    Permission to Fail

I recommend it, but I don't think counseling or therapy is a magic bullet for success. I didn't have it before my surgery. I did start therapy about 8 months after when I was almost at goal mainly for marriage issues. My therapist has about 10 weight loss patients and I am the only one that has reached goal weight and kept it off. Granted, she does not specialize in WLS patients. I think very few do. I would love to see if there has been research done on the efficacy of therapy for WLS patients.

    Hey all I'm back!

I lost 100 total from my top weight. Dr. Sauceda in Monterrey, MX did my surgeries. There's a forum on ObesityHelp for his patients and when you're close to surgery, there's a Facebook group you can join. I got a lower body lift, butt flap implant, breast lift/small implants, arm lift and neck lift. Happy with everything except the scar on my back has some keloids. Recovery was uncomfortable but not painful. It took about 4 months to feel normal. At six months I was running half marathons again. I would go to him again in a heartbeat. Such a kind and humble artist.

    Hey all I'm back!

Welcome back Amy! We had surgery around the same time and did C25K at the same time on the "Started C25K..." thread. I'm still around but don't post as much because I'm now living my life to the fullest. I do still read posts on here a lot, especially the vets. The one thing that helped me mentally the most was plastics. I had mine at 18mo out and the results keep me motivated and at goal. I'm 49 and have a better body than I had at 20.
  5. I'm 2.5 years out. I find it really helps to reset once a month. For two or three days I drink Protein shakes and green juices and have a really small dinner. I stay at or below my goal of 175 (I'm 5'10") most of the time. If I go above 175, I start watching what I eat more closely. @@CowgirlJane ... really not much more than what I said in my post above at http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/330902-what-are-your-differences-between-year-1-year-2-and-year-3/?p=3824614 Over at www.gastricsleeve.com there's a woman named "Grace" who really suffers from this problem. To find her posts, use the Advanced Search function and look for Keyword "hypoglycemia" and User Name "Grace." Her posts have generated some good discussions on that board. I'm also having a really hard time with reactive hypoglycemia. I wasn't a low carb fanatic at any time since my surgery. I have episodes around 11:30 if I don't drink a Protein shake for Breakfast or if I have anything with excess sugar in it. I also have episodes in the middle of the night. I thought I was having night sweats, but I have the tremors and ravenous hunger as well.

Tips for Abdominoplasty /Tummy Tuck Prep?

Congratulations!!!! Hope your infection clears up soon! I've followed your story for so long I feel like I know you... Our stories are quite similar and I feel like you're always one step ahead of me so I can look to you for what's to come, LOL! Doing my marathon in 9 days (so sorry yours got temporarily derailed) and then my plastics are scheduled for June 11th! I'm jealous too! My marathon was supposed to be in two weeks, but I made it to 16 miles and my hip started having issues. Rehabbing it this summer and working on my core. Sorry to hijack! I absolutely love my TT! Best thing I ever did. I'm 10 months out and no issues except an abdominal seroma right at the beginning that went away in two weeks with added compression. I had everything done at once... lower body lift, butt flap implant, arm lift, breast lift/small implants, and did a neck lift 3 days after the body surgery. It was uncomfortable, but I'm so glad it's done and I only had to recover once. My energy level was low for about 3 months, but started running after 12 weeks (my butt implant was a literal pain in the ass). I ramped back up pretty quickly and was running 1/2 marathon distance in about 2.5 months. Just take it slow and eat extra Protein before surgery and after while you're healing. About 5 months after:

Increasing stride length can increase risk of knee injuries. Have you tried increasing your cadence? Here's a good article: http://m.runnersworld.com/running-tips/aug-24-new-study-reports-shorter-strides-can-have-many-benefits?page=single Also, Google chi running. It's a running form where the stride does not exceed the forward lean of your body.
  9. This is not just eating off plan or going off a diet, this is self-harming behavior. It's the same thing as if you had an open wound on your arm and were pouring crap into it. If you have a therapist, you need to get in to see them. If you don't, you need to get one today.

    Plastic Surgery

I loved the twilight sedation. I was under for about 10 hours and I woke up feeling like I had the best night sleep in years. I remember waking up a few times but not conscious of my body at all. I asked a question I think and the doc put me right back out. Dr. Sauceda uses an epidural pain block in addition to the twilight. I've never heard of anyone having a bad experience with it. They use twilight in Mexico a lot more than they do in the U.S. I always throw up after general and feel like crap for days afterward. Here's a pretty recent pic.

    Plastic Surgery

I had breast lift/augmentation, lower body lift with butt flap augmentation and arm lift done in one surgery in Mexico with Dr. Sauceda. He uses twilight anesthesia instead of general so you wake up feeling really good. The number of hours in surgery is limited if you do it under general. I had a neck lift done two days after my body surgery. I was in the surgical hospital for 5 days and the hotel with daily nurse and doc visits for 8 days. I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

That's awesome Jess! I was sick so I'm just a few weeks behind you with a 15 mile yesterday. I bought a camelbak and it has really helped me go the distance. Sorry to hijack! I started C25K two years ago. Have also ran several halfs and lots of 5Ks and 10Ks. My 5K time started at over 45min and I'm down to almost 32min without much speed training. I have a knee issue but have managed it with Pennsaid 2% (it's a new gel nsaid), zero drop shoes, and chi running form. The key to training is persistence. Just get out there and do your training plan. No way in hell I would have even fathomed two years ago that I would be able to run 15 miles!
  14. Yes, I had it done. I added it during markup and am extremely pleased with the results. I don't have any pics that show a comparison of before and after. It did feel weird for the first five months. Harder to lay on my back. It makes my jeans fit so much better. I've even been told my ass is smokin when I've been in running tights. Not bad for 49!

Signed up for Rock n Roll New Orleans 2016 full. They have an early registration deal of $50 if anyone is interested. That's a huge savings. Also, $10 insurance for injury, illness, job loss, etc.

Anyone else training for a marathon? What training plan are you using? How are you eating to run long? How far along are you? What marathon are you going to run? I'm using Hal Higdon's Novice and on week 5 Day 3. I'm not eating on my long runs yet (only up to 9 miles). I'm hoping to do the OKC Memorial Marathon. Had a PR on 5K this morning, so I'm getting faster!

    Marathon training

Definitely PM me. I'm even willing to talk on the phone or send over pics. I was afraid of that too. My last run was in May (half marathon). I had orthovisc (lubrication) injections for chondromalacia which bothers me when I sit for long periods of time. I had about 2 months in between injections and surgery. I live in Florida and I couldn't get motivated to run in the heat, so I took some time off and worked on my core. After plastics I tried running at 6 weeks C25K day 1 and just felt too weird, especially my face and butt. I tried once a week after that but didn't really feel right until week 12. When I did start back I progressed quickly through C25K. I went from 45 sec of running to 9 miles in about 10 weeks.

Hip issues can definitely cause an imbalance when you run. You try to protect the area that hurts and end up injuring another part.

My DH was against it as well, but once my mind is set it's hard to change it. I had the body work on one day and neck (which is a lower face lift as well) 3 days later. Recovery was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. One of the reasons I went to Dr S, besides the support system, was he uses twilight sedation and epidural. I have a hard time with general and the twilight was like have a really good sleep. I felt so good when I woke up. I was so thankful to get everything done and over with, instead of having to recover from multiple surgeries. At 49 I have the body of a 30 year old and it feels fantastic.

I had plastics with Dr Sauceda in Monterrey MX. Love him and his nurse Paty. I had a breast lift/aug, lower body lift w/ butt flap implant, arm lift and neck lift. There's a really good support group and lots of info on ObesityHelp and Facebook. My weight was stable for a year even with running and I didn't think I was going any lower. Lost 15 in the last month but it seems to have stopped.

The bonk bar I like is the Peanut Butter / banana. It settles my stomach and doesn't cause issues. I only need it for runs over 7 miles. I've already had plastics and with implants (Breast and butt flap) I'm 49 and at 172 (5'10"), so I probably have another 7-10lbs I could lose, but my face is starting to look older. I drink a Protein shake and sometimes eat a banana before running. I don't eat much after I get back. I concentrate on fluids.
