  1. I'm in south Texas and I've been dreaming of refried beans. Tried them tonight, and didn't go so well. : ( Too bad my body didn't reject Mexican food years ago... Then I might not have this weight problem, lol!!!

    Would you do it again?

Yes I would!!! I do get frustrated when having problems figuring out what I can tolerate, or get weak easily. BUT then I remember how bad I felt ALL the time 50 lbs ago, how bad my food choices made me feel, and how horrible tight clothes feel. I am SO excited about what the future holds. Traveling, running 5 Ks with my sister, sharing clothes with my daughters, and shopping trips with my friends!!! Sleeved 12/10/12 and HAPPY !!!

..true amount of weight lost ?

I count from my heaviest. The weight I took off prior to surgery came off with a lot of hours on the treadmill and a strict diet. I earned every lost ounce!!

    Protein pudding

I found PB2 at HEB plus in Texas. They also sold PB2 with chocolate, so I bought both. Only $4.49 each.

    8 Day Post Op Visit

The doctor should test your stomach before they close in the OR. The upper GI aka barium swallow is a different test. I had one as a kid and I had to drink a bottle of nasty stuff, and it was a bad experience. So I was really worried having one post op. But here in Victoria it was no big deal. I had to take a couple of sips of two different things. I got to watch the test on the screen and see my new stomach. Everyone was super nice and it didn't even last 5 mins! Ask for your pain meds before you go down for the test. As a nurse I was glad to see it was all working before I started clear liquids!

    Liver diet?!

Yep I agree it's great. I can watch Cake Boss for hours and never even think of eating. I can even bake cookies for my kids without wanting to cheat. Pre Op I thought my stomach was going to jump out of my body and find its own food. Just remind yourself this is the last time in your life you will feel this way. No more hunger pains now!
  8. Be happy!!! Focus on how great you are going to feel as the weight comes off.
  9. I was sleeved on Dec. 10th & have lost 20 lbs (50+ since my first appt in July. I was told watching others eat and drink would be difficult this Christmas. Actually it wasn't bad at all. As I sat at the dinner table eating my small amounts of soft foods, I kept thinking about how all the people around me were going to feel after the meal and after the holidays. And how most of them would make New Year's resolutions to get rid of there extra pounds, that they may or may not ever loose. So instead of feeling sorry for my self, I was thanking God for this wonderful opportunity, and knowing weight loss resolutions are not needed for me. I have control, I feel great, and I am excited to see the results of my workouts and healthy eating that will last way past any new years resolution! Happy New Years and thanks for all the great info & support I get reading your posts!!

    Side by side!

    Wow!!! You look great!!
  12. I was told by my doctor and his staff I could be back teaching in a week. Then in surgery they found a hiatal hernia which made recovery harder (breathing hurts when out of breath, cough, etc). I was tooo weak at one week, and not sure how I would have been able to get all my shakes and water in had I gone back. Then magically on day 10 I felt like my old self again. Clear headed, strong, and ready for my new life. By day 12 I was cleaning out my closet of my BIG clothes. Everyone is different. Good luck and merry Christmas !!!!
  13. Wow I would be so honored that my mom followed my lead. I see it as a compliment.
  14. For years I've struggled with my weight. When women would suddenly drop weight and say it was their diet/ exercise routine it gave me false hope. Hope that I too could have the same drastic results by doing what they said they were doing, when in fact they left out the surgery part. I've been very up front with my family, friends, coworkers, and students. Yes I had to hear some try to talk me out of it. But I just listen politely and move on. I realized that my 300+ lb friends didn't want me to do this because they were worried others would expect them to have the surgery too. I am no more ashamed of this surgery than any other surgery I have chosen to have to fix other medical problems. I choose to be a role model. Not the easy choice, but neither was the choice to have this surgery.

    psych evaluation

I enjoyed my session. I learned alot about how I ended up in this shape, mindless eating, & importance of support. Nice to know I had someone to call if I needed a professional to talk to. Then I got a report in the mail outlining my strengths and what I needed to work on.
  16. I am 12 days post op. went to my daughters school Christmas party and was offered multiple times pizza, cokes, and desserts by parents who didn't know. As I sat and visited I just kept thinking of all the damage that food has done to me over the past 20 years. When that didn't work I reminded my self of the terrible stomach bug going around school , and how bad that would hurt if I caught that. I really want to take my girls to the movies but dread smelling popcorn and hearing slurping and munching.

    On the books for 1/30/2013!

Congrats !!! They changed my surgery date a week sooner the day they got my approval letter. My stomach started flipping and knotting with nerves and excitement up until they put me under!! Kinda of funny, as if my stomach was talking to me. Now there's not enough stomach to feel any excitement!!! Anyways was the easiest surgery I every had. Sore yes, diet YUCK, days off awesome, but all worth it. Good luck!!!

    post op for December 11th

I was sleeved on the 10th. Today was the first day I felt "normal". Can't wait to start soft foods on Christmas eve!!! Counting the hours. So sick of protein shakes. Because of the holidays I had my first appt early. Disappointed when my dr said no cardio for six months and must drink shakes between meals. YUCK. Lost 19 lbs in first 8 days. Miss my workouts, but I know my doctor knows best.
