My thoughts going into this were that I'd rather deal with complications from this surgery rather than a heart surgery 10 years from now.

I'm scheduled for March 14th! I'm so excited but overwhelmed with all that had to be done. However, I'm ready to begin this journey!!

Justin I don't know if you've heard of Mio but you add it to Water and there's nothing in the Mio that hurts us just makes drinking water yummy! I believe there's a Mio that tastes like sweet tea! My friend buys it for her son...just a thought!!

This is what I call a "Red Flag" post/question... And this is absolutely no reflection on you Shakur, and let me explain why:
    1) If your surgeon (or the nutritionist) didn't take the time to explain why the Protein shakes were an important part of the pre-op plan, then you need to find one (or a program) that puts more emphasis on patient education. The better educated you are, the better outcomes (both safety & weight loss) you will most likely have.
    2) If your surgeon did explain, and you chose to seek the advice of total strangers in hopes that you will get an answer that you'd rather hear than the advice your surgeon gave you, then that might mean your program/surgeon hasn't done enough to earn your trust or help provide you the support psychologically to be in the right place for this major change.
You're a stunning woman and would love to see you happy & healthy first and foremost. You deserve nothing less than the very best!

My pre op diet is basically all Protein Shakes. It's 4 shakes a day, a small meal of 4oz lean Protein and 1 veggie serving, and 2 servings of fruit. I'm on day 4 today and it's finally starting to get easier. My doctor explained it's to shrink the fat on my liver. If a patient doesn't stick to the diet and shrink the fat, he'll close you up and won't finish the operation For that reason alone, I'm sticking to it to a T!! After all of this, I'd hate to not have my surgery done! I have pretty strong will power, so although the pre op diet is hard, I know I can do it!!

Yes, they're important. Protein will be the cornerstone of your post-op diet, so it's good to get used to it. Also, if you're given a pre-op diet that is high Protein and low carb, it's for a reason. In order to get to your stomach, your liver must be retracted out of the way. A fatty liver is easily damaged and many surgeons do not want to take the risk of doing a laproscopic surgery if they can't safely move your liver. While some (usually lower BMI) patients are not required to undergo a pre-surgery diet, if you are given one, stick to it as best you can.
For me, the very idea that I could be responsible for my own surgery not proceeding was just too embarrassing to comprehend. If I couldn't do it for two weeks, how could I possibly stick with it the rest of my life?

Hey guys...thought i would give you a little input. Just sleeved two weeks ago. First the pillow. I did like having one on the ride home. Dont think i really needed it, but made me feel better in the car on an hour ride home. I just put it in the car i would riding home in.. Not for the hospital. As far as Protein Drinks, do not buy up a large amount of one kind. I was not picky preop so bought two large containers of a certain powder and used it during the preop phase and into post surgery. I found out that i needed a change up during the day. So having something like a sports drink like Isopure or blitz, a powder to mix in milk if you need some xtra carbs, a premixed one like pure, Unjury chicken and one lactose free like muscle milk is good...just a few of each so you can change it up is best because you truly do not know what will work best for you post op. You an easily sink a wad of cash into something that will not be used so go easy. Two to three weeks goes quickly and you will move to food so just get a small variety and get more later if required. As far as meds, i have a good 100 bucks or more worth of unneeded meds! I was given a prescription for prilosec but wanted to have others on hand... Gasx, another antiacid, liquid tylenol, and an assortment of options for Constipation and diarrhea. They ALL are sitting unused, unneeded. I way over planned! I have Jello and pudding boxes on the shelf and 2 boxes of popsicles in the freezer. I took way too much to the hospital.... Wore the hospital gown while there... Easier to use restroom with no pants to worry with..remember..you will have an iv and a roller pole to take along with you..easier to get in and out of bed, and easier to give the nurses and dr access to your tummy to check incisions and to give your blood thinner shots. I did use my slippers, my tooth brush and my face lotion and hair brush. So long story short... KISS strategy works best... Keep it simple stupid! Just do not overdo it! You will be home then out and about so fast you will not know what hit you! Save your money for new clothes! This is one time when less is best! Good luck!

Ummm... If "get fit, be creative, make sure you're doing it as much as possible, and have fun" requires a seminar, I weep for the state of masculinity!
Normally I'd make a flity remark about private lessons available for select women (so you can pass the knowledge on to the men in your life, of course -- I only aim to serve others! ) but... This is a PG forum and I'm egotistical-sounding enough, already!
