  1. I assume they will take blood to ensure they have my type on hand just in case, God-forbid, there be a situation that occurs during/after the surgery that requires a transfusion. I've already had a chest x-ray and EKG. What other testing did y'all have to have done in the days before your surgery at your *final* pre-op appt?
  2. Thanks all! All the tests i had to do for insurance approval was an EKG, blood work, and a chest X-ray. I figured I'd have to do those suing the pre-op, as well. Hopefully no EDG.
  3. Hi there, I'm not a Dr. Kim patient, but in a Dr. Nick patient. I just wanted to tell ya not to hesitate to call Dr. Kim's office. The staff is really nice and are there to support you. I had the same question about any info booklet so I called and they mailed it to me. Congrats on your surgery. Forest Park is a nice hospital.
  4. Aside from a food scale and measuring cups, have y'all seen any other tools that might be useful post-op? Today the Hubs and I went shopping and I was amazed to see how much a measuring cup of 1/4 cup of food is. Crazy! I'm planning to get a magic bullet a couple of weeks after surgery. I've heard mixed reviews, though so I'm not completely sold. Have any experience with those?
  5. Found some at World Market really cheap! Thanks for the idea

    So Hurtful

Unfortunately, sometimes you have to put your foot down and stand firm. My mother isn't on board with the idea, but I told her how much it is going to help me. While she still isn't completely ok with it (and truthfully, I don't think she ever will be), she is making arrangements to come help take care of my 2 year old son for 6 to 8 weeks after I'm sleeved. Your mom may have issues with it, but I think she will come around, especially when she realizes she had no choice. Hope things get better!
  7. Jergens makes a skin firming lotion, as well. You can get it at just about any store for around $5.00

    Protein powders

Darn those Slim-Fast people for putting iodine in their product!
  9. Where did you buy the demitasse spoon & fork set at, if you don't mind my asking? I saw one somewhere before and didn't save the link. Googling it just brings up the spoon/saucer combo.

    skin elasticity?

Not sure if it is the kind of milk bth he is talking about or not, but you can buy milk bath in the bath section of Walmart and Target, next to like the bath beads and whatnot, I have some. It's powdered and in a blue sealable bag. It makes your skin nice and soft.

    Protein powders

You can also order samples of Matrix (mint cookie, cookies and cream, etc) from MyBariatricPantry.com. If you have any food allergies then you may want to be careful about which ones you buy, as most powders are processed on the same equipments as some of the top food allergens.

    Hot crap dip!

Laughed so hard at this thread title. None for me, thanks, as I'm allergic to shellfish, but thanks for the giggle at the hot CRAP.
  13. What kind of broths did you drink post-op? That's kind of a dumb question, I know. Just wondering if you cracked open cans/containers of organic low-sodium chicken/beef/veggie broth, poured it into mugs, nuked and then drank, or if we're supposed to go the bouillon route and mixed the powdered stuff with warm/hot Water. I've got three weeks of a post-op liquid diet - Clear Liquids - so I'm trying to get a little creative here. Err, as creative as one can get with broth.
  14. Anxiously awaiting April 8th. Hurry up!

  15. Haha, ok, that is great news! I'm still pre-op (scheduled for April 8th) and was freaking out for a minute.
  16. Holy crap! You got 56 incisions? Please tell me that is a typo. hehe

    Ok Women?

Please don't be scared! The worst part for me was recovering from the 32+ hrs of back labor. The csection pain was slim to none.

    tell me why?

My surgeon requires that I can have nothing thicker than milk for the first three weeks after surgery.
  21. Hey all, I'm just curious to see what everyone is doing to get prepared for the surgery. So far all I've done is arrange childcare for my 2 year old son. My mother is coming in from out of state to help me take care of him during the daytime while my husband is at work for the first six weeks after surgery. Oh, and I've ordered Protein Powder samples to get myself aquainted with the good flavors, as well as to know what to buy for my pre-op diet that starts on March 25th. Other things I need to do: - Go grocery shopping a day or two before surgery to make sure my family has food and that I have what I'll need post-op - Sample all the Protein powders trial-sizes I've bought and settled on a couple of flavors both for my pre & post-op diets - Schedule my pre-op appt w/ the hospital I'm being sleeved at I'm still thinking the rest of this through as far as things I need to do. What about y'all? Any ideas on to-do's before surgery?
