  1. I guess since I'm only one month out I haven't seen the downfalls yet. I used to crave sweets pretty much all day and evening and I don't any longer. Now I did just want a mini snickers bar and ate one. I was hoping it would make me sick so I never wanted another one but that didn't happen. That's the beauty of the sleeve, everything is ok in moderation. You can eat around your sleeve I've heard. At this point, I can't. I'm hoping I never can. I have never been sick, thrown up or had any trouble drinking. I do have to drink a bit slower when the drinks are cold but that's workable. I don't like coffee any more. I loved it before the sleeve. I don't mind the questions before mine I was in here doing the same thing!
  2. The questions that I had were more directed towards the trip to Mexico. I had done the studies in the surgery itself but was way more worried about it being out of the country. I searched all over the US to find a comparable priced Dr but came up with none. I also had questions about the pre op diet. Because of the low BMI I didn't have to be on a pre op diet. I just couldn't gain any weight and had to have protein shakes and then liquids the two days before. I did end up losing a couple of lbs because of that. I was 174 until the day of surgery but like I said, I fluctuated a lot. I dropped .8 today and am now down to 156.8. I love my sleeve! I totally recommend it.
  3. I am one mo th out and would like to have blood work done, just to be sure I'm getting all that I need but I am afraid to tell my PCP about my surgery. I'm afraid he won't be my Dr any more:(
  4. Sleeved on 4/15 and down 13.4
  5. I started out at 171 lbs and it has been just one month. I have lost 13.4lbs in that month. I think that's pretty good. I researched this for a long time, prob like 2 years, and I researched all of the Mexico Drs but I knew a girl that went to the OCC and was sleeved by Dr Ortiz. He came very highly recommended by her so I was leaning toward him the entire time. So I went to their website and showed all the stories and reviews to him. It took awhile to even convince him to read the stories! In the end, he was impressed with the care that I got there. He didn't like that he had to use his vacation to sit around and do very little though, lol. I wasn't the kind That was able to so a lot while there. I was sick afterwards from the anesthesia. So I wasn't any fun!

    Dr. Areil Ortiz

Sorry you had a bad experience...I met three other girls there when I was getting sleeved and we all were very pleased with him and his staff. Yes, it did seem to be more of a clinic, but a very nice one. We all stayed there the night of our surgery. And there was one nurse that was more difficult to understand but she was very kind and accommodating to me. I was sick after the surgery and all night. I personally would recommend him to my friends and family.
  7. My bf was not a fan of this idea until I showed him all of the the re search and studies of success. I just kept making him read it then when I told him that I was going with or without him he took me more seriously. He didn't like the idea if me going to Mexico alone.
  8. It's tough sometimes but I avoid eating with other people for the most part. I have three sisters and they were suspicious but I told them I went on a low carb diet. And since I'm a yo-yo dieter that normally loses weight right before summer they aren't thinking too much about it anymore. At least I don't think so. It has been one month today and I have lost 13.4lbs. I bounced around alot with my weight before this and took diet pills. I am sooo grateful to be off of them!

Happy with my trip to Mexico with OCC!

I had a passport and had no problem at all. I didnt see anyone having problems but I'm not sure who had passports an who didn't.
  10. That's why I chose not to tell Anyone about my sleeve surgery. I don't care to hear everyone's opinions on my "not being fat enough for surgery!"

Happy with my trip to Mexico with OCC!

I had my sleeve done on 4/15 at OCC and I remember Dr Martinez talking with my bf and me before the surgery then I saw him after getting into the OR but I don't remember Dr Ortiz in the OR because of the meds I was very loopy. DR Ortiz did come out and speak with my bf after the surgery was over but I never for to see him and I was very much looking forward to it! Oh well, I loved my experience with the OCC and 100% recommend it. You are true in saying that it is no comparison to a hospital in the US, more of a day spa.

I was there 4/15 and had a wonderful experience. It was everything I hoped it would be and even more. My bf was very skeptical but the staff and Drs even impressed him.
  13. I'm going to kick up the biotin, not sure if that will help or not but its worth a shot. My fingernails are stronger than they used to be.
  14. Ughh. I am really hoping to not lose my hair but I guess no one wants to.
  15. My hair feels very dry and dead. Not really falling out but I am not even three weeks out.
  16. I have only lost about 10 lbs since my surgery on April 15th. I'm feeling a bit discouraged and worried. I feel good and have no problems. I am not experiencing anything negative that others are or have been. I really feel exactly like before the surgery except that I can only eat very little at each meal time and I'm more energetic since I've lost the weight. I should say that I am a low BMI starting out at 171lbs and being 161 today. I did weigh 176 but lost some during the pre-op diet. Please give me some insight.
  17. I can only speak from my personal experience with Dr Ortiz at OCC and it was wonderful. I had the sleeve done on April 15th and feel terrific. I am down roughly 15 lbs and couldn't feel better. I did alot of research and OCC was the only place I felt comfortable with for my surgery. I'm not putting down other Drs so please don't jump me, lol. It's all a personal decision for each of us. I too grew tired of the OCC forum and do not go there any longer. I have seen posts that were later deleted and I disagree with that. Some people are spending their life savings to go to Mexico and get the surgery, I think they deserve to know everything that they possibly can about the service they will be receiving. So good luck to all.
  18. Is anyone from here going to be at the OCC around the 15th?

April 15th at OCC and Dr Ortiz

When I arrived at the airport I was nervous that the driver would forget me or that something was going to go wrong but after waiting for him for about 15 minutes, he texted me and said he'd be there in 5 minutes and where to meet him at. He came as promised then explained going through the border and what was expected from us. He was friendly enough. We had no problems at the border. When getting to the hotel, it was beautiful and very clean with many employees there. They were expecting us when I gave my name. Our room was very nice. There was a balcony that overlooked the pool and hot tubs. The driver told us what time to be in the lobby the next morning. We went to the restaurant where I said I would like broth and they brought me it. It was really good. They knew what I needed. My bf loved the food at the hotel restaurant. It looked delic. We met in the lobby the next morning. There was another girl there with her mom heading to the same place. There was also a couple going to another location to have dental work done. There was small talk in the van. Nervous chatter really. The can pulled into the basement of the OCC. we took the elevator and checked in. There were papers to fill out, just a few. Then they called me back to see the nutritionist. We spoke for a few minutes, gave me a goal weight and talked about the post op diet, back to the waiting room. Then to have tests run, back to the waiting room, then to change and get the IV. They took me to my room and and gave me meds for nausea and to calm me down. They really calmed me down. I remember Dr Martinez coming in and talking to my bf and me and that I be able to talk to Dr Ortiz in the OR. I remember walking into the OR but I don't remember Dr Ortiz or any details from there. I think he was in the room but I can't remember talking to him. The next thing I knew I was waking up back in my room and I was terribly sick. Dry heaves. I was thirsty and my bf and nurse kept telling me that I couldn't have anything to drink yet. I was in and out all day, evening and night. I was miserable with being sick when I was awake but I slept a lot that day and night. The nurses took care of me that day and evening. Easily understood and kind. They did give me drinks and a freezy pop. I remember my bf leaving, he said later that he left at 7. The nurse wanted me to get up and walk. I did because the bathroom was down the hall. I had to go several times. She wanted me to walk more, I tried but was sick. I woke in the middle of the night sometime and went to the bathroom again. I walked the halls because I was feeling just a little better and knew I should be up walking. I didn't see any nurses on the floor that night when I was up and walking. I could have missed them since I was still loopy. My bf and nurses were around bright and early the next day. I was released that morning to go to the hotel. They told me to come back the next day and that I could shower the next day also. I had a difficult time drinking water and couldn't tolerate anything else. I did get some water in but not nearly enough that first day. The drain was still in but didn't really bother me much. The shower felt good. Even though my period wasn't due for 10 days, I got it, ugh. I went back the next morning telling them how I was feeling during the check up. They changed the bandages and checked my blood sugar. It was very low and I was told to Sri k things other than water. A nice lady I. The waiting room gave me an apple juice as I was feeling sick and weak but ok. I slept a lot Again that day. The next day I went back for another check up and to be released, having my drain removed. I felt better in the sense of my blood sugar and being sick and weak but when I would sit to pee I was having cramps and some pain. I told the Dr about it and about getting my period. He said that a lot of women do because of the trauma on our bodies, being a bit dehydrated ad so on. As soon as the drain was removed, I felt sooo much better! I was a new person. And there was no more pain and cramping when I sat to pee. Not sure about all that but I have a theory on it. I rested at the hotel till it was time to check out. The ride to the Airport came to get us. We had no trouble getting across the border again. I forget to mention, the meds were purchased when I was released from the Hosp. They were $155. Then before leaving the last day I purchased more of the pain pills because it was a long day then flights home. I did use one of the pills to help me rest on the plane and I felt ok. I had a wonderful experience through OCC. I am 10 days out. I am back to work now, just today I went back but honestly I could have gone back Monday. I had a question after coming home that I emailed to Dr Miranda and she responded a short time later. I hope I didn't forget anything. I looked for stories like this when I was planning my trip so I hope it helps you make your decision. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
