  1. Yes. I bought a box about 6 weeks ago and I've not been able to bring myself to eat them.

    Today I ate one.

It was good and i was fine eating it unless I thought about it. When I thought about it, I gagged. It's the perfect snack with great stats but it's freaking ostrich!

    EEWWWWW!!!

I'd rather eat my dirty gym socks.

    Now who who's judging who missy??? :P :P :P

  2. I couldn't agree more! This lady is a b***h in a major way! She has lots of options other than giving out nasty notes. She could hand out little party treats such as plastic spider rings or something of the like. She just wants to shame the kids and parents.

    Neither will help.

I have seen a copy of what she is intending to hand out. She is chicken. If she feels that strongly, she would have signed the note and put her address on it.

Some people are just something else!

As for me, I have 300 treat bags ready to pass out! I only hand out the good stuff! Snickers, Baby Ruth, skittles, Starbursts and Nestle Crunch!

    Love the trick or treaters!

  3. Yes, refined sugars and simple carbs are the devil in disguise! If you can detox yourself from them it will help a great deal. Try replacing some of them with maybe fruit, I love honey crisp apples, they are sweet, and so full of Fiber that it fill you up. I will dip them in yogurt. Also, for crunchy, try roasted edamame. They are full of Protein and give you a sense of being full.

Good luck, you can do it!

  4. But the real question really is if a tree falls and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

(Sorry attempt at humor to lighten the mood...)

According to the GICO commercial, yes. :D :D

And it needs help getting up!

  5. Looked at your profile and you were sleeved in Jan of this year? You are far enough out that you shouldn't have a problem but I would highly recommend you try something small at home first such as a few sips of wine.

Since you are just turning 21 I am assuming you don't have much alcohol experience? It will likely hit you fast you don't know how your body will react.

Stay away from anything with lots of sugars such as premixed margaritas and the likes, they may go right through you and that could be embarrassing.

Happy 21st! Be safe and you know the drill about drinking and driving.

Sorry, it's the mom in me. Can't help it.

  6. I told all my family and friends before the surgery. No negative reactions. Now I have to tell everyone else because I would never be able to remember who knows, and who doesn't. Best for me to just tell everyone.

Besides, it's kinda funny seeing the look on people's faces when I tell them I had weight loss surgery. Sometimes it's like I've told them I had a sex change!

On my soapbox here: we are on the leading edge of VSG surgery. We can help remove the stigma of weight loss surgery by being open about our positive experiences. Maybe that makes it easier for the next person. Maybe it helps more companies add the option to their insurance policies.

I know a lot of people get on their soapboxes about this subject. I'm so glad you are doing what is best for you.

My personal opinion is that most people know about WLS. You can't watch TV or listen to the radio and not know about. I just don't feel like I need to be the poster child for it.

If there is a stigma, I believe it is self imposed. I am not ashamed in the least that I have taken this positive step in my life. Some people just don't talk about medical issues, of any sort. I'm one of them.

Like I said before, everyone's path is different and I surely respect whatever path someone takes.

I'm just very proud of us all for taking this step. I know in my heart it will go down as one of the best things I could have ever done for myself.

  7. I am a very private person and my medical information is not public domain.

When people ask me how much weight I have lost I say "a bunch." When they ask me what I am doing I say "I'm working really hard." Both are absolute truth. It allows me a polite reply and also a message that this is not something up for discussion.

I was a yoyo Dieter for years so I have been doing this every year when I lost 30 pounds starting every January and gained 25-35 by each December.

Good luck to you, life post sleeve is amazing!

For me, my weight is not what I am about so it's not a topic I discuss.

  8. I could be wrong but I think RJ quoted you when she meant to quote the OP :)

    Well that explains things! :)

    It's all good. :)

Have to say though, don't think the OP was trying to be a know it all, it was just things she discussed with her Dr. and was sharing them and trying to take a look herself and her habits. There is so much conflicting information on this forum and everywhere we look.

Sometimes we just need to get out some of the thoughts all pent up in our head. I think thats all she was trying to do.

Let's give her some support, because it IS all good! :)

  9. Handle it the way that works best for you. To tell or not to tell is as personal as it gets. If and when you are ready to discuss it with others then do, otherwise do what works for you. Having this surgery is not the easy way out as some will say so you will need all the strength you can muster so do not feel like you owe anyone anything up to and including having to explain your actions or your personal medical history. You can't "un tell" once you have.

For me personally, it is just really a personal thing for me. My husband and one of our sons know and the son only knows because he needed to move back in for a short time when I was just about to have my surgery. I have never discussed my medical procedures or history with anyone, it's just who I am.

And before people jump in with the "I'm not ashamed" thing, neither am I and I don't think most are. For some people, its just personal.

It's not a lie if you choose to keep it private and most of us don't feel like we have to be a walking advertisement for WLS.

While we may all be on the same weight loss journey, everyone's path is different.

Good luck to you however you choose, it's your journey and you should do the way that works for you. If there is one time in your life to put yourself first, this is it.

  10. Why bother being on the forum in the first place if you have it all figured out....I admire the fact that you do as you would be the only one I know of that does...Mr it is an everyday learning experience and I read and studied this program for 2 years...Personally I find the forum valuable in that you get to read how others are handling all the things that you have already figured out....Amazing!!!!!

    :) :) :) :) :)

  11. For starters, I have never believed everything I read on here. Don't think anyone should.

Secondly, It seems like everyone has different instructions from their Surgeons and NUTS. After all, we trusted them enough to remove 80% of our stomach so why would we NOT do as they instruct?

That said, I believe the different surgeons instructions come from this; first, medical fact, second, medical opinion, third, serving the lowest common denominator, and lastly, covering their asses.

Caffeine is fine? No caffeine ever again? Straws ok? No straws ever? Alcohol ok? No alcohol ever? Carbonation ok? No carbonation ever? I think lots of surgeons say these things because lets face it, we didn't get morbidly obese doing all the right things so many think that there is no wiggle room in their patients and they don't want someone suing them because they used a straw and gained all the weight back and we not warned about it.

I do follow my surgeon's and NUT's instructions but I also think they use a common sense approach. My only no no according to them is carbonation. I can live with that. Had I been instructed to never have caffeine, alcohol, use a straw, or consume a carbohydrate I would not have had this surgery. I got this surgery to live a long, healthy and normal life not spend the rest of it being afraid every time I put something in my mouth.

I'm sure there are some WLS patient who need that strict set of rules but I think for the most part, we can all use our common sense along with our medical advice and make the right decisions that work for us.

  12. Hang in there. It will get better.

    I promise.

The first couple months after are hard but you will be losing weight so it will help. You will be able to eat anything after a while, but it will always be important to get the Protein first.

It will be totally worth it. Really.
