I also had to do 6 months. But actually 7 appts. with a bariactric doctor, I had to keep a food journal(myfitnesspal) and I also could not drop below 40 BMI or that would have been a denial straight out because I have no comorbs. Also had to see exercise specialist/nutritionist as well. It felt like the longest 6 months of my life. Fast forward to now, I got my approval and start my pre-op diet July 29th, sleeve aug 5. So it does finally come to an end!!

female only Question about how to save the "girls" once weight loss starts.
adargie posted a topic in The Gals' Room
I am getting scheduled for surg and have a question regarding boobs. LOL, anyway, I am top heavy, 44/46 DDD, wondering if anyone has any tricks to tighten things up as they start going south. In the past I lost 25 pounds on the south beach diet(only to gain back plus 15) but I happened to notice how I lost in the breast area, which worries me they are going to be "2 eggs in a sock tacked to a wall" after I lose a significant amount of weight. Any advice would be welcome- exercises, wraps,(or a good plastic surgeon! ha!) -

Has anyone not lost anything during the 6 months before surg?
adargie replied to adargie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I ended up losing the couple pounds I had gained(by starving myself for 2 days) so overall my weight was one pound higher than my initial weigh in, so I remained at a 40.7 BMI. My dr was happy and they submitted my info to the insurance, now to wait, they told me 14 days and with the holiday it could be longer. So I am hoping to hear something early next week. I don't know anyone who has had this surgery with my insurance(priority health)so I am in the dark. -
I am also contemplating all that crazy paperwork, where did you go to have your will done? I don't have an attorney and would just like to get an idea of how to go about that stuff. It needs to be done whether or not I have surg. anyway I figure

Who's playing the waiting game with me?
adargie replied to GBFree82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my own waiting game too, mine with waiting for ins approval, also 2 weeks, sigh...... -
I can agree with not telling those that live far away. My dad lives in Arizona(me mich) and my best friend in cali. It has been difficult not telling them but I know what worry warts they are and would hate to keep them up at night, I will eventually tell them. (don't have a date yet hoping aug) also I am only telling those I know who will be positive energy for me prior to surg. The whole "you're not that fat" gets real old. Good luck friday, will be waiting to hear your story

Papers to be submitted today, now the waiting game.
adargie posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my last weigh in yesterday, so my Dr said they will submit my paperwork today and it takes about 2 weeks before they hear anything, And with the holiday who knows how long....ugh. I swear this has been the longest 6 months ever. I am hoping to have a date in aug. if everything goes well. My Dr did say I would prob only have to do a 1 week preop diet because I am a "low" bmi-er(40.7) -
Has anyone not lost anything during the 6 months before surg?
adargie replied to adargie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the replys, I have been concious with my diet but was told if I dropped below 40bmi I would not be covered(I started with a bmi of 40.4) but I am hopping its not a catch 22 and they deny me because I didn't lose any. Just have the jitters wondering if anyone else is in my position -
BMI of 39 - anyone have to gain weight for the insurance to cover
adargie replied to wasabi's topic in Insurance & Financing
I think my insurance is different, sounds like they record my last weigh in. I started at bmi of 40.4 and I have actually gone up a couple pounds so I am now at 41, so I am crossing my fingers that doesnt affect my outcome. My Drs told me not to drop below 40 during the 6 months, its actually been very difficult. I keep bouncing around the same 2-3 pounds. This has been the longest and fattest 6 months of my life!!! -
BCBS Federal - Weight loss during 3 month pre-op diet
adargie replied to Lulu5's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am on my last month of of 6 month pre-op for insurance and the dr following me said that with my insurance I cannot drop below 40bmi or they will not pay. I started at like 40.7. So I have purposely not lost weight and am nervous that they will deny me because of that -
That is amazing!!! I am inspired by your story!!! If you don't mind me asking what ins did you have?
-
Congrats on the approval!! Did you lose any weight during your 6 month? I have gone up a couple since I started and I am worried this will affect my ins outcome, my paperwork will be submitted 6/26ish so I am absolutely outta my mind about it. This has been the longest 6 months ever.
-
I am in the same boat, bmi of 40.4 and I have gone up a couple pounds since I began , I am super worried about it my last weigh in is june 25 so gonna be on my best behavior to try to get those few pounds off, but man I am scared they are going to deny me!
-
OK I have a week and a half before my final weigh in for my 6 month course. I am have no comorbidities and my start weigh was 258 so that puts me right at 40.4 bmi, my insurance requires bmi of 40 or above for no comorbidities so needless to say I have not gone under 258, I have actually gone up a couple of pounds. But I read my surg requirements and it says "The BMI recorded on the prior authorization form should be based upon measu rement of height and weight within one month of requesting the evaluation." My question is should I keep these few extra pounds on to get me to 41 bmi since they use the last measurement of the course or should I just try for my exact start weight. I don't want them to deny me because I didn't lose. But I really have not put anything on. Every weigh in I was within one pound of my start weight and I have printed my food journals and my DR says I have done very well. I think I am just starting to get loopy from constantly thinking about this approval. I was told when I started 'Just DO NOT drop below 40 bmi or they will for sure deny" I am hoping others have dealt with this situation, I know every ins is different, mine is Priority Health and I am in Michigan. I have not spoken to anyone with this ins and in my situation so I am really nervous.
-
I am in the same boat with you, but I have Priority Health ins, my BMI is like 40.4 and I have no comorbidities. I have been nervous this whole time about that. My last weigh in is June 25th and then the paperwork will be submitted. I do not know anyone who had dealt with priority health so I have nothing to go on. Good luck with the appeal I will be interested to know how it works out
