a piece of meat that can't be pulverized enough I *discreetly* spit it into my napkin. Have yet to get sick or anything with this method. Hope this helps!
  14. My doc said no driving until I felt like I could slam down on my breaks without being in pain. And of course once off pain meds. For me this took about 4 days. Def switch to 4 days bc you could even have to stay in the hospital longer than 1 day and miss the movie if two days post op. good luck!
  15. Well y'all I have been kind of negative on this forum (at least in my mind!). I kept thinking I was losing so slowly. But today I went to my month follow up (surgery 1/23) and found out I have lost 20.7% of my excess body weight! I am 5'0. Preop 202 Today 186 Pounds lost 16 Goal weight 125 Pounds originally need to lose 77 (16/77) x 100 = 20.78%! So I encourage all y'all who are frustrated (like i was!) by the pounds on the scale to do a little math and see how much closer we are to goal.
  16. I live off of two things: pure Protein frosty chocolate from GNC (35 G protein and like 4 carbs) and NOW whey protein isolate unflavored. I just discovered the NOW and you can even put it in crystal light and not taste it! Also at 25g high quality protein it's awesome. Ones I tried and didn't like: gnc lean protein (although others swear by it), isopure, muscle milk. unjury Protein Powder is good too but not as good as NOW in my opinion. Just have to try a bunch and see for yourself! Good luck!
  17. Thanks a lot mcwest. Good advice. I threw the cake out an told my Fam they just have to deal with it! Back to protein shakes and yogurt for me today!
  18. You may be feeling some effects of dehydration. It an cause your heart to beat faster and/or harder. It should go away as you get better about hydration and just as you heal! Always check with your doc but I'd bet money you're fine. Good luck!
  19. Aussie, I get it. I didn't post for a berating. We berate ourselves enough. I posted admitting it was a mistake and then asking if anyone else had a similar experience or knew why I didn't even get full. That scared me. I think I felt the need so badly bc my calorie intake has been too low with the workouts I'm doing. I never should have had the cake. So any constructive feedback? The nerve one is interesting and I hadn't thought of that. I will talk to my psychologist too. Thanks for any support.
  20. So I am three weeks out and had a piece of king cake. I'm not proud of it and I know it was a mistake. I should have demanded it removed from the house but I didn't. What I'm most concerned about is that I didn't even feel sick or full! I ate a normal serving size, and based on everyone else I thought I'd get sick but I am fine. This happen to anyone else? Is my sleeve too big? I don't know what to make of my slip or my sleeve's response.
  21. I am 3 wks out and started Zumba last Friday at 2.5 wks. My dr said do what I want after 2, listening to my body and avoiding crunches. I just do the Zumba to the best of my ability and don't twist and turn that much. Good luck!
  22. The fear is a hernia, Intenal or external. Too much increase in intraabdominal pressure can stress on the tummy can cause bulging though areas of the stomach that don't close perfectly, leaving some areas weak. I am a fan of starting slow and listening to your body. The laparoscopic surgery DOES cut through your muscle but so do many other surgeries. Think all those c-section moms don't do abdominal exercises?! Haha but I agree, much better ways to work out abs than crunches. Good luck!
  23. I do the same thing in the microwave. Peeled Granny Smith apples, cinnamon, a little Splenda, a dash of salt and lemon juice. Microwave for 5-6 min stirring halfway. Delic and fast! Can also sprinkle PB2 on it for some peanut flavor
  24. Hi all. I a having a hard time finding a whey protein powder mix that doesn't make me gag. The two brads I tried (unjury and something from gnc) require so much powder that te texted of my food is completely ruined. Even a 1/4 scoop changed the taste and texture drastically. Any suggestions for a whey protein that require less powder for a lot of protein? Thanks so much!
  25. Hi all I was sleeves 1/23/13 and am in puréed stage. I find the only way I can get in all my protein is to mix my protein shake with a banana to balance it out and add some 'real food' taste. I realize this is a good bit of carbs added, esp when I have two shakes in a day. Is this too many carbs? My nut gave me no carb recommendations so asking y'all. I 'eat' about 600 calories a day and average 30g sugar. Thoughts? Thanks!
