  1. I've never heard of Mia, but I would be very happy with her body! Maybe she would be a happy medium between Queen Lateefa and Linda Carter.... Here's a link to pix of Wonder Woman on IMDB http://www.imdb.com/gallery/mptv/1359/Mptv/1359/1640_0010.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Carter,%20Lynda I think I already look like Queen Lateefa
  2. Hmmm, how much "work?" Cue Maynard G. Krebs: "WORK?!" I think on of the reason so many people are able to be successful with losing weight with the band is that it is a lifestyle change, not simply a diet. I think, other than head hunger, body hunger is pretty much taken care of with the band. YES! you will still get hungry, so don't think you will never be hungry again. You will be hungry because you will have gone for hours without even thinking about eating, not because you are forcing yourself to not eat. Hope that made sense. Some people don't have to excersize, and they will still lose weight, but theoritecially for the maximum effect, you must get up and moving if you can. Excersize doesn't have to be something boring, it can be learning new dance moves, going ballroom or salsa dancing, or my favorite, bellydancing. It can be taking up crewing (rowing) or rollerskating, or ultimate frizbee.
  3. Hey Saul, vomiting that much is BAD. If you are only able to keep soft fish down, then you are too tight. I have the same size band you do, and when I"m at a 1.5 cc it's too much. Everyone one is different, but if you are BPing or vomiting, then you are too tight. Being too tight puts you at risk for serious problems. Please, please talk to your doc about this. The state you are in is just miserable, and I'm sorry.
  4. Oh ((((hunny)))))! I have no idea what this could be, but please keep us informed!
  5. Heh heh heh, that's pronounced "Pew-al-up" for those that dont' know. Althought it is hilarous watching new newscasters trying to pronouce that....
  6. Well, I don't believe anyone told me this, but banding will have a profound effect on not only the person being banded, but those close to them as well. There is so much psychological work that needs to be done, especially if one has been MO for most of their lives. We get used to being treated a certian way, being invisible, or other behavours and attitudes. No one ever told me that there were Turtles and Rabbits. No one ever mentioned that I would only be down 25 pounds net in 16 months. But no one also told me that my asthma would be all but gone. That instead of making sure that I had an inhaler in every room, two at my night table, one in my jacket and one in my purse and one in my jeans pocket, that I would now *think* I know where one is, but I'm not sure. The reason I'm not sure where one is, is because I don't think I've used an inhaler more than a dozen times in nine months, instead of using a dozen in nine months.
  7. Thinking of you today. Best wishes and a speedy recovery! (((((((alice)))))) White lights and healing thoughts...
  8. Thanks Tricia, finally some good news in my life!
  9. Well, actually DOC, I can think of a few reasons why, even if you follow every rule and guideline, you still won't lose weight.
  10. Here are two very useful sites... http://www.nutritiondata.com/index.html http://www.caloriesperhour.com/
  11. bumping cause I wanna
  12. Well, this last week I've been eating more ice cream than usual, and I've lost 5 pounds...
  13. This is way too funny, but how do you deal with the wires???
  14. anyone else want to play? I really have enjoyed the majority of the suggestions so far, and I'm close to a decision. Thanks for playing!
  15. I've been thinking about this. While yes, there are some terribly rude and obnoxious people in the world, others are simply ignorant or have poorly developed senses of humor. Personally, when standing in very long lines, like for movies, I've been known to make varous barnyard animals who get penned. LIke sheep, cattle, or even hogs. And I've gotten some very hostile looks from people while joking with friends when I make my animal noises. Oddly enough sheep/goat and chicken noises don't generate much antagonism, but cows and pigs... whoa, another story altogether!
  16. I'm reading Quicksilver by Neil Stephenson. I L-O-V-E his books, but they are not, at least for me, a quick read. Terri Goodkind just released the next one in his series, but I haven't found it in paperback... I'm also reading a great book called Malware, computer security of course. I'm also reading two cookbooks. The first one is The Bors Hede Boke of Cookry, which is a cookbook of sorts, that covers food and cooking in 14th and 15th century England. It has the original "reicpe" for various dishes with the original language, but hen the is a translation for modern cooks that includes measurements like 1 cup, or 1/2 a teaspoon, as opposed to "a goodly measure." The other cookbook is the original Fanny Farmer 1896 cook book.
  17. My ex-husband *demanded* that I be a stay-at-home mom, and did everything he could to make me quit school. "No wife of mine is going to work..." BS. This was after he joined the Cult of Amway. But he was a *very* controlling man, and very abusive. I personally needed to attend college, not only for my personal enrichment, but for my son. Because I was attending a local community college, he was able to attend a really great pre-school. (I'm a firm believer in good daycare for all children.) My DH only wants what is best for me, wants only for me to follow my dreams. Right now I'm not working, and I'm taking a break from school for obvious reasons. I am, however, in negotiations for a job that would be a dream job, degree or no. Oh, and I met my DH at work. We worked very closely for about 18 months before we started dating. He was my boss, but we didn't start dating until we both moved to different projects. Now I'm his boss. (joke) Oh, Leatha, I'm not a very good "helper." I'm way too independent, and I would be *miserable* in that role. Besides, I thought woman was made from Adam's rib to be his equal, to stand at his side, not his feet to be below, not his head to be above. :clap2: I think that now we have the opportunity for everyone to become self-actualized, and not locked into ridged gender roles. But I have an interesting role model, my aunt and uncle. When she went to medical school she had to have letters from our state's US senator, as well as State reps. My father-in-law only had to apply to attend the same medical school. My uncle has been a stay-at-home dad for most of their entire relationship, after he got his two doctorates that is. This relationship was and is perfect for them.
  18. My husband and I have been banded for a while, and our socializing hasn't really slowed down because of banding. Sure life still surrounds food, but the way we interact with the food itself has changed. All our friends know we've been banded, and they, as all good friends, are thrilled for us. While I haven't lost any weight to speak of, my health has really improved, and my husband has lost about 200 pounds so far. I think the key is to relax and not stress about it.
  19. Hello Cha, I've been thinking about this all afternoon, thinking about how to address this. I believe that the steroid use will greatly slow down your loss, when you are taking the medication. I know that different people react differently to steroids... some feel great and do really really well, and others feel like crap. I fall in the "feel like crap" camp when I have to take it. I know that when I am on steroids my appitite goes throug the roof, and I want to eat and eat and eat. The band being a restrictive technique should help with this, since you are physically restricted from eating. Good luck, and be kind to yourself.
  20. Just thinking about you. Hope you can get in with your doc very, very soon.
  21. you poor thing! I know that many people live quite nicely without their spleens, but so sorry you have to be one of them! I agree with the others, you should talk with your doc about his infection statistics. I honestly don't know what the greater stats are, but you might check out the Inamed's site as well. Please do a search on port infections and see what you come up with. Keep in mind that as a support board we will probably have a much higher incidence of problems than your specific surgeon or with Inamed. Take care, and keep in touch!
  22. the reason I don't think you would be a good moderator is that you are *too* passionate about LBT. I don't know that this is a personal failing, but I just don't think it's a good trait for a moderator.
  23. I've never understood the hype either. I personally think they are wayyy to sweet! Ick! I guess because I grew up with really good bakeries that I understand what a good donut is supposed to be like. Oh, and since my summer in England, I realize that no one does baked goods like the English.
  24. I typically always remove my shoes, since I hate wearing them. My son's the same way, neigher one of us typically keeps our shoes on for very long. My in-laws think it's pretty funny.
  25. Well, I have to disagree Susan, we've had some very nasty trolls lately. Some people have created second user accounts to hide behind while they spew hate and discontent. And Dody, I must disagree, I do not believe Susan would be a good moderator.
