I went through the same thing and it is still tuff! I did however find a palatable Protein powder that has 20 GM protein per serving. It is Amplyfied Whey PRO by GNC. Believe me; I have tried a slew of powders due to the smell, taste change. Hang in there and let us know what you came up with. When you are able to eat soft foods try egg beaters or egg whites and mix in Light laughing cow cheese wedge to keep it from being so dry. A true saving food for me:)

    Pre-op diet!

Hang in there! Think about the weight you will loose Pre-Op:) and the benefit of decreasing the fat around your liver so the surgeon can better do there job. It is definately not easy but you can do it ! My surgery Dec 31st- TWL=38pds
  5. I agree with optimist. It is a lifestyle change and a serious one at that! You have to decide what is more important. The foods and drink you enjoy as a part of your social and work life, that helps keep you physically where you are now. I know you want to feel better and be healthier:) You should definately keep reading literature and get an understand that once you have surgery the eating and drinking change. There are pros and Cons to consider snd you should weigh them all.You may want to talk to the Psychiatrist again about your feelings which is ok:) Godspeed to you on your journey!
  6. Some medications can increase hunger as well. You may want to look into that. Hang in there and don't give up and "keep your eye on the prize"!

Hopefully I am not asking to much but your the first person I have seen that has made it to where I want to be:) God bless your journey! Any tips are appreciated

    Progress

King that is a pretty inspiring picture and exactly the kind of transformation I aspire to obtain! What protein powder do you use? Do you mind sharing how you progressed in your workouts, hydration during and after workouts and how you keep up with your nutrition:) Thank You
  9. Make sure you are not gaining more than 2 pounds in one day. If so you should contact your Dr or the ON call Dr to see what they think. Several days of that would not be good. Stay encouraged and don't stop believing in your dream!
  10. I understand:) WE all go through many emotions during this journey!
  11. Ask your nutritionist. It may be the lack of water. Water is the catalyst for so many things in our body. Hang in there!

    Hunger

Have any of you had hunger so soon after post op period. I was hoping that due to "Ghrelin hormone" being reduced because a large portion of my stomach had now being taken away;which Dr's think is a benefit of the sleeve surgery. I fill like it is hunger but will drink some Water and Protein drink and feel full but the hunger feeling is still there. I saw on a couple other threads people stated it could be acid indegestion or reflux. I am on Prilosec but maybe need another dose? I have also seen people refer to head hunger. How are you differentiating head hunger vs real hunger? How do you deal with your family eating regular food around you and they are many of the foods you favored before? The smells create cravings that thankfully can't be quenched! It is obvious that the psychological part of this journey is an important and aspect to really focus and meditate on. Thank you all:)

    Hunger

"TakingControl" - You are welcome and yes it is good to know "it's not just you"! Everyone I really didn't know how much you have to mentally adjust to the affects of the physiologic( your digestive system) change you go through. I know we all had to have psych evaluations and I can see why even more now but those evaluations or sessions should really incorporate some of these familiar feelings and psychophysiologic( mental and physical) feelings we all have. I think of smokers trying smoking cessation ( stop smoking program) or alcoholics attending AA ( Alcoholic Anonymous). I would think that those who have any addiction, once they stop or withdraw from the source of their addiction have to physically and mentally adjust to loss of that dependence. Same for us, I suppose. Physically and mentally but the physical part is amped up due to a real anatomic change so our bodies are rewiring some circuitry. Pat yourselves on your backs because it takes real strength to accept and take on the challenge that we all have chose to take!!!!!Godspeed Sleevers!!!

    Hunger

Thank you all:) I am Post-Op day 5. I will ask my surgeon about this medication it's impact. I sometime feel it may be gas but never imagined gas feeling like hunger. I also thought of spasms but would never imagine that either.
  17. When I try to drink water or meal replacement it feels like the liquids get stuck in my esophagus and then will slowly go down. I did have a small hiatal hernia repair and feel it may be due to this. Anyone have any advice? There are times when I am not even drinking and I get this full.. Ummm I suppose gaseous feeling in my chest. Post Op day 5- how long does gas last. I try to walk it off but it doesn't always help. Advice please:)
  18. Good job Holly getting back on track! Keep pushing forward! Makayla07- Keep pushing on and I am praying that you will be able to tolerate Proteins better. I know about those Protein bullets and they were hard to swallow down Pre-OP, never the less post op sleeve. I went to GNC today and the sales Lady Showed me the bullets and I was like... Ummm. Not unless I just have to unless they taste better than they did a couple years ago. Makayla07, have you tried fish? I wonder if it will go down better for you.
  19. Thank You Makayla07 You keep hanging in there! Are able to chew and keep down any meat/protein other the chicken you are having difficulty with? Are you able to enjoy any Protein source? How much weight have you lost In your 4 1/2 months? Thank you for you comment about the treats! We all need to remind each other of what is so easy to do and that is get off track due to do many reasons. Treats can be dangerous so I working on changing my psychology around the whole dependence on treats and comfort food.
  20. Thank you Holly:) I will be praying for everyone! Be careful with those "treats" we know how addicting they can be and later spiral out of control, especially for those of us who are "Foodies and emotional eaters". Also, I have Nectar Medical unflavored protein. It leaves a filmmy taste though. Does your Unjury have an after taste or noticiable smell to it? How do you feel and do you mind sharing how much weight lost?
  21. Yes, it is very frustrating!!! We will hang in there and make it through;supporting everyone thru this healthy lifestyle commitment!!!
  22. Thank you for replying:) It is so helpful knowing I am not having some affect that is uncommon. I am definately praying it goes away soon. My Surgeon did say he thought it may be some swelling and was hoping it goes away soon. He stated I needed time to heal before doing and EGD. Kept me an extra day for IV steroids to help with the "swelling". He also stated if he had to later but hopes he doesn't . They can dilate or expand the area some if needed. If so that would be later. I wouldn't want that though so I am hoping that as you stated; it goes away with a little time. Your Dr explained it very well:) Anything anyone knows that helps with the continued gas pain? You all are great! Glad I found this APP AND SITE
  23. Hang in there! I am going thru the same thing. Post-Op day 5 and I am having a hard time getting my meds down and liquids. I guess we have to have patience with ourselves(body healing).
