Confusion re: Post-op Diet and stages
I echo what others have said. Each surgery practice has their own guidelines and they have developed these guidelines over the years based on what works best for their patients, with variations depending on the individual. My particular nutritionist had a different plan for people with a BMI over 50. My plan was a week of liquids (full liquids started day after hospital discharge), 2 weeks of puréed foods. Soft foods, according to my NUT will go from week 3 to week 5. Certain foods like tough meat, rice, bread and Pasta shouldn't be eaten until 3 months post-op. I think most surgeon practices concur with that. Best wishes for surgery and recovery!

Awesome! Keep up the great work!

Condiments.
What a fussy little sleeve you have there! But you're making so much progress so I am envious . I too eat eggs with a little weight watchers mexican style cheese blend and some pureed salsa. Yum!

Syphilis and Gonorrhea ?
Insurance companies are in business to make money, not to provide health care. I feel your pain. But seems there are excellent surgeons in Mexico. Wishing you a smooth surgery and recovery!

3 days post op and miserable
If you aren't able to keep anything down I don't think they will release you. You can try discussing with your surgical team upping your anti-nausea meds or giving you a different type of pain med (narcotics make a lot of people very sick). They may say no but it doesn't hurt to be an assertive patient! I was given less narcotic and more toradol in the hospital so I could keep my fluids down. A scopolamine patch helped me a lot too. But this will pass and in a week I bet you'll feel like a whole new person!

Tell me something.. Is it really so hard to understand what my comparison was? I mean, come on people. I'm not trying to insult people's intelligence outright but this is just ridiculous. READ. All I was saying is that s1ut shaming and victim blaming can happen to anyone regardless of the circumstances and no one deserves that. And as an FYI, in doctor - patient sexual relationships consent is irrelevant. The doctor holds at the very least psychological power over the patient. This is why most medical establishments either fire or discipline physicians who are caught. Don't just take my word for it, take it from my time I worked in the hospital compliance office. You should know all about s1ut shaming being you were in the military. My brother, who is in the marines at first was disgusted every time he heard his fellow soldiers refer to a female marine as a walking mattress, but now he's so used to it, he doesn't bat an eye. For shame.- Dr Luna
I think part of the problem is a lot of people have difficulty understanding the difference between bashing the doctor and supporting the girl who laid the complaint against him.- Dr Luna
It's unfortunate how many people are incapable of critical thinking or reading skills on this forum. As I thought I made perfectly clear before, the only thing my story has in common with the girl in question's is that s1ut shaming can happen to anyone, regardless of how much proof is presented and it is always inappropriate and wrong. It has no place in any type of support group. You all are so sure of what you think happened but none of you seem to be aware your reactions/responses are conditioned. Thoughtfulness is a virtue, though it is quickly disappearing from our society, I'm afraid. I'm sure the doctor had his chance to explain himself. It certainly helped him that the girl retracted her statement. Even in the US doctors are afforded the opportunity because they are so hard to replace. You can be sure Mexico is no different, especially with prevailing machismo attitudes. I would agree about this beating a dead horse, but the next time a patient goes through a similar experience and they seek support, they should know there are thoughtful people out there who will listen and not judge. Such folks are outnumbered unfortunately.- Dr Luna
I posted my story because I am sick of the s1ut shaming that I saw going on here on this forum, where it does NOT belong, not to be patronized. You need to grow up, lady.- Dr Luna
My story is proof that innocent until proven guilty is alive and well in the US. So, unfortunately, is patriarchy. And thanks to patriarchy, proof (in my case, vaginal trauma and contusions) is ignored and maligned by cultural norms and expectations.- Dr Luna
I have been reading these related threads the last few days but felt since I wasn't involved in any way I should refrain from commenting. But since I work in a hospital I have seen instances where doctors had inappropriate relationships with patients. Doesn't always mean sex, flirtation is more common but is NOT appropriate behavior for a physician. It isn't usually reported at the time because the patients involved seemed either ashamed right after the fact and wanted to forget it, or they were enthralled with their doctor and the doctor strung them along for a time hoping to avoid disciplinary action. Regardless of consent, doctors are always in a position of power over patients. That is why any hospital or clinic worth their salt takes disciplinary action against doctors who abuse the doctor-patient relationship. Mine certainly does, and they do investigate the incidents carefully. As for the rampant **** shaming that has gone on in these threads - I am appalled and disgusted. You ladies should be ashamed of yourselves. Another member corroborated her story and other patients alleged similar behavior from this doctor. Even if you don't believe her story or you took her retraction as truth, you stooped to the gutter level by outing her and harassing her. This man wasn't fired and I'm betting based on Dr. Garcia's Facebook message that he will be exonerated, rightly or wrongly. So congratulations to those who have a misguided mission of protecting this doctor's unethical behavior. You may think this story is clear-cut and that this is an obvious instance of a woman scorned, but consider this: I was raped in college and beaten in the course of the attack. I did everything I was supposed to -went to the hospital, had painful and invasive tests, filed a police report, had my day in court. From the day my rapist was arrested I was harassed and **** shamed by his girlfriend, his friends, and the university itself. I was threatened with bodily harm and death. I was called a crazy **** who had buyers remorse. My rapist's defense attorney convinced the jury of this too and he was acquitted. I am not saying my story is similar to the story at hand, but what is similar and deeply troubling is the way women gang up on each other rather than support each other. I grow so tired of it.- helppppp
It's both. You will lose a lot in the beginning because your body goes into a state of ketosis in a low carb diet. This is a good thing. But after a while the weight loss will continue but at a slower pace, as long as you are following the plan and exercising. Don't weigh yourself every day! Daily fluctuations don't tell you how you are really progressing. The best way to weigh yourself is once a week at the exact same time of day, as home scales aren't always accurate. I weigh myself at the gym.- WLS Veterans---Should I Worry, or am I Just Neurotic?
The sensation of liquids moving down your esophagus is due to edema buildup from surgery. Did they give you an incentive spirometer to take home after surgery? If you have one you should practice with it a couple times a day. Deep breathing and time help to clear that up. As for the fever, it's not that high so don't be concerned yet. If it continues for another day or two I would call the doctor's office and let them know. They may want to run blood work.- LEAK.....
Rapid heart rate, fever, fatigue, flank pain, general malaise feeling, etc. - these are some possible symptoms. But as far as I know I don't have a leak, so I can't say from personal experience. What you describe sounds normal to me. However, if you continue to feel unwell I'd call your surgeon's office. Feel better soon!- Complications
The heat of summer may not be helping you retain the water you drink. Get as much liquid in as you can but I suggest you incorporate a cup of full sodium chicken broth every day. More salt may help you retain better. Get well soon!- 7mos Post-Op :)
So gorgeous!! Congratulations on all your success! I hope my weight loss journey is as consistent!- So...apparently I have to chew slowly! Who knew? :)
The further out post op, the more you can eat, but you shouldn't be able to eat what you could before. Eating less and eating smarter is for life with VSG. If you're not vigilant even in maintenance phase your weight will creep back up.- Let's SEE pics!
You all look awesome!- Can someone explain why eating and drinking at the same time is forbidden?
http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg/4458217/The-Pyloric-Valve-How-it-works-with-the-VSG/ ^ This pretty much covers it. VSG is a life changing procedure and it is ultimately up to you whether it succeeds or not. Some people may get lucky and they don't have to make major changes to their diet (other than eating less) to effectively lose the excess weight but most people must sacrifice a litany of things to be successful. It's important not to dwell on those things you give up, however, and instead focus on all the benefits weight loss and improved health provide. Think of it as a cost/benefit analysis.- Thirst
You won't necessarily feel tired or sluggish with dehydration. Everyone is different. Perhaps you are sweating out water more than you realize during the day. Try drinking a soup cup full of full sodium chicken broth once a day. You can improve your water retention that way.- Hummus?
I have about 2 tbsp and eat it with a spoon. Enjoy!- Carbs...UGH!
My nutritionist's advice: Eat as few carbs as you can, stomach as much Protein as you can (my goal is 60-80 grams a day). Drink the Protein shakes if you have to. There are ways to make meat or dairy protein more interesting. I am still on purées but made a pot roast, add a tsp of pesto or some salsa to chicken and eat hummus, tofu, greek yogurt, tuna, eggs, etc to break up the monotony. All these foods are high in protein. The more carbs you consume the harder it will be to lose weight over time. You can introduce cooked vegetables and some fruit (beware of the sugar) for variety but you should only be consuming starches and simple carbs in strict moderation.- I feel weak ;( dry mouth, throwing up.
The cost of changing your flight will not compare to the physical and mental cost you'll face if you don't go to the closest ER immediately. The risks of waiting until you are back home are NOT worth it. Don't mess around with your life. - Dr Luna
