  1. I think the pre op diet is the worst part of the process. I am Type 2 and was able to stay on the diet without any problems. If you start getting low sugars, then take a glucose tablet and let your surgeons office known. I wish you well....I am no longer on insulin and my metformin in is half of what it was. It's all worth it.

    March 11, 2013

I am at 165, total loss of 94 lbs. I really want to lose at least 20 more but I am very happy and not having any issues with maintaining. I am not doing a lot of exercise- just walking. I can eat a bigger variety of food, but still have restriction when it comes to dense food- chicken, beef, etc. I have to watch my habitual snacking- chips and crackers go down much too easy. I am able to eat a little pasta, but sugar is not part of my life anymore and I don't really miss it- probably because I know I will have bad side affects. I can't say I wish I had done this sooner, because I think it was the right time for me- but I will never regret the surgery- my life is changed for the better. Ann

    Valentine's Challenge

    164. Lost a pound so here is hoping the losses continue.
  8. Height- 5'. Highest weight 259, now 165. Surgery 3/11/13. I am in a 12-14 pants and an XL top. For the first time since my 20's, I was able to buy petite pants. I am 67 yrs old and loving this new me!! I would like to get to 130 but my one yr anniversary is coming fast- might not lose much more. Lots of flab in stomach and under arms but I probably won't look at surgery- trying to exercise it off.

    Christmas - New Year Challenge

I need to get more serious. I can't stay under 165 and I know it's because I am getting lazy and not sticking with protein first. Today I am 166 - no progress and actually an increase.

    Christmas - New Year Challenge

Hi everyone! My name is Ann, I am 67 yrs old. I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren, 15, 13, and11. I live in SE Michigan about 50 miles west of Detroit. I retired from Head Start, a federally funded Preschool program in July of 2012. At that time I was at my highest weight, 259 and had begun having pulmonary issues. I had to use oxygen at night and carry it with me whenever I had to walk more than 1000 feet, which was most of the time unless I was home. I have a history of AFib so I didn't think I was a candidate for bypass plus it scared me. However, the oxygen thing was the final straw so I asked my cardiologist if weight loss surgery was an option. He said yes, that my heart was fine and the AFib was not really an issue. So I began my adventure. I was 1 week from surgery and my first surgeon decided I was a risk because he was in a clinic rather than a hospital and didn't want to take the risk with my lung issues- I had a high level of carbon dioxide. In Dec of 2012 I went to Henry Ford in Detroit for a consult and I haven't looked back. I had my sleeve on March 11, 2013 and weighed 243. I am 4'11. I am now at 165, off oxygen, off insulin and doing great. I would love to go down to 130 but may not make it. When my body decides it's enough I will be happy to be anywhere under 160. I am in a size 14 pants and an XL top. The picture above is the most recent.
