Prior to getting sleeved my only experience with surgery was having my festering rotten gangrene gallbladder removed. Because of the gangrene the surgery was complicated. For gallbladder surgery I couldn't even walk until day three... I was in the hospital for several days and I want to say they didn't even give me food until day four.
When I woke up from VSG surgery I was like: "Seriously? This is all???" I got up and started walking right away and felt like I could have left the hospital on the first day. I didn't even feel pain... just.. "discomfort". Definitely NOT what I was expecting! I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop but it never did... Things just got better and better. My VSG surgery recovery was a cake walk. Glad yours is too!

Good job taking the time to figure that out instead of just blowing a gasket, moaning and complaining and eating until your sick. It sounds like you've got your mind set right to go about this surgery, best of luck to you.

It's nice to hear another person who feels that their life with food will not be "over" after surgery.

Good post. My surgery was in January. So for the holidays i was in need of nice party clothes. The thought of giving the high priced fat stores one more penny was killing me. So - i went to a consignment shop. Shockingly - beautiful clothes for almost nothing. And i only wore what i bought once. Because a few weeks later- i was too small. yay

Boy can I relate to this - I don't know what Jessica London, Roamans, Woman Within, Avenue, Lane Bryant, and OneStopPlus are going to stay in business with all of us working to go into normal sizes. I never thought I would look forward to buying cheap clothes!!!

Haha too funny I am pre-op surgery is June 25th and I felt such a rush of excitement when I paid off my Lane Bryant credit card off and said I will never go there again!!!!! I have enough sizes to get me through my weight loss up until a size 16...can't wait to just walk into any store and buy cute clothes!!!!

Both my parents died a month and two weeks apart 6 years ago. My mom died of heart failure due to morbid obesity. Upon reading that on her death certificate I have been on this journey to have this surgery. The prize date is 7/22/13.
Once I lined up my ducks with the health insurance a year ago, nothing I do mean nothing is stopping me in reaching my goal For this assistance to have a healthier life.
So yes there are those of us that will do 'it' and as the results start to show and we no longer take meds for high blood pressure, or have to spend money on pose pads doing 'it' will have been worth it.
I am truly sorry for the loss of your loved one. Hang in there.
    Continued success on your journey.

I am sorry for your loss. I had sceduled my surgery for June but I found out I had breast cancer and I had to have surgery and radiation, but my oncologist told me that I she was glad I was having surgery because being overweight is a big bc risk, So I resceduled for July, YES YES

Thank you so much for sharing. I am hoping to do the same with my surgery in 5 weeks...oh God 5 weeks! Reading what you have to say will make it easier if I experience anything similar. Keep it up and keep up the blogging. As for engagement ring...maybe a new one when done to compliment your "new" thumb ring is in order! Ha ha

Good for you, the risks are just as high for your health if you don't do anything at all. I am sorry to hear about your loss, but I do look forward to hearing about your weight loss and I'm sure your Uncle would love knowing he affected you in this positive way!

I have wanted surgery since 2004, I only got on the ball and started the process 2012. All little voice was sent packing. I got 25 lbs off and fight everyday to keep it off. But I know I can do this. In between it all have had several other surgeries the hardest being having part of my thyroid removed. If I can get through that I will be fine. I told myself I would never talk or sing again. I am here to tell the voices of worry were sent packing. I took it one day at a time, voiced all concerns to my doctor and all is well.
Hang in there abbygirl. We are all here for you.
    Continued success on your journey.

Thanks Rox...maybe we need to get all the little voices together to bug each other rather than us.

That crap goes thru my head when it's the middle of the night and I can't sleep. Even if no one would say it out loud - the voices in my head would be singing "I told you so" -- we are all our worst critics. I am 6 wks out from surgery too, and as with everything I have my good days and my bad days. Which I guess is to say, we all need to go one day at a time

I hear ya! Sadly, I have first hand experience with your concerns. I had the lapband and it didnt work. After regaining 'ALL and then some' of my lapband weight loss, I heard a few comments about it and got many looks, but I was my own biggest critic. While burying my head in the sand (pretending to ignore my expanding waistline), I couldn't see that I had choices. I believed that I had failed and I let that fear paralyze me for a long time. In hindsight, my fear was the biggest hinderance to my success. I'm so thankful that I found the courage to try again.
