How long till you can swim after surgery

My surgeon said 6 weeks out!
  2. I am 11 days. And have had horrible Time. As I said before my one week checkup they did a CAT scan and found a small tiny Leak. Since then I've been in the hospital twice and have had a pick line put in which hit a nerve and had to be removed three days later. I don't know if this will get better but I certainly hope so. I am down 40lbs since my 2 week diet pre op. anyone else with a leak can share their experience?
  3. Leak - unfortunately I have a leak. Yesterday during my one week checkup the doctor said my drain was draining soup that I was eating. Sent me over to the hospital for a cat-scan and a upper GI which confirmed quote "a small leak and a small bubble of fluid". The surgeon explained how bad "deadly" this could become quickly and put me on a all liquid diet nothing solid including the gummy vitamins. Today we return to the hospital to put a "pick line" in so they can take blood, put food, put medicine etc in. We are very scared and disappointed. This is certainly not what I bargained for especially because I was a PERFECT patient. I think I have a long road ahead.
  4. I was sleeved on the 19th I felt the same way exactly the same way thinking I was putting my family in jeopardy for an elective surgery. I ended up being in the hospital for three full days. Today is my first day that I actually I'm a little hungry I have an appetite. My stomach feels stretched I see my surgeon tomorrow does anyone else after one week feel the stretching in their stomach and if so where?
  5. I was sleeved on the 19th. I was in the hospital for three days. I don't feel hungry but I'm having a difficult time getting all the liquid That my doctor requires. Getting nervous that I will dehydrate. Every time I drink my protein shake my stomach growls and makes a lot of noise for about an hour and then I have BM. Anyone else feeling this way
  6. I was sleeved on the 19th. At this point I am on liquid diet until next Thursday. I had a drainage port put in since the 19th and it will be not be removed until the 28th has anyone else had that?
  7. We I read all these post about the pre-op diet I get nervous because I was put on the 40 grams of carbs - 1500 calories or less per day for two weeks. Which seems different than most. Basically they told me the Atkins Diet Phase I. So I am eating eggs, bacon, beef, pork, chicken etc. So when I see most sleevers are on these diets and my BMI is much higher it really makes me nervous. I have triple checked with my doctors office and they say I am fine. My surgery is on the 19th in a few days and nervous because of the diet is the understatement. I don't want to do anything to mess it up. Good Luck! PS: The headache will stop in a few days.
  8. My surgery schedule for the 19th. I am beyond nervous and excited. I keep thinking I wish it was a year from now and this was all behind me. Good luck to everyone

Got my date - Feb 26!

Hello I am on the 19th and been on my pre-op diet since the 29th. Our doctor requires the Atkins phase one 40 grams of carbs or less. Congratulations to us all. But I will admit I am very nervous.

Pre-op diet and the smell of food

It is interesting to me. My surgeon has me on the Atkins Diet Phase I. I get nervous because I read so many people are on liquid diets and mine is clearly not. I have re-read and re-read my instructions and even called to be sure I am not messing things up since my surgery is on the 19th. Can anyone tell me the 2 week diet their surgeon has them on? And is anyone else on the Atkins Diet for pre-op?

Best wishes and speedy recovery! Keep us posted.
  12. I decided to do my pre-op diet a week early. I did cheat twice but I have amazingly lost 20 lbs. I was last weight was on 11/11/12 and from that weigh in I have lost this amount of weight. But I think it may be more because I destroyed myself during the holidays and January. I am following the phase 1 of the Atkins diet - which was advise from someone on the message board. Met with my surgeon yesterday for the final visit and my surgery is on the 19th and he was extremely please with the progress. He explained about the liver and also said that if you loss weight prior to surgery your skin is still elastic and that helps him during the surgery. Hope that helps.
  13. I as well am thinking as I sit here "OMG - are you crazy for doing this?" Worried is the understatement. Then I think about all the things I have missed out. I am looking forward to the day when I walk into a store and people don't look at you like you are lazy and stupid because you are obese. I am actually far from lazy and certainly am not stupid. We can do this! Good Luck

    No pre-op diet required?

Hello, I seen my surgeon yesterday and I will be having my surgery on the 19th. I started the Atkins diet on January 29th because I read about various opinions on this subject. I felt I should start preparing myself and whatever I could do to help the surgeon make this operation easier. I have lost 20 lbs since the 29th and I have 10 more days to go before the surgery. Best of Luck to you.
