  1. I had surgery on 11/13. I'm 5'2" - Highest Weight: 240lbs, Surgery Weight 227lbs, Current Weight 210lbs. The surgery went well but I felt horrible in the hospital. Once I got home, everything progressed very well. What really messed me up was the liquid you have to drink to do the x-ray to check for leaks the morning after surgery. It was disgusting!! And it made me so sick I couldn't eat or drink anything the rest of the day - that's why I had to stay in the hospital for 2 days rather than 1. They won't let you go home unless you are eating and drinking. I was sore when I got home but every day I got better and stronger. I took the pain meds for a few days because I'm a baby but I didn't take any after the first week. I was out of work for 2 weeks and that was plenty of time - I have a desk job. Just remember: no lifting or bending until your doctor says its OK and DRINK CONSTANTLY!! I have such a hard time getting all the Water I should in a day. It's frustrating not to be able to chug it down like I used to. But I don't regret the surgery at all!! I mean, losing 30lbs in a month!! I've never done that before!

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...

I was sleeved on Nov 13th as well!! I started at 240, lost 13lbs by surgery date and have lost 17lbs more since the surgery. I wish I didn't have a scale because I have been checking my weight every day! Especially this week because I have stopped losing and have just hovered around the same weight for the last couple of days (I have read that this is normal during the 3rd week after surgery - I hope it is!) I am also sick to death of soup!! I want to chew something! LOL

    November buddies where are you?

I am on day 4 of my full liquid diet. The first 2 days were the worst!! I'm not as hungry and I don't have any more headaches. Right now I'm feeling pretty good . I hope I feel like this until my surgery date. I'm getting more and more excited and less nervous.

    November buddies where are you?

I just scheduled my surgery for November 13th in Miami!! I can't wait!! They said I will have to start my Liquid Diet on October 30th and get my Pre-Op evaluations done. I also have to attend an all day Bariatric Class. I can't believe it!! I know these last couple of weeks are going to fly by!

    Insurance

I got busy with work and out of town guest so I haven't had a chance to get on this site recently... I had my appointment on Tuesday and I really didn't get any new information. We went over some of the things that I learned in the first seminar and on this site. Avmed requires a diet with your doctors supervision for 4 consecutive months within the last 2 years, an appointment with a nutritionist, a psych evaluation and a letter from your primary care doctor. I'm still waiting for my records from the weight loss clinic I was going to last year to come in and hopefully that will take care of the diet requirements. After I complete the other appointments then the process should be very quick - within a month I should be getting a date for the surgery. The only thing I forgot to ask was how much the insurance would cover and how much out of pocket the surgery would be for me. I am planning on calling the office this afternoon.

Yes - South Miami Hospital. I had to wait a month for this appointment and I am very excited! I'm hoping to get a lot of questions answered and find out how long the approval process will be. They did tell me that Avmed requires each person to have 4 months of consecutive dieting under a doctors supervision in the last 2 years to cover any kind of Bariatric surgery. I was on a diet with my doctor last year but I'm not sure if it was 4 months consecutively. I have already requested my records, so I guess I will find out - FINGERS CROSSED! If I get any other information you can use, I will pass it on.

I live in Miami too! I am seeing Dr. Rabaza. I'm not sure if it's High or Low but I know it's not the PPO.

I have Avmed insurance. My first appointment with the surgeon is today but his office said they have worked with Avmed many times and it is one of the easier insurance plans to deal with.

    First Appointment with Surgeon

I have my first appointment with the surgeon today. My surgeon is Dr. Rabaza - South Miami Hospital. I am a little nervous and I hope I ask all the right questions and get all the right answers! I do want to have the vertical sleeve surgery - I think that is the best option. Just like you I "only" have a 40 BMI (5'2", 240lbs) and no comorbidies. Hopefully I will be able to have my surgery soon. I would like to be healed up (and a little thinner) in time for my sons wedding, June 1st. I wish you the best of luck!!
