Yeah I don't understand why you'd need it. Def ask your surgeon why he does that and if it's standard for him or if he's worried about something specifically with you. Please do let us know what he says bc I am curious now...

Do you have a history of DVTs (blood lots?). Are you unable to take heparin and/or warfarin? Do you have a clotting disorder the predisposes your blood to clotting (Von willebrand disease, lupus phospholipid, antithrombin three deficiency?) These are the reasons I can think that would be recommended to you....otherwise good old low molecular weight heparin given as a shot in your belly twice a day should do the trick!

The 5:2 diet
So on your fasting days with rest periods how long do you go between meals?

I need some supportive words (Diabetes)...
How high of sugars are we talking? What are your fasting and what are numbers a while after your eat? What is your morning number looking like? There is no reason to be starving yourself in an effort to control your sugars. That's what medication is for. If your sugars are running very high (consistently above 200) then insulin may be in store for you at least until you get the surgery and really see some weight loss. Do you exercise? This increases your sensitivity to insulin. Are you particularly stressed? That can elevate levels. Your food alone doesn't purely control your blood sugar levels, so a visit to your Dr. may be in order. And it isn't going to kill you in the next couple months or however long you have until surgery. You are taking this diabetes by the proverbial horns, so hang in there!

Calcium supplement - Tums
Yes I think it's very surgeon dependent. And We will undoubtedly learn more in years to come. So just do what your surgeon says! Voila!

EGD
Shouldn't really delay it. If you are positive for H Pylori (a bacteria) you have to take fourteen days of a couple antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor like nexium. Shouldn't really be that big a deal!

loosing the booty :(
My butt disappeared at first too. But with squats, lunges, running, and overall fitness it's never looked perkier! You'll be fine if you put a little work in!

EGD Recovery Time
Have to have someone to drive you as per most hospital rules, but you should be fine by 2. You may have some bad gas but nothing walking around and gasx can't help.

Calcium supplement - Tums
Sure tums have calcium. But don't use them for that purpose. If for no other reason continuous tums usage can cause reflex heartburn. Can also cause some electrolyte issues. So stick to supplements for calcium. Sure calcium citrate is better but not essential.

The 5:2 diet
I don't think it needs to be on a veterans forum. I am five months out and am struggling with my timing of eating and my choices. I think about food constantly and wonder if having 16 hours a day or an entire day where I don't have to think about it would be a nice change for me. I think IF is a viable option for me and ppl like me. I like this topic and look forward to more info, specifically how y'all decide which days to fast and how exercise is impacted on fast days. Thanks

The 5:2 diet
How do you decide which two days to fast? And how does working out factor in? On days before a hard workout don't fast and fast on the workout days or vice versa? Just wanna get the logistics. Maybe that book one of you recommended on 5/2 would be a good place to start.

Wendy's Chili
I normally don't like posts like this bc it implies everyone should be able to eat the same amount as if we aren't all unique, but I'm a little concerned.... I was able to eat an entire large Wendy's chili today with two packs of crackers (over about half an hour). And I don't feel sick or stuffed. Is this crazy or just one of those days where I am able to eat a bit more for whatever reason (PMS, worked out really hard, skipped breakfast)? I am 5 mo out. Thanks for any thoughts.

I still order a whole meal bc I always want the fish or something off the menu but I feel so wasteful! I need to find some a la carte items!- What can't you eat, that you used to be able to.
I can eat anything and everything, much of which are sliders for me (please explain why tuna is a slider food?!) Gotta say it sucks sometimes. Everyone varies, and you'll have to figure it out as you go...Good luck!- lightweights around 200 pounds
I completely understand not getting down by the scale. I know I am strong and have fit in some size 10 dresses even at 153 so I'm thinking I may not need to get to goal of 123 to be totally happy with my size and health. I know of I were stricter with my food I would prob be around 145 now but I do like an ice cream come and BBQ! Just hope we keep losing!- lightweights around 200 pounds
When were you sleeved?- lightweights around 200 pounds
4'11.5" Highest: 222 Surgery: 208ish Current: 153.6 as of this morning! Sleeves jan 23so pretty slow loss but I am very lenient with my diet and eat 'normally' just exercise a lot to balance it.- winded more easily after surgery
Have you ever had a bad cold or flu and a week or so after you feel better you still find it difficult to climb stairs or carry a bunch of groceries? After an insult to your body it takes some time to build back. It is possible you have a little atelectasis in your lungs (like collapse blebs that can't exchange air), but if you used the incentive spirometer that consistently my bet wouldn't be on that. Anesthesia can also linger in your system, causing fatigue and even taste change, etc. my advice would by to take it easy on yourself and know that losing weight alone will not make working out easier. Your body needs to heal internally and externally first. Good luck and for now just have the boy do all the work!- Help please i dont know what to do anymore. Does anyone else has this problem?
I think everyone answered this beautifully, so I only have one thing to add: ECT. Research it. People who have what is called 'refractory depression' do not respond to antidepressants. Ask your doctor about it. Regarding money, there are locations that offer trials and reduced pricing for this service. ECT is not without risks but if your depression is as bad as it sounds, it may be worth looking into Courtney
