New guy here, you've GOT to read this!
outrigger42 replied to BigFrank's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks Frank! After your post I reconsidered and went to the surgeon today. My knees were knocking from anxiety. He spent almost 2 hours with me. I scheduled surgery for Feb even though he was willing to do me ASAP to quell my anxiety. I couldn't have done it without your post! -
Thanks for posting this. I cancelled my surgery because of all the complications of younger people on this site. I figured if they had trouble then what's going to happen to an old fart like me. My surgeon told me to really think about it because of my age (59)). I've only been overweight for 2years.(due to psych meds) and he wants me to try losing on my own. I wanted to slap him. If I could lose it, why would I be in his office. I ramble. Please keep in touch. It's so good to hear from another wisened people.

Pre-treating possible hair loss? Any options?
outrigger42 replied to HikeEveryMountain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start now. The biotin helps slow the loss and the Moroccan oil (Aragon oil) keeps the hair from getting dull. Plus it makes it grow. -

OMG I can't thank you enough! I cancelled my surgery after joining this site. Most posts are negative and ready to call in the lawyers. After your post I will reconsider. -

Good luck! I'm supposed to get sleeved about the same time as you. Can't figure out how to add you to my friends list. If you know how, add me to yours. You are probably wise to do the liquids. My surgeon is not very strict either. He did say it will make things easier because rapid weight gain comes from your stomach and makes visibility better. So I'm with you, going to do it. After reading all these horror stories, I figure do everything possible. It's great that you are excited. After joining this site and reading all the things that went wrong, I have been thinking about canceling surgery. One lady sent me a great support letter so I printed it off and look at it when I start to freak out. Like you I'm not telling anyone about the surgery. -

Questions after near death experiance in operating room?
outrigger42 replied to Kapoorvilla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please let us know what the outcome of your appointment is. I in no way meant to minimize your suffering. I was just shocked that you hadn't been made aware that this was a possibility during the informed consent. My insurance is Kaiser and they make us take a bunch of classes to be prepared for all the consequences of this surgery. They explained that we are at risk for bowel perforations because unlike normal weight people, our insides are covered with fat and make the instruments slippery. Put some tough scar tissue in there and the risk is higher. They also emphasized that all those bad things the surgeon tells us about are not to cover his behind but to help us make a choice if we want to take the risk. If your surgeon did something negligent then you certainly are entitled to compensation. If your complication was in the realm of risk maybe not. You at least deserve an explanation of what happened. -
I feel alone...

You are not alone. I just finished my 6 month diet and only lost 7 pounds! -
Really freaking out.

Glad to hear someone else has had those freaking out episodes. After reading all the complications on this site, I am having second thoughts and I haven't even met with my surgeon yet. -
Questions after near death experiance in operating room?
outrigger42 replied to Kapoorvilla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
IWilliams65, you really should talk to your surgeon. My friend had 3 previous surgeries and ended up in ICU because of a bleed. His surgeon however had warned him this might happen. He is doing great now and would do it all over again. Sorry for "resurrecting" an old thread. I missed the date. -

How aweful for you! I don't agree with the litiginous comments. Surely your doctor informed you of this possibility during the informed consent. Hope you recover quickly. -
Antidepressants & Weight Gain
outrigger42 replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained 80 pounds on Prozac and abilify with no change in diet. Changed psychiatrist an she changed me to Welbutrin. I'm already starting to lose weight. My question is, has anyone had the sleeve and not lost weight due to psych meds? I would hate to go through a life changing surgery and not lose the weight.
