Not getting enough protein or liquids in
newat52 replied to jandrfprever32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first weeks post op sipping is a full time job. It really needs to be in your every thought. Get some Isopure or nectar. It takes care of your liquid and Protein at once. If you can get one bottle of that down per day it's 40 grams of protein and 20 oz of liquid. I don't know of a better combo to get both in. Start from the time you get up. Sip, sip sip. You will start to feel so much better when you can more liquids and protein. Best of luck, the first weeks are hard but it's so worth it! -
When do we stop losing weight
newat52 replied to minnie78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 3 months out next week and I have lost 33 pounds since surgery. I am dancing on the tables! I know I am not losing as fast as other people but I am losing. Since about 6 weeks I lose 4 or 5 pounds then sit for a while. Then repeat. I am losing inches though when the scale isn't moving. I am learning to listen to my body and I feel fantastic. It may take a while to get to goal and that's OK with me. I eat a balanced diet and I love it! I just have not eaten Pasta, bread, processed carbs and sugar. I do not miss it in the least and therefore I will avoid it for the time being. We just have to be patient! You are doing great, keep up the good work! -
Trace Amounts of Blood When Throwing Up
newat52 replied to AmandaRaeLeo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yikes! Glad the Doc got back. Feel better soon. Just curious, what did you eat? -
Disagree totally. Had the worst constipation of my entire life post op. Was on liquid for 3 weeks. Protein = really, really solid poop. Top it off with no Fiber and you have real and severe issues. Lots of people have soft and runny the first week out getting all the meds out. I had no bowel movement for the first week at all. Thats when the trouble started.

Sugar free isopure ready to drink review!
newat52 replied to karpouzian's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I like the unjury protein powder. I use the unflavored and chocolate and make protein spiked sugarfree pudding. You will get mixed reviews on the chicken broth though. While the taste is fine, I didn't like that fact that it can't be heated past 140 without it clumping. It's too cold for me. -
Sugar free isopure ready to drink review!
newat52 replied to karpouzian's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I did the grape. It took a bit to get the taste down but I just decided I wasn't going to get a better Protein bang for my buck. I have to say I was exceeding my protein requirements within a week and I really feel like I healed fast because of it. It is said the more protein you can get in the early weeks post op the less severe your hair loss can be. The bottom line for me was the first few weeks on just liquids was not fun so may as well just suck it up and get the best I can! Good luck to you! -
Try adding some miralax to your shakes or a small amount of milk of magnesia. Constipation is a real and painful issue for a lot of people post op so watch closely then as well.

The day has come and panic attacks....

Good luck! Will keep you in my thoughts. Pre op is the scariest. No regrets here except that wish I had done it earlier! -
Feel Sick After Surgery
newat52 replied to losingit2013's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was lucky and did not have any. -
That is exactly what I do. I get on the computer or play Work with Friends or even come on here. It distracts me and before I know it, its time to take another bite.

Does risk of leak ever go away?
newat52 replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I may be wrong but I believe once you are completely healed in 6-8 weeks the risk of leak goes to zero because the healing happens around your staples. -
I've got a new TOTALLY SEXY morning routine that you won't want to miss.
newat52 replied to LipstickLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take my b12 first then a few minutes later my pepcid. The rest I take throughout the day so there is not so much stuff rumbling around in my tummy. -
Why are so many people disappointed when they "only lose" this and that much weight?
newat52 replied to Sweetcarol238's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
LMAO!! Well, yeah, that too! -
Yep. It was bad. Really bad. Didn't realize Protein made lots of poop, even the liquid protein! Ugh, it was awful and one of the most painful things I can recall. Get the Milk of Magnesia. I still put about a teaspoon of Miralax in my morning shake and take the childen's Fiber gummies. Sounds like you may be impacted? I sure hope not. Good luck! It does get better though.

what happens if you don't get enough protein in?
newat52 replied to oldskoolsooz's topic in Food and Nutrition
Yes, Ideally we want to get our Protein from food sources but it may take a long time. I am 12 weeks out tomorrow and still have a Protein shake in the morning. It would be hard to get my protein in otherwise. I also still make my protein spiked pudding for days when I fall short. I am of the opinion that it's more important to get the protein then to be overly concerned on how it comes. I think it may take a few more months to get all my protein from food. That's ok with me. I have not had issues with eating anything as of yet but I have not even tried breads, Pasta, rice and sugar. I follow the rules of protein first, veggies/fruits second and well, have not got to the third, just no room. Good luck! -

Whats the deal with soup and Mashed Potatoes following surgery?
newat52 replied to Heather Meyer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really didn't either. About 10 or so days out, I started having 3 meals a day. Not because I was hungry but to start getting accustomed to eating. I had no appetite whatsoever. I started with tomato soup, about 1/8 a cup at a time. Took about 30 minutes to do it. Was really hard the first week I did it. It started getting better just before I was 3 weeks out. At 3 weeks I could start to have pudding and yogurt so if you are cleared for it try Protein spiked pudding. I take a small package of sugarfree pudding and about 10 oz of skim milk. I add a scoop of chocolate or unflavored Protein powder and blend in for a few seconds in a blender. Then I add the sugarfree pudding and blend it for about 30 seconds. I poured it into to bowls and chilled it. At first it was just a few bites and it goes down easy. Then I just worked up to the whole thing. Based on two servings it's about 170 calories, 16 grams of protein. I'm telling you, once I started getting some of that in me, it was like night and day with my energy and in turn helped my appetite. When I first started making it I would put in 2 scoops scoop, it increased the calories by about 50 and the protein to about 25 grams of protein. Give it a try and just take it slow, it really helps. Turns out for me, it was a good thing because I have not experienced hunger till about 3 weeks ago. But trying to get back into a normal routine really made a difference. Let me know how it goes, because you know I'll rag you about it. :) Tough love sweetie! -

Successful weight loss using portion control ?
newat52 replied to Kapu's topic in Food and Nutrition
I am not on limited carbs. I am also 12 weeks and 33 pounds. My surgeon and NUT believe in balanced. I am happy with this. I do so much better just eating balanced. I of course eat Protein first, veggies then carbs. I feel normal and not like I am dieting. I get about 800 or so calories a day and I would say about 50 or so carbs, give or take. Aim for 70-80 grams of protein per day. Most of my carbs come in the morning by way of a Protein shake. I make mine with about 1/2 a banana, a couple of frozen strawberries, 6 oz of skim milk and a scoop of protein. lunch and dinner are protein and either veggie or a portion of fruit. There is not room for other types of carbs. While my diet is mostly low carb, its not strictly limited, there just is not room in my limited real estate tummy and I am loving this. I eat normal food now and make the best choices I can. Yesterday for our Memorial day BBQ I tried steak for the first time. It was sooooo good. Had about 1 and 1/2 oz of a wonderful filet and just took my time, chewed well and enjoyed it. -
Prom / wedding dress challenge
newat52 replied to missyjoy2078's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny this comes subject comes up. Have been pondering for several years on what to do with my wedding gown. Have two grown boys. A few months ago I decided to get into it once more then donate it. It's from 1979 I will be 12 weeks out tomorrow. Guessing about 15-20 pounds more before it should fit. It's not doing any good sitting for 33 years and it's probably rotting away. -
Eating around other people
newat52 replied to junebug38's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 12 weeks out and have been out several times with people. Like most of the above posts said, no one really notices what you are or are not eating. We are usually to busy talking and catching up.Portions are so huge in restaurants these days, asking for a to go box is pretty much the norm. -
Something *THIS* fat girl never thought she would ask...
newat52 replied to LipstickLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lol! If I had a nickel before every time I wish I said I could eat more I'd have well, not even a nickel. Now, I'd have at least enough for a cheap pedi. Really though, if you can stomach the Isopure, that does't sit as heavy in the stomach as the milk based shakes. If you can get even half of one per day that's an extra 20 grams of Protein. I was on only liquids for 3 weeks so yogurt and pudding were off limits for me. At 3 weeks I did start making spike pudding and that helped with the calories and protein. You are rocking it my friend, keep it up! Dang on the straw though, thought I was gonna get to yell at you and get all judgey. Now I gotta go find someone else to pick on. -
The whole secret menu or hidden menu is to create buzz via social media. It just marketing, pure and simple. Of course, sometimes the person taking your order is the last to know about it.

Sleeved May 9...depressed, regretting having they surgery!
newat52 replied to princesx01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry you are having a time of it. As people said above, try the Isopure. Best source of Protein. I second the grape. I lived on it for several weeks. It will get better. Hang in there.
