  1. Wow congratulations those results are unreal! I started full liquid diet on January 12, had my sleeve on the 22nd. 287 lbs day I started liquids, 271lbs on surgery day. Today, I hit my first goal which was to get under 200lbs by Labor Day. I am 197 lbs yeah me! I can't wait to hit 100lbs, I can feel the joy you have today and I hope you have many more days like this as you hit all you goals/milestones! Keep it going!

  2. I think there are the not supposed to have (carbonated bevs) items, and then the things we should choose not to have because they are foods that will get in the way of our weight loss and what probably caused us to become obese to begin with (pizza, Pasta, wings, meat with skin like hot dogs, brats, sausages, high sugar foods, etc) I still indulge in a bite or two every once in a while, but, I get the full feeling so quick, I have never felt guilty for the few bites. Nothing bothers my stomach except steak, it just makes me really nauseous so I avoid all red meat now altogether. bread isn't the easiest to digest either but I really dont eat sandwiches any more so its not a big deal. I was not a big popcorn person before, but I have had a handful or two since surgery 7 months ago and had no problem. I have grapes all the time, also no problem. The best advise I have is to manage your Protein, always always always eat protein first. You will fill up fast and not feel the urge nor have a desire to eat the "bad" stuff anyways. I'm still losing 7 months out, down to 198 from 287. Weight loss has stalled a little, but I do admit I luvs the beer :) so now that summer is winding down and I won't be indulging after my kids baseball games on a hot summer night with a cold beer or four, I hope the weight loss will kick back up to 2 lbs a week again. Good luck!

  3. best decision ever is right! Congrats to you! I feel the same and you and I have very similar goals! My VSG was on 1/22. My heaviest on January 8th (the day I found out I was having surgery 13 days later) was 287 LBS. Day of surgery I was 271. Today I am 221. Total wl is exactly 1/2 way to go! I am so glad I decided to have the surgery, it has changed my life. Keep up the awesome momentum and good luck on the 2nd half of your journey!

  4. hi guys. I am frustrated. How many calories per day is everyone netting in order to achieve 1 LB-2LB per week weight loss? I cant figure this out for the life of me and It's starting to really depress me. I use myfitnesspal religiously. I have it set at 1,100 calories per day. I exercize and win another 200-450 per day depending on the workout and the length of time I exercize. Anyhow, I have no trouble eating 1,100, also no trouble getting in 70-90 grams of Protein. So why am I not losing weight? too many calories? too little? what gives? Preop diet weight was 286 LBS, I had my sleeve on 2/22. I was 271 on surgery day which was 13 days later. Today I am 228 LBS. I realize that I have made HUGE weight loss, 60 LBS is nothing to be sad about, it's only been 15 weeks, but this recent stall is really hard to push through. I have been up and down from 231-228 for 3 weeks now. Trying to press through this and hit my initial goal of being at 220 LBS by my birthday which is June 10th. At this pace I will be there by the end of summer not in 6 weeks.

  5. I have 4 kids, all young, oldest 11 and youngest is 6 so I totally relate to your concerns. I will tell you I had 1 vaginal delivery and 3 sections so I thought I was an expert in pain management-this pain was far worse than I ever expected. Do not under estimate the help you will need at least for the first few days home. Plan on having rides ahead of time for the kids to all activities. If possible have someone come over to do laundry and grocery shop for the kids meals. Also, a few days before surgery stock up on broth and Protein Shakes and get your pain meds before you leave! The gas pain in my shoulder was almost unbearable and the nausea was horrific for days. You'll be weak and want to sleep a lot so try and find a way to have some support in place, it really is a big deal, you will need help. Good luck!

  6. I will be 5 weeks tomorrow, started reintroducing solid food over the weekend. Here's what I've learned-you have to separate the food if you want an accurate measurement of Protein. So, we took kids to lunch at Hard Rock Cafe yesterday, I ordered the chicken club sandwich on whole wheat bun. Took off the bacon (just cuz it's a high fat protein and I won't go back there for a while) took off the lettuce and the top of the bun. Had 3 small bites and was STUFFED. Also subbed the fries for green Beans. Waited for 5 minutes after I felt like I couldn't eat another bite, and had 2 bites of the beans and I was really done at this point! Moral of the story, counted 250 calories, maybe got in a whopping 10 grams of protein, not going to cut it if all my meals go like that.

  7. I had my 4 wk post pop today, it the 1st week I can say I was pain free. It takes a full week for the dry mouth, gas pains and exhaustion to subside. Maybe another full week until no more muscle pain in the abdomen. Third week you'll start feeling better, but will still have low energy. Just focus on managing through the pain for today/tonight. Get up and walk the halls! You have to move to get the gas out.

  8. broth, but make sure it's just warm. My surgeon told me hot tea, coffee etc. not a good idea. Room temp Water or broth is best. I'm 4 weeks out today, I am finally 100% pain free, but it lingered for 3 weeks! The gas pain is so bad! All I can tell you is to keep moving through the pain. The other thing that helped me "move the gas" was to lay in the floor on your back, pull your legs to your chest and just lay there like that for a few minutes. So this about once an hour. It does get better!

  9. I am (was) a HUGE Pasta eater too. I find since my surgery (4 weeks ago today) on no longer have the cravings for carbs. I do love the cheese, sauce and meat though so I made lasagna with out the pasta and I'll tell you I didn't miss the pasta one bit! Make some small meatballs, 1 1/2 inch in diameter, or a about 2 oz each. Put them in crockpot with a jar of your favorite sauce or home made. Cook on low for 5-6 hours. When done, smash with a fork a meatball, two TBS sauce and throw two tbs of ricotta cheese on top, it's delish! Also, when I am feeling like I want just try some of the foods I'm avoiding, I remind myself that this is the weight loss period so stay focused on why you had the surgery to begin with. If you just can't resist then try a trick a friend of mine who had bypass 10 years ago told me-take a bite, chew it very well and spit it out.

  10. anyone else have the blues? I'm trying to stay positive but I do feel like I need to vent a little. I havent seen the scale move down a single pound in 1 1/2 weeks! Whats up with that? Maybe I am eating too few calories? I feel like I lost more weight when I did weight watchers, 2-3 LBS per week. I'm eating 1/2 the calories that I did then, and not losing anything! I've been darn near close to 60 grams of Protein a day for the past 2 weeks, managing to keep my caloric intake to anywhere between about 500-700 calories per day, sometimes even less. Mostly eating cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt, broth and the Protein Shakes. I have had some meat, I grind it up in the food processor or my surgeon said he was fine with any meat I could easily smash with a fork, so a meatball etc.....Still struggling with the water-maybe 30-OZ total Water, then another 15 OZ other fluids. Yesterday every time I ate or drank anything, I had this horrorble gurgurling sound in my throat-and I was in a training session for the whole day so very embarrassing. Today, I had my 1st piece of toast in over 5 weeks. I put 3 oz of tuna fish and just a tiny squirt of light hellman's, threw it on top of the wheat toast & it and it went down really well and it seemed to be just the right amount of food. I was full, not stuffed. No issues what so ever, no burping or gurguling, it was all good. Now tonight, I am feeling horrible. Stomach ache, diarreah which I thought was behind me & I have a horrible head cold on top of all this. BLAH. Maybe I just need to stay off the scale for a week, and take care of this cold & maybe I'll feel better and the food issues I am having will become less bothersome.

  11. I have been concerned over the same thing. I just accepted a new job and then found out the following day my surgery was scheduled and happening 13 days later so I was worried about what to tell my new employer regarding travel. I ended up pushing my start date out until Monday, Feb 11th because I was told I had madatory orientation at HQ my 1st 2 days on the job. I am in sales as well, so lots of air travel is expected of me in my role. So, I spoke to my surgeon at the final appointment I had a few days before my surgery which was 2 weeks ago yesterday, and he was OK with my plan to fly to NYC on the 11th, that gave me just about 3 full weeks post op. He just said to make sure I got up often to stretch, and to keep my feet active while sitting and highly recommended I buy myself a pair of compression socks. I got a pair the next day which you can buy at any medical supply store. I think the highest compression you can buy with out a perscription is 15/20. They will fit you for a pair when you go in. They keep the blood flowing in your legs to prevent clots, which I think we are all concidered at risk for up to 6 months post op. My trip is only a little over an hour flight so my surgeon was OK with it. He did tell me he would not have OK'd a trip that close to my surgery that was more than 4 hours so you may want to talk to your surgeon. Better to be safe than sorry.

  12. You could reply you are going then the morning of the wedding send her a text and say you've got a horrible flu, fever throwing up the whole 9 yards. Also for what its worth today is 2 weeks post op for me and I actually feel really good I'm back to work I'm exercising with the exception of a little bit of pain in my one incision, i would be totally up for a wedding today so if you reply you're going you may find that you actually do feel up for going at least for a little while!

  13. I can completely relate about the mental back and forth! I just had my sleeve 11 days ago, I decided to tell only a few people and honestly they were friends who I knew would support me, it's what i needed to get me through the 2 week pre op. I didn't tell my mom or my sister (who is still so mad at being kept in the dark she isn't speaking to me) who found out by accident when my 9 yr old who told my dad who just happened to call the day after surgery I was in the hospital for my stomach. Dad called my mom and from there it totally unraveled. And my sister is STILL angry because she says I should have told her because she deserved a chance to see me before surgery that significant because what if I hadn't made it through? See, it's all about THEM! So I say you go with you gut! I am more convinced post op given the reactions of those I chose not to tell (mother in law included) i absolutely made the right choice on not telling them, good luck on your journey, I feel for you, follow your heart, keep God by your side, he'll guide you through this journey!

  14. Hi! Sorry for the late reply, yes, in live in Cleveland, a suburb about 10 miles west of downtown. 11 days post op and starting towards feeling like myself, only 30 LBS lighter (from the day I started pre op diet) so for the most part I really can't complain! The recovery after surgery was much more than expected especially the gas pain in my left shoulder and the horrible nausea. How have you been doing? You just had your surgery right?

  15. Oh and on the Vitamins, my surgeon said to not worry about them for now, the Iron could make you feel worse plus, he said we can go at least a month before we are depleted to the point where we'd have concern. I had my surgery at the main campus of the Cleveland Clinic, my surgeon is pretty amazing so I really trust his advice. He said OK to take the B12, plus the 2 meds he prescribed for the gall stones and the stomach acid. He also said to start with Flinstones chewables, 2 per day in about a month
