Oatmeal is probably not the first choice at this point. Try going for bigger Protein as your first food. Protein is what helps you feel full. As far as dense protein. That is no joke. I was on liquids for 3 weeks then able to move on to soft foods like canned or baked fish, canned chicken and shaved deli type meats. The canned fish and chicken are great for protein for the amount you can eat and goes down easily. Tried the shaved turkey the other day and oh my, it was different. I could only do about an oz over 30 minutes and felt it alot. If your goal is to get 60-80 grams of protein a day, it's hard to do with your main food only having 7 grams. Maybe greek yogurt? It has 14-18 grams of protein per serving, just watch and make sure there are no more than about 14 grams of sugar. Good luck, you can do it! -

15 days post op and freezing!
newat52 replied to rachel marie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jeez, we must all be a sight all bundled up! Makes me giggle thinking about it! -
I think it depends on the individual. I am 4 weeks out tomorrow and mine are nearly healed. 2 still have small scabs but my big one is completely healed. I also have been told protein promotes faster healing. I have been a champ at getting in my protein so hopefully that has helped. Typically, they say 6 weeks most folks are completely healed. Hope that helps.

15 days post op and freezing!
newat52 replied to rachel marie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, it started in the hospital directly after surgery but I think it was fear and the drugs. They put lots of blankets on me then I was fine as long as I stayed bundled up. It really got worse after I got home. Just couldn't get warm enough but truly I think the heat from the heated throw on my tummy area helped with the pain. So it was good. It's 65 degrees here and I am wrapped up in my throw on medium. My pup loves it too! At night we are like peas and carrots under that throw! -

I am 4 weeks out tomorrow and I did 3 weeks of liquids so just started soft foods last Thursday. Introducing new foods slowly. A Protein shake in the morning, 3 teeny, tiny meals and shake before bed. Getting about 600 or so calories per day most of the calories still coming from the shakes. April will be exciting for me as I progress but I a have also named April as "Be kind to my sleeve month" I figure if I am kind to it, it will be kind to me in the future so the point is: what's the hurry to eat all the things I used to? I know I should be able to eat most anything in due time, of course just not a lot of it but for now slow and easy wins with race. Have not had any adverse reactions to the foods or amounts but I measure carefully and if my 30 minute timer goes off before I finish, I stop. Yesterday was my first try at shaved deli turkey per my diet but after 30 minutes I was only half way through my quarter cup so I stopped. It felt heavier so I think I'll wait another week before I try it again. Just because it's on my doctors list of approval, my new tiny tummy has the final word so I best listen to it and not rush things. -

Surgery day!

Good luck! Speedy recovery! -
Insurance is crazy. If the hospitals, healthcare providers and insurance companies would work together instead of trying to screw each other, everyone would benefit. I am in the Dallas area and self pay. My surgeon charges $12,200 for the procedure, covers 2 nights in hospital, pre op labs, OR and all follow ups. Although, I'm sure that if it was insurance it would be much more.

For pudding, I use 2 cups of skim milk. One small package of sugar free pudding. I the milk and 2 scoops of Unjury unflavored protein powder. milk and protein powder together. Add the pudding. Divide into 4 servings. Each serving will be 14 grams of protein and about 50 calories. The jello is a bit trickier. You have to boil the water and add the jello. dissolve the jello well. Add 3/4 cup cold water. You can't add the protein (2 scoops) until the water is below 140 degrees. mix it really well. You could blend it. Makes 4 servings. Each scoop of protein powder is 20 grams so using 2 you get 40 grams and 10 per serving. The protein makes is look a bit milky but it doesnt change the taste! My favorite is sugarfree black cherry. Love that. Also tried the lime but was not a fan.

I use the Unjury unflavored in sugarfree jello and surgarfree pudding. Mixes well and don't really change the flavor.

They are. Although someone said Sas has them too. They are 160 cal. 30 grams of protein and 1 sugar. I think 3 carbs. I enjoy one before bed every night. Kind of like drinking chocolate milk. They are yummy!

With all due respect, most obese know that there is weight loss surgery. Unless you are living under a rock, most people know about it through their doctors, families and friends. The question, is are they ready? It's not a magic bullet. How would you have felt if someone had come up to you and starting talking about it before you were ready? I would have felt humiliated and mortified as would most people. Yes, as much as this is a gift for us and and we are thankful for it, we didn't do it until we were ready to make the life changes. While intentions are good, I would think it would be the same as someone saying how much better your life would be if you just lost weight. How did that work for you when someone said that? Sometimes as much as we want to shout it, folks really have to come to the conclusion by themselves.

Starts with tomatoes and loads of veggies! Ugh...need to spend the day in the kitchen....it's my therapy! Oh, yeah, boiling a chicken is sooo good and soooo healthy! You know exactly what you are getting....So my original point was supposed to be, yes! Take Laura's advice! -
Help! I don't know what kind of protein drinks to drink for pre-op liquid diet
newat52 replied to latina1974's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Try the Isopure Protein drinks. They are like G2 or poweraide zero. Considered Clear liquids but they pack 2 oz of protein per oz! Several flavors to choose from, I personally liked the grape. Also nectar has several flavors, very light tasting, like crystal light. 24 grams of protein and you can mix them as light as you like. For Protein shakes the premier shakes from costco and Sams are very good. 160 calories and 30 grams of protein and only 1 gram of sugar. Good luck!
