  1. I was sleeved on December 5' date=' 2012 and I was weighing 202 pounds on the day of surgery. I had to go through a six-month weight loss program which I started at 227pounds In order to be approved By insurance. I would like to know if there's anyone else out there that started at this lower weight? It is sometimes difficult to compare yourself to people who started at a higher weight it seems like everything is slower.

  2. I was barely a 35 BMI' date=' which with my comorbidities, was enough to get insurance to cover. The doctor's office wanted me to "maintain" that weight until approved by insurance. I took that time to have a "wake" for all those foods that I would not be indulging in later. Once insurance approved me, I started eating sensibly, I'd already gotten tired of many of those foods. I wanted to shrink my liver before surgery, especially since my doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet, other that Clear Liquids the day before. I went into surgery on Dec 6, at 227.8. I'm now hovering around 215. I hope to be in onederland soon.

One advantage we have is that we can do more exercise sooner. If 600 lbs and confined to a wheelchair, you cant get up and run, we can at least walk. We wont lose as fast because we're not carrying around as much weight, but again, if a person weighs so much that they cant be ambulatory yet, we can burn more calories than them.[/quote']

That is very true, never thought about it that way.

Keep up the good work on your wl.

  3. Hi!

I was sleeved on 11/15 (one month tomorrow!) and I was 219' date=' today I am 201 so only 18 lbs. I'm very upset about it but it's better down then up. I just don't understand why I'm losing soooo slowly! I have PCOS, so that could be part of it, but fortunately the numbers are going down! I see my surgeon today and I'm hoping that his scale shows the same thing, but it's always about 3 lbs higher than my scale! :( Maybe he can explain to me why it's so slow for me and like many of you, I see folks losing 25+ the first week!

It's all good as long as the scale is going in the right direction![/quote']

My ins. Required me to do a 6 mos weight loss program. I started in march at 227 I was up and down between 200-202 before surgery, I only managed to lose about 26 lbs in 8 mos and I was working out. I really need this to work like you said as long as it is going down its a plus. On a regular basis a person should lose 2 lbs a week that would be 8 lbs and you more than doubled it. I think this will also help our skin catch up with our weight loss so we are not so flabby. Keep up the good work.

  4. Surgery was on Monday at 130. I had single site incision. Surgeon said it could take about an hour and a half to two hours. It ended up going much better than he planned and he was done in an hour fifteen.

I had a lot of swelling the next day in my tummy so much that I failed the leak test Tuesday morning.

I had the repeat test today and there was a lot of improvement but Fluid is still moving slowly.

I did get released tonight and have been home for about an hour.

Still pretty gassy and having some chest pain thay goes away upon belching.

Yesterday I had buyers remorse because I felt like **** and wanted something to eat.

But all in all I am doing really good. Moving around fine. Haven't really had any pain. I have one incision inside my belly button and then one that's not even an inch just below my sternum and to the right a little. That's where they held up my liver.

Glad to be home and resting here. My two years old is made at me for leaving her for four days :-(. But shell come around soon enough.

Hope all the newly sleeved are doing well!

Lol! I was wondering what that little one was since I had sils too, I was telling people thats where the camera went.

  5. Hi, everyone today has been a tough day for me, I feel as if I was a few weeks or months pregnant smells in the air bother me so much and I have such bad nausea. I can't keep Down the whey Protein the smell really, really bothers me. Since it is my second week I started drinking some Atkins shakes which I have to take very slowly and according to what the doctor wants me to consume I would have to take four of these containers and so far and it's 7:40 pm at night and I haven't finished one.

  6. I was also sleeved on Decmber 5th. Weighing 222. I know its not as low as you but its in the low 200's.

Everyone looked at me like what are you doing here, but there was much more going on physically and mentally. I may not be as big as a lot of people who get this surgery but I am definitely obese. I hope to get rid of so many ailments, medications, depression and over all feel better about myself.

  7. Hi Ginny!

I'm not scheduled to be sleeved until Feb 18th but my current weight is 219. I'll be happy with any loss' date=' even if it's slow. I've been maintaining ~220 for the last 10-15 years, hope to get to and maintain a much lower weight! :)[/quote']

Well, I am happy that I am losing, I have been up and down my whole life. My highest was 227 and it happened in a blink of an eye. I hope this tool that I have been given will help me lose, keep losing and keep it off. I hope to hear more from you.

  9. I finally told my youngest son. His reply was "you're not fat' date=' mama..." & "but what will you look like?!?" I'll tell my oldest son maybe tomrw...if he didn't already hear it from the lurks guy. (they've been @their dad's since Friday)

If only everyone had your sons mentality. Lol! I am the biggest one in the family that my kids see and they all eat more than me :-(. To my youngest son I am medium. The day I came home he hugs me and says " mom you feel lighter" lol! I had only lost 5 lbs.

  10. Just wanted to give an update. My surgery was on nov. 20th. They kept me an extra night because i had really bad gas pain and wouldn't let me have any fluids until the pain subsided. I went home on thanksgiving morning. Wow' date=' what a weird thanksgiving that was for me and my family :)

My weight loss was going great, about a pound a day for about 10 days, then suddenly it stopped. For about the next 2 weeks the scale didn't move. It actually went up a pound. I started obsessing and would weigh myself multiple times a day. I had a break down yesterday and cried to my fiancé. I told him to hide the scale from me and to only let me weigh myself once a week.

I am trying to now focus on how I feel, how my clothes fit, and making sure I'm following my nutrition plan.

I've also realized that this new life is more mental than not. Telling myself that I'm not hungry, making sure I don't eat things I'm not supposed to, knowing that if I have. "one more bite" that I'll feel like crap for a while.

Anyone else have any struggles/ suggestions/ tips for people who were recently sleeved?

Also, I know that stall are all part of the "journey" but what doesn't make sense to me is how I'm only taking in 600 calories a day and not losing any weight, where is my body getting the calories to function?

Anyway, there's my rant. Any advice is always appreciated, love hearing from you!!![/quote']

Im going crazy and its not even my 1st full week. Still on my clear liquid diet 5th day post-op, no change in 2 days. I think its also because we are comparing ourselves with people who lose more and quicker but they started at a heavier weight. We must be patient lol! Stress is not going to help thats for sure.

  11. My thoughts are with you, everything happens for a reason take it one step at a time. You mentioned that all the cancer is gone and the chemo is basically so the chances of it coming back are cut in half. I would definately have the chemo first from what I have seen people tend to gain weight during their treatments and it has nothing to do with how they eat. If you have wls then your chemo, you may feel dissapointed that you do not lose weight and you would have done it for nothing. Take all you have learned about how to eat & how much to eat and start losing without the surgery, then once you have gone through all your therapies you will be in a stronger place to succeed with the wls.

I wish you the best of luck.

  12. What if every attempt to drink Protein drinks..you get sick from.......i have been going thru stuff with protein' date=' i am 3 weeks out and on soft foods.......what if your body is rejecting the Protein drinks.[/quote']

I have found that the New whey shots are great and they stay down they give you 42 grams of protein per bottle. I drink half a bottle of Water then pour the whey protein in so it is not as sweet. It ends up like flavored water. There are many brands out there so far i have tried New Whey and to go protein which has 28 grams of protein and not as sweet. I got these a cvs and walgreens. I truly hope this helps.

  13. Hi my fellow December sleevers! I had my surgery on 12/5 and got home from the hospital the afternoon of 12/7. Like others have said' date=' the first day in the hospital was a blur; the second day there was a bit of pain and a lot of nausea; and the third day I was feeling good and ready to go home. I've been doing really well getting my fluids in today, but am falling short on Protein. I hear that is pretty normal so soon after surgery. My only real complaint is gas and bloating. Killing me. Just like I've read on this forum a million times, walking is the key to getting rid of it. The more I walk the better I feel. So excited to be on the losers bench! Glad to hear everyone else is doing well too!!! Let's do this![/quote']

This is my story dates and all. Gotta do more walking. I think I will go shopping with hubby till I cant tolerate it anymore. Lots of luck!

  14. I just turned 35 on December 7 I had my sleeve on December 5 my husband was really unsupportive but we have to do what we can to feel better about ourselves And become healthier people for our families. If your insurance is approving you and you can do it,do it if your husband Doesn't want to miss work he will find a ride. Sometimes we just have to do what we can and work with what we got. When you have lost all the weight you will not regret it.
