I am so glad I came across this thread. I was about to shop for some smaller clothes just knowing that in 20 lbs or so I'll be in a size 14/16 but ummm I'll wait and just dig out the few things that I have that are in smaller sizes that hopefully I can fit...

I think it's not good for the healing process but some people have continued smoking afterwards and say they don't have any issues. So idk what my dr will say but I'll try to go along with the recommendations.

Wow you all have given me something to think about. I would like to stop for good. It is an expensive habit. My life is so stressful that its become my calming tool. I don't like taking meds so I think I'll try an electric cigarette. My boyfriend had one for two months and it helped him until it broke then he went back to smoking. If we try together maybe we'll be successful at kicking the habit. Thanks for all the advice!

Yes I did. It only had the price for the Plication. When I switched to the sleeve I didn't get any additional paperwork.

I'm scheduled for 1/21/13 and on the 7th will start pre op diet and no smoking. This I know will be extremely hard for me. I was able to refrain during 2 pregnancies with only a few slip ups on extreme stressful days (not proud!) so now I'm wondering what is the rule about smoking post up?

Today my mother and I got our passports! Monday I officially start my Pre-op Diet. I've been trying out the weight loss shakes trying to get used to drinking them. So far I've tried the Walmart Equate brand in chocolate. I actually like it. I'm going to struggle with stopping smoking. What is the rule about smoking post op?

Yes now I am. I was told 5000.00 for sleeve and 6500 for Plication. I forgot to include the 500 deposit so I'm actually paying 1500 more than originally quoted. But I don't have it in writing just my notes from my initial call to start the process.

My paperwork was specifically for Plication and that was the only price listed. I do feel better that others have the same price for both. Had I made the choice of the sleeve to start with I'd be paying 1000 less. It still seems like bad business to just change prices and so drastically all willy nilly. I'll just have to roll with it.

The website doesn't quote price. It's his own coordinator I think. I called the 800 # listed on his website.

Yes I've completed all the paperwork but it was for the Plication and had the higher price on it. I was prepared to pay the initial price and either way I've got to do this. I just hate being scammed. I see all the post from people who used Dr. Ortiz and I do feel its worth it. If I do get a chance to talk to him I for sure will let him know and maybe he'll care maybe he won't but in any case it's bad business.

But I paid my deposit 2 weeks ago and when I when I called to change the procedure she didn't say rates change. She denied ever telling me the other price. That's what has me concerned.

I'm scheduled with Dr. A Ortiz on 1/21/13. Initially I wanted the Plication procedure which I was told was 1000.00 more than the sleeve. After doing further research I changed my mind and called to switch to the sleeve. I was told then it was the same price??? I reminded the coordinator that I was quoted a different price not two weeks prior and she denied telling me so. Now I'm questioning what to do at this point. I want the procedure done and don't want to cancel but I don't want to now be scammed??? Has this happened to anyone?

I'm scheduled 1/21/13 in Mexico. I'm afraid of traveling to Mexico, not waking up, not losing enough or losing too much, complications, still not being happy with me, and changing into a different person.

Exactly! I have suffered from this for as long as I can remember! I've done the alcohol scrubs, betadine scrubs, to the extreme rock scrubs u know the one u use on ur feet! It is not dirt and does not go away. I have gotten it to lighten up but it comes right back. All the doctors and dermatologist I've been to all said "just lose weight and it will go away!" I didn't find out what it was until I did my own research and found Acanthosis. I can't even begin to describe the ridicule from family, "friends" making such ignorant and hurtful comments. And for someone who suffered with it too she should've known better!

No I'm going with my mother and brother. Why so many lol? My mom for my support but then she decided to have some dental work done while we're there so my brother will escort her to there. I'm a lil confused. My pre-op paperwork said to take any weight loss shake. I'm drinking the Equate chocolate from Walmart. But this would not be the same as the Protein Shakes that have to be consumed after surgery?

Wow that's great! I hope to have that type of results so quickly. Dehydration seems to be a common problem. I am searching all these blogs for all the different shakes and things that people are trying. I think I'm going to get a lil of everything just in case.
