    Marathon training

I'm still dropping too, but would like to be 10 lb lighter for running. Not liking that I'm losing my ass though. I like bonk bars. Not a fan of the gels and goo and Beans. I have reactive hypoglycemia and those can really do a number on me.

    Does running get easier!?

Check out Chi running for help on your running form. You may be striding too far in front of your body and putting stress on your knees. There are videos on YouTube and websites dedicated to it. Have you been fitted for running shoes? If not, try out some with a "zero drop" or "minimal drop". They will also help with knee issues. I wear Brooks PureCadence and love them. Since I switched from Brooks Adrenalines I've had a lot less knee pain. If it's a patella problem (chondromalacia), physical therapy can help build the inner quad muscles to help pull the patella into correct alignment with the knee groove. Taping using KT tape can also help, but it needs to be done correctly.
  3. I'm training for a marathon. Not sure if I'll be ready, but would like to do the OKC Memorial Marathon the end of April. Finished week 4 with a 9 mile long run today. I'm also running Ragnar Miami to Key West in 4 weeks. Total miles for it will be 18. Also, First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon in March.

    Does running get easier!?

Do you know which obstacle run would be good to start with? I know the Spartan race makes you do burpees for skipping obstacles.

    Goals

My New Years resolutions the past few years have centered on 3 things: 1. Being creative and learning new things 2. Fitness -- this year's is to run a marathon 3. My bucket list -- going zip lining and skydiving this year
  6. I am two years out and have been my comfortable goal weight for over a year. I'm also hypothyroid and on synthroid for 35 years. Here's what I recommend: STOP setting a weight loss goal by a certain date! You can NOT control how fast your body loses weight. Your goals should be measurable and you should be capable of attaining them. The only goals I had for the entire weight loss period were: Min 60 ounces of Water Min 60 ounces of Protein Min 60 minutes of exercise I lost slow, but steady. I never stressed myself out that "I didn't lose 5 pounds this week" because that was never my goal. I celebrated every single day that I met my goals. I never was down or depressed that I wasn't losing faster because I didn't have control of that!! Change your mindset and change your life!
  7. I used Dr. Lopez, but went to Puerto Vallarta. It was an amazingly good experience. Do a search for Dr. Lopez and several topics should come up with reports on people's experiences.

Tummy Tuck In 2 Days -Dec 17th

Some doctors will, some won't. It also depends on what you want done. Not sure about the plumping.

Your Favorite things- fitness/ exercise related

Love this thread! I'll second the FlipBelt! I have an iPhone 6plus and it fits. Love my Jaybird Freedom Sprint Bluetooth earbuds. Get fitted for good shoes! I buy last years model of the Brooks Pure Cadence and get them for $40-50 dollars (they're usually $100). Get cute workout clothes that fit. Working out is more enjoyable if you look good doing it.

    Already Thinking About Plastic Surgery

I agree with one year after you reach goal. You'll have the best results if you give your skin time to shrink. I had surgery 1/13, goal 10/13, and plastics 7/14. I absolutely love my results!

    Half marathon training

Run longs definitely require different fueling. I drink a protein shake before running and then I eat a bonk bar during the run. You'll need to figure out what works for you.

    5K ?

Very feasible. Start couch to 5K when your doctor releases you for exercise. I started one month after surgery. It takes you to running 30 min in 8 weeks. It took me about 10 weeks because I had to repeat days. You may need to train for longer to run the whole thing, but there are usually a lot of people running intervals.

    NSV shout outs

Had the best day today and all because I made the best choice and had WLS 2 years ago! Found a team to run the Ragnar Relay from Miami to Key West with. I never would have considered running to my mailbox before surgery. Confirmed for a softball team that starts Friday. I retired 10 years ago because my weight was making it too hard on my knees. I can't wait to start playing again! I went running twice today because I can! Got my lab results back from my rheumatologist and for the first time in years my inflammation labs are normal! Had to buy new jeans... size 8!! Happy dancing all day!!
  14. I had a PCOS surprise baby 14 years ago after going super low carb and losing 60 pounds. I was convinced I had a hangover that lasted 3 weeks from drinking 2 glasses of wine! Congratulations!

    Gaining after a year

I gained 5 lbs over Thanksgiving and decided I'd had enough and wasn't waiting for a magical date to start. I reached my "I'm comfortable with this weight" goal of 185 (I'm 5'10"ish), and was there for a year. I had to stop my intense exercises for plastic surgery and while recovering started snacking too much at Halloween and Thanksgiving. I started the reset on Nov 30th and I've stuck with 3 meals and one good snack a day. A protein shake for breakfast keeps me from going carb crazy. As of today, I'm down 15 pounds. That's in one month! I was a slow loser and don't think I ever lost 15 lbs except the first month after surgery. I want to go a bit lower so I can run at a faster pace and not hurt my joints.
  17. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in running a Ragnar Relay? What is Ragnar? Ragnar is an overnight running relay race that makes testing your limits a team sport. You and 11 of your craziest friends (or 7 of your crazier friends for a trail race team) pile into two vans and tag team running 200(ish) (trail: 120) miles, day and night, relay-style. Only one runner hits the road at a time. Each participant runs three times, with each leg ranging between 3-8 miles and varying in difficulty. So, from the elite runner down to the novice jogger, it's the perfect race for anyone. It really is a life-changing race. If you don't know your teammates, you'll be best friends by the end of the race. More info: www.ragnarrelay.com There are lots of locations throughout the U.S., but I think Vegas would probably be the best bet because tickets are cheap to there from everywhere. It's also in November so if you're just starting out you could train in that amount of time. Also, I'm looking for a team for Zion Trail in April. I'll need to register by Feb 27.
  18. At this point you are putting your health and your life at risk by over eating. The nerves in your stomach were cut during surgery and don't have the same full sensation that you will get when your stomach heals. You must eat the amount specified by the doctor and no more so that you don't cause a leak. You need to see a therapist sooner than later and address this behavior before you do serious damage.

    Ragnar Relay Bariatric Pal Team(s)

Found a team for Key West Ragnar. I am so excited! If you want to run in a particular Ragnar, you can go on the Facebook page for that race and there will be people posting that need runners. You can also post that you're looking for a team to run on.
  20. I'll be two years out from surgery in a month. I've been maintaining for over a year. About a week ago I started having a lot of stomach gurgling. I'm also nauseous and feel like I have a hangover. I keep getting hiccups, which in turn cause burping. No fever or other symptoms but I'm now afraid to eat because it makes me feel worse. Tried Prilosec and tums, but neither seems to help. Also tried cranberry juice because I thought that maybe the pH of my stomach is off. It helped a little bit for a short time. Planning on going to the doc next week if I'm not better, but was wondering if any of the vets have any good ideas?

    Where are you located?
  22. I would recommend Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey, MX. There is a support forum full of his past and future patients on Obesity Help. When you have scheduled surgery, there is a private Facebook group of patients where you connect with others that are having surgery the same time you are. The patient support and info was a big part of why I went to Dr. Sauceda. I had a lower body lift, butt flap augmentation, arm lift, breast lift/augmentation, and a neck lift. I am extremely happy with my results. The other benefit is Dr. S has the best and most gentle nurse in the world that helps you in the hotel after you get out of the hospital. Here are some pics from 5 months post-op. I'm 49 yrs old. Highest weight 273. Current weight 174.

    can't do this

I met my first goal weight of 185 after 9 months. My body didn't seem to any to lose any more and I stayed at 185 for a year. I got up to 189 after Thanksgiving and decided to get to my second goal weight of 173. I did a reset with protein shakes. Cut out all snacks and upped my exercise to 60 min a day. I've lost 15 pounds this month!! I didn't lose 15 pounds a month after surgery! It can be done!

    Does running get easier!?

You're welcome. My orthopedic surgeon has been shocked at how well my knee is doing. I told him my Chi Running secret and he's been suggesting it to all his patients that run. My knee doesn't feel any different after running 7 miles today than it would if I had walked 7 miles.
