  1. I've actually been concerned that I haven't lost much weight. Started at 271 n now I'm 226..I don't see much of a difference until yesterday. I shopped at American eagle for the 1st time ever! I got a dress size L and a denim vest size XL..I felt great to shop there since i was never able to before surgery.

    Congrats on your success.

  2. I was sleeved 4/16. Everything was dandy until the 3rd day I came home. I got the gout attack from hell. I have had kidney problems since childhood. so gout is nothing new to me although preop it was well controlled. I knew I hadn't ate or drank anything to cause an attack. I researched it and came to find out that surgery and rapid weight loss will cause gout flare ups. Well after a trip to the ER' date=' a shot of morphine and a script of percocets later, I felt better. I could actually walk but not long distances. My poor husband had to push me around in a wheelchair to my college classes and finals. Well I got better. Didn't need a wheelchair anymore. Then this past Friday, I woke up and couldn't move. I cant walk once again. it was back although I'm not sure it totally went away. My pcp gave me tramadol which is useless. The only thing that ever worked was Alleve and now I can't take it. Anyone else have gout problems after surgery? I've been stuffing my face with cherries because I hear that helps but no luck. I'm just wondering why my pcp didn't put me on colchicine or allopurinol. Is it safe for out sleeves?[/quote']

I have also had this issue post surgery. Here is solution that works well for me. When I feel the gout coming on I flush my system with as much Water and lemon juice as I can stand. Lemon juice is a natural way to get rid of the uric acid. I think the gout is triggered by the large amounts of Protein we are taking in. If you catch it early it will be gone in a day or two. I like Excedrin for pain myself when I just can not take the pain. Good luck.

  3. I have finished weight loss during the first 7 months (180 lb goodbye) and the following occurred:

    1. Shirt size dropped from 3x/4x to medium or large ( in between). Casual button shirts feel best in large on me. Fitness shirts for running or cross fit feel best in medium on me. Tshirts are good in medium or large' date=' depending on brand.

    2. Pant size dropped from 48 to 32. A good fitting Levi feels great! Perfect fit!

    3. Shoe size dropped from 11 w to 10. Not a big win for me, but I do like to wear normal size Nike now, especially for running and workouts.

Be prepared to go through several sets of clothes as you drop weight. We ended up buying from Value Village or good will and, in turn, donated huge amounts of clothes there. Now I shop at places like Macy's, old Navy, kohls and the likes.i have not really felt the need to step into the really trendy mall clothing stores yet, but that is just me. Too expensive and I am approaching middle age so don't need to fit in that way.[/quote']

I have also been shopping at second hand clothing stores, but one of my favorites lately has been Target. It is nice to be able to find clothes in the regular section not the big and tall section.

  4. I tried a lot of chewables with lots of different flavors they all tasted disgusting to me. I tried gummies as well they tasted terrible as well. I they went to regular Vitamins and those worked well for me. All of my levels from my labs are always normal. You can get a lot of your vitamins from the foods that you eat when you get to that stage. I bought Multivitamins and b-12 from target and those have worked well for me and I have bought Citrical calcium citrate in a pill form and it goes down pretty well.

  5. Congrats on the rollercoaster. I just came back from Disney and Busch Gardens and I rode every Roller coaster they had. It was the first time I have felt comfortable and not stressed out wondering if I will fit in the ride or not.

  6. FP9107 -

What you described is exactly what I need to do. I hope it doesn't take me 6 months. I am pushing to get it done prior to the holidays in enough time to be healed for Christmas.

I started my first informational meeting in August of last year, but I could not get in before the end of the year, I tried because I had all ready met my deductable, but my surgery ended up being February 19 of this year. The holidays put my schedule behind.

  7. The Protein I bought before surgery I could not tolerate after. The thought of it made me ill. At about three weeks I was able to tolerate protein. I now use products from GNC. I tolerate those fine. I discovered by accident that I am lactose intollerant to full fat milk after trying a small vanilla shake from Mcdonalds and it coming up violently 30 minutes later. I use skim milk and bananna creme Protein Powder and that works great. Keep trying until you find something you like. Some of the protein powder companies sell samples so you can find something you like. I personally to not like Syntrax products because they taste too sweet to me. When I was trying to get my protein in I was having trouble keeping it down and my doc said not to worry about getting your protein in and concentrate on your Water intake the protein will come in time. Good luck.

  8. fp are you already sleeved? I see a ton of people saying they cant eat Pasta or rice because it makes them very uncomfortable. Are you able to eat those things? My surgeon is a center of excellence as well but he does not require any kind of pre-op diet I also am seeing the surgeon on July 18. Good luck nmick!

I was sleeved on February 19 and there are a few foods that I have issues with one is pork chops and another is french fries. Everyone is different. My tastes have changed somewhat. My wife gets frustrated at me because she does not know what to cook any more. It is not because I can not eat those foods, but some things just do not sound good to me in my head. I have had some Pasta and tolerated that fine. I have had rice in a small portion and had no issues.

  9. I have been stalled for about 2 weeks fluctuating between 30 and 32 lbs lost. I just started working out last week (walking' date=' eliptacle, some leg toning exercises) and have been cutting down on my carbs again because even though eating them sucks sometimes I just can't get enough it seems. Any ideas on how to push through it?[/quote']

Try and up your Protein, that has helped me in the past.

  10. I know that some people are required to do a pre-op diet' date=' but it seems like everybody is losing weight before they have the surgery and Im confused as to why. Am I the only person that feels the need to eat everything in the world that I may never be able to eat or not like anymore after the surgery? I know the surgery is not a quick fix and I have to get my eating habits under control and all that, so it is like I am having a final farewell to food that I actually enjoy, as I feel it will no longer have a place in my new life, or my tiny sleeve. Did anybody else go through this? I had lost a bunch of weight because I was on medifast but the idea of eating that to the day of my surgery was unbearable, especially given the number of people that cant eat bread and rice. Obviously since I have stopped that I have gained weight (about 10 lbs) and I have started drinking again but I have decided to quit that because Id rather eat the calories and for some reason drinking has not been nearly as enjoyable post medifast. Anybody else on a bit of a binge preparing for their surgery?[/quote']

One of the main reasons your doc wants you to loose the weight is so that he can shrink your liver so that he has enough room to move around in your belly to do your surgery. Another reason is so that you start to taper off the amount of food that you are eating and trying to get you to come off of the foods that are bad for like soda and high fatty foods. You will still be able to eat the foods that you loved in the past, but in moderation. You new stomach will help you with your portion size, but you will have to retrain your brain to know what is normal after surgery. It is a learning process and anyone that has had the surgery has had to walk the same path that you are starting down. The hardest part is the mental aspect after the surgery.

  11. well - it is different day to day. Some days I can hardly eat. But today' date=' I wanted to stuff my face with everything in front of me. And I did (about half). Seems like I have very little restriction today. Maybe my brain is playing old scripts, but my stomach seems to be going along. I feel like I want to go have an upper GI done just to make sure I didn't have placebo surgery.

    Am I crazy?[/quote']

You might try eating more filling foods. I can sit and eat a whole bag of cheetos and still not fill full. I choose not to now after I once made that mistake.
