    Regained Pounds - Still Fighting

I had lost 80 pounds - 30 before the bariatric surgery. I have gained back all but 16 pounds. I am NOT giving up the fight. Need to document the photos Of the weight gain I want to hide. To be able to see the fruit of my fighting back too.

    Struggles and stalls?!?!?

Well I have totally lost the battle but not the war. I was doing okay until I noticed that my stomach was not reducing. I went to my family practitioner and she told me I had a hernia and since I am not having any pain or internal bleeding it is best to leave it alone. The problem is I have gone down a clothing size - I have to wear my pre-surgery tops because of the bugled in my stomach area. I begin to be very discouraged and started to gain my weight back. I went back to my Gastroenterologist /Bariatric Surgeon for a 2nd opinion - and thinking he would have more medical knowledge/experience. He focused on my weight lost status and not any helpful advice about my hernia - which is centered around the incision he did to remove my gallbladder. I figured he was worried because it is an "incision hernia". I am told I must lose 100 pounds before they will repair it or unless it becomes life threatening. So now that I have regained 2/3 of my weight loss and have start over again finding a program that can work for me. I am frustrated and I have come back to seek support and to get myself back on track. I eat just about anything I want. There are repercussions - too much sugar or carbs causes my acid reflux to go off the charts and if I really binge - I vomit mucus. Which then goes into my lungs and I have to cough that out too. I do not binge that often at all. I can not go back to my surgical weight loss group - they have moved the classes out of my town to another medical facility but I will be searching for some type of local support. Thanks for letting me vent.

Alrighty, then. There are several veterans still on here, and a few "newer" veterans like myself (15 months sleeved). There are always newbies hopping on board the forum and who check in nearly everyday to see how their bariatric brothers and sisters are doing. Post what's on your mind........we're listening.

  7. I am FAILING! I am hungry a lot and secondly I want to eat all the time and I am craving sweets and eating them. I can almost eat the 2 cups of serving size anything. I have gained 5-8 pounds back and I want to stop. My goal is to lose 10 lbs but I want to eat all the time. I drink my water, protein & eat my veggies & protein. I have a support group through Kaiser that meets once a month. I can not afford to go to Weight Watchers meetings and the last Overeaters Anno. was depressi...

    setback today. forceful vomiting.

For sure - call the doctor immediately! I have only vomited 3 times - each time I over did it ( I am a little hard headed) but ever since the surgery I have had HORRIBLE acid reflux - have tried 4 different meds. One thing that seem to trigger this was the diced garlic in the jar - I had to give that away which my daughter is thrilled with cuz I like a lot of garlic as seasoning. I was told that coffee was a no-no for a while and it had to be decaffeinated too. So that may have triggered things too. Most important CALL your doctor and get an appointment PRONTO!
  9. Sleeve Guru - Water aerobics is on my list to do in a couple of months - I do not like being outdoors in the pool during the winter - even in SoCal it does snow and the temp in the 30's. Thanks for your contribution - good to hear.

    My Favorite Mexican Food

I did something similar I used 1 pound of ground turkey+low sodium taco mix. 1/4 cup vegetarian refried beans + 2 Tblsp of the turkey meat topped with shredded mozzarella cheese and salsa. So good and delicious!

    Hair loss and acid reflux?

Acid reflux happens I went from pecid to my old prescription and now I am on Protonix - and its not working at least for these last 24 hours. I will call my bariactric doctor during morning hours of the office. Which is what my support group always say to do when a problem arise and you should do the same. I was 3 months out from my surgery and have had massive hair loss but not bald. Which according to my support group is normal. Make sure you are getting at least 300 - 3000 mcg of Biotin (check your multi vitamin label) - also enough protein, fluids and minimize stress ( was told to AVOID stress - not happening)

Hi kimkai75, I had similar story - about a year before starting Options classes I had lost 17 lbs. and then lost another 8 lbs. They did not want to factor in those 1st 17 lbs. but my body had already registered it and so did my mind. I had 3 make-up classes to do and lost another 2 lbs. Then gained 8 lbs waiting to hear if I was going to have the surgery. Then got the phone call from the follow-up social worker (he was WONDERFUL!) who gave me the advice for the bariactric support groups (which I thought I had to wait to go to after my surgery - no) and he got me scheduled to see Dr. Suh to start my surgery process. I did that no carbs diet for about a month before my surgery and lost another 12 lbs totalling 29 pound loss by surgery day. Keep at it doing that 1 -2 punds a week is a great goal to use. Looking forward in hearing about your progress - one bite at a time.

    Totally inappropriate question

GOOD to know - I would have never thought to worry about gagging hurting my sleeve procedure. O.T.R. Sleeve is 100% correct - guys love hearing that sound. Pinky Green's EMPOWERMENT notation is right on the money. Helgaready - you are my Heroine! Thanks for the tips.
  14. Initially I could not eat a scrabble egg - it just sat on my stomach. I was soooooo disappointed. what I had to do was measure out 1/4 cups of whatever I needed to eat 1/2 of that then wait 2-3 hours. Sipping on water and then protein drink between. How thick is your cream of wheat - thin it out may help. I am doing so much better now. A couple of occasions I pushed it and had to wait it out as you did. Most IMPORTANTLY call your doctors. They are the professionals and should check/double check to see if there is a physical problem. Insist that they help you through this and do not let them dismiss this until you feel it is resolved.

Is that the 12 week presurgery classes - I did and I had a great follow-up phone call who gave me great advice of other health classes to help me before my surgery and the support groups. What do you need to know?

    Stricture?

No. I hope this gets resolved. I do not think you are alone I have heard folks having difficulties eating but not to the extreme as your situation.

    Emotional roller coaster

Hi Gina, I was blessed with my best friend who lives in another county - 21 miles one way coming daily the first week to check up on me and another good friend who did additional shopping of juices, popsicles, Dasani water and sports drink - I thought I had stocked up well but missed the mark. another friend made homemade veggie clear broth - 5/qts. I was in the hospital for 4 day - was suppose to be 3 days but they had to do 2 blood transfusions. I do not remember being emotional but extremely tired for 3 weeks. I did extensive bed rest and 3 /10 minutes walks in the backyard daily unitl the 4th week. I am not sure of those "jinormous headaches" - could be stress, nutritional deprivation, hormones or shock. Whatever it is be on continual contact daily or twice a day with your doctors - yes ALL of them. Its their job and you are their top priority. Also obtain psychological & psychiatric couseling your husband is your support but not a professional counselor. Crying is a favorite for me because of the release of emotional toxins. Prayer, deep breathing and meditation (I like OT Proverbs - I am a wisdom junkie). Comedy movies - ancient, old & new - laughter is a healing component too. BE ENCOURAGE & BE WELL.

    Post Op

I had a similar experience but only had to be on the liquid diet for 1 weeks. When I got to have a scrambled egg I was sooooooooo excited but it sat on my stomache like lead. This went on for another 4 weeks. Low-fat Cottage cheese, vegetarian refried beans, applesauce, cream of wheat and mash potatoes truly helped. I not good with plain yougurt I was told that canned chicken and tuna add low fat mayo was the best. Each food you have to introduce slowly and 1/8- 1/4 cup max. YOU HAVE TO DRINK AT LEAST 70 GRAMS OF PROTEIN to help with the meat cravings. I did eat a small slice of pizza during my 4th week when my daughter came home from college that weekend. Low Fat string cheese also is a treat. 4th week turkey, fish, lean chicken, shrimp & crab meat. Veggie and some fruit too. So hang in there.
  20. Good to know because 4 months out from my surgery I can eat 1/2 cup of veggies and meat together. Initially, during the 4th week when I was instructed to eat only 1/4 cup of the first list of food - I could only eat 2 oz. So now that I am eating the right portions size I worried about stretching my pouch back to the size I just had cut out.

    On the fence

I am having strong problems but still losing weight - I am a foodie/foodle and the mental battle is continual but I have to make this work. As for wondering about the sleeve compare to the band & by-pass - I have know people who have had not reach their weight loss goals. One person who had the band have only lost 20 pounds in 2 years - she has some family issues. I have meet a few people who have had problems with their "bands" and had to have repair surgery - the sleeve. It took me about 17 years to decided to have the surgery - and I am grateful because of the progress in this field of bariatric weight loss. If you have the time to review this lifestyle and think you can do weight loss tradtionally I say your decision to cancel is right on. I miss eating foods that are on the No-No list but medically I have to readjust my life.
  22. Okay will be working on my core - I am using a 15 pound kettlebell for my arms and will research using it for core too. Thanks for input.

    Dry Curly Hair

I agree with ShapeShifter to add in the fish oil tablets. Our eating lifestyle is dramatic and needs addtional nutritional help. I have not tried that product from Sally's - Ion Plus but will check into it. After YEARS of trying to find a way to keep my hair looking curly liken when I exit the shower. I developed a routine and my own combo. I would use a large tooth comb (shower comb from Sally's) comb my hair under the Water while showering ,blot dry once out of shower, combine Pantene's conditioner for women of color (GREAT DETANGLER) 2 dollops and 1 dollop of OG Blue Magic Hair conditioner. DO NOT COMB/BRUSH again. Spread through my wet hair and let it air dry. Needless to say I can only do this during the months of June - October (SoCal). In the colder months I used the same products but rinse out the Patene conditioner and 1 dollop of blue Magic and blow dry. I do a single braid down the middle...or let out the braid for the look in my profile pic. Its all about testing out what works for you plus having a few good friends and professional hairstylist for help/tips. This was me in my curly "Summer Hairdo" 2005 For some reason the "My Surgeon" is listed as Dr. Catari which is not true. I had Dr. David Suh.

    Dry Curly Hair

I used "mixed chicks" and for the money ($22.00 plu tax) you spend plus you have to add an additional product (Morracan oil - $$) I stopped using it and went back to my own creations of Pantene's conditioner for women of color (GREAT DETANGLER) and OG Blue Magic Hair conditioner = ~ $6.00.
  25. I had my surgery Oct. 3 2012 and have lost about 40 pounds so far. I have the pouch in the middle of my abdomen region( about 2-3 inches above my belly button) that at first seem to be shrinking but now it seems to be filling up again. Any suggestions for the middle section of the abodmen region?
