  1. Well I have totally lost the battle but not the war. I was doing okay until I noticed that my stomach was not reducing. I went to my family practitioner and she told me I had a hernia and since I am not having any pain or internal bleeding it is best to leave it alone. The problem is I have gone down a clothing size - I have to wear my pre-surgery tops because of the bugled in my stomach area. I begin to be very discouraged and started to gain my weight back. I went back to my Gastroenterologist /Bariatric Surgeon for a 2nd opinion - and thinking he would have more medical knowledge/experience. He focused on my weight lost status and not any helpful advice about my hernia - which is centered around the incision he did to remove my gallbladder. I figured he was worried because it is an "incision hernia". I am told I must lose 100 pounds before they will repair it or unless it becomes life threatening. So now that I have regained 2/3 of my weight loss and have start over again finding a program that can work for me. I am frustrated and I have come back to seek support and to get myself back on track.

I eat just about anything I want. There are repercussions - too much sugar or carbs causes my acid reflux to go off the charts and if I really binge - I vomit mucus. Which then goes into my lungs and I have to cough that out too. I do not binge that often at all. I can not go back to my surgical weight loss group - they have moved the classes out of my town to another medical facility but I will be searching for some type of local support. Thanks for letting me vent.

  2. For sure - call the doctor immediately! I have only vomited 3 times - each time I over did it ( I am a little hard headed) but ever since the surgery I have had HORRIBLE acid reflux - have tried 4 different meds. One thing that seem to trigger this was the diced garlic in the jar - I had to give that away which my daughter is thrilled with cuz I like a lot of garlic as seasoning. I was told that coffee was a no-no for a while and it had to be decaffeinated too. So that may have triggered things too. Most important CALL your doctor and get an appointment PRONTO!

  3. Acid reflux happens I went from pecid to my old prescription and now I am on Protonix - and its not working at least for these last 24 hours. I will call my bariactric doctor during morning hours of the office. Which is what my support group always say to do when a problem arise and you should do the same.

I was 3 months out from my surgery and have had massive Hair loss but not bald. Which according to my support group is normal. Make sure you are getting at least 300 - 3000 mcg of Biotin (check your multi Vitamin label) - also enough Protein, fluids and minimize stress ( was told to AVOID stress - not happening)

  4. Hi kimkai75,

I had similar story - about a year before starting Options classes I had lost 17 lbs. and then lost another 8 lbs. They did not want to factor in those 1st 17 lbs. but my body had already registered it and so did my mind. I had 3 make-up classes to do and lost another 2 lbs. Then gained 8 lbs waiting to hear if I was going to have the surgery. Then got the phone call from the follow-up social worker (he was WONDERFUL!) who gave me the advice for the bariactric support groups (which I thought I had to wait to go to after my surgery - no) and he got me scheduled to see Dr. Suh to start my surgery process. I did that no carbs diet for about a month before my surgery and lost another 12 lbs totalling 29 pound loss by surgery day. Keep at it doing that 1 -2 punds a week is a great goal to use. Looking forward in hearing about your progress - one bite at a time.

  5. GOOD to know - I would have never thought to worry about gagging hurting my sleeve procedure. O.T.R. Sleeve is 100% correct - guys love hearing that sound. Pinky Green's EMPOWERMENT notation is right on the money. Helgaready - you are my Heroine! Thanks for the tips.

  6. Initially I could not eat a scrabble egg - it just sat on my stomach. I was soooooo disappointed. what I had to do was measure out 1/4 cups of whatever I needed to eat 1/2 of that then wait 2-3 hours. Sipping on Water and then Protein Drink between. How thick is your cream of wheat - thin it out may help. I am doing so much better now. A couple of occasions I pushed it and had to wait it out as you did. Most IMPORTANTLY call your doctors. They are the professionals and should check/double check to see if there is a physical problem. Insist that they help you through this and do not let them dismiss this until you feel it is resolved.

  7. I am having strong problems but still losing weight - I am a foodie/foodle and the mental battle is continual but I have to make this work. As for wondering about the sleeve compare to the band & by-pass - I have know people who have had not reach their weight loss goals. One person who had the band have only lost 20 pounds in 2 years - she has some family issues. I have meet a few people who have had problems with their "bands" and had to have repair surgery - the sleeve. It took me about 17 years to decided to have the surgery - and I am grateful because of the progress in this field of bariatric weight loss.

If you have the time to review this lifestyle and think you can do weight loss tradtionally I say your decision to cancel is right on. I miss eating foods that are on the No-No list but medically I have to readjust my life.

  8. I agree with ShapeShifter to add in the fish oil tablets. Our eating lifestyle is dramatic and needs addtional nutritional help. I have not tried that product from Sally's - Ion Plus but will check into it. After YEARS of trying to find a way to keep my hair looking curly liken when I exit the shower. I developed a routine and my own combo. I would use a large tooth comb (shower comb from Sally's) comb my hair under the Water while showering ,blot dry once out of shower, combine Pantene's conditioner for women of color (GREAT DETANGLER) 2 dollops and 1 dollop of OG Blue Magic Hair conditioner. DO NOT COMB/BRUSH again. Spread through my wet hair and let it air dry. Needless to say I can only do this during the months of June - October (SoCal). In the colder months I used the same products but rinse out the Patene conditioner and 1 dollop of blue Magic and blow dry. I do a single braid down the middle...or let out the braid for the look in my profile pic.

Its all about testing out what works for you plus having a few good friends and professional hairstylist for help/tips.

For some reason the "My Surgeon" is listed as Dr. Catari which is not true. I had Dr. David Suh.

  9. I have crazy curly/kinky hair, it is long and it is fairly fine and dry dry dry. I stopped using Shampoo years ago (except after swimming in chlorine) - "wash" with a product that is more like a conditioner.

I use an amazing leave in conditioner/detangler called "mixed chicks" that I buy at Karin's beauty supply. I top it off with a tad of that Morracan oil. This has helped my hair alot. My hair is soft, but I get nice defined curls with no frizz

I lost alot of hair in this WLS process, my hair is actually now easier to manage as i think my hair was too thick before.

I used "mixed chicks" and for the money ($22.00 plu tax) you spend plus you have to add an additional product (Morracan oil - $$) I stopped using it and went back to my own creations of Pantene's conditioner for women of color (GREAT DETANGLER) and OG Blue Magic Hair conditioner = ~ $6.00.
