  1. Hey I'm wondering how anyone feels about losing so much stomach. What if someday SOON doctors come out with another surgery and its much better then VSG where they won't have to remove 85 % of your stomach? I'm scared of feeling like OMG I could've waited , why didn't they say something about it? Why ? Why? Why? I'm just wondering because medicine is always advancing and coming. Out with new things and I wouldn't want to regret MY VSG . Thanks

    Bronx ny, montifiore hospital rny

I guess everything can't be perfect. Montifiore seems like a good hospital. I think they just have way too many patients. I think they need to slow down a bit on that. It's hard with all the obesity issues in ny and montifiore gets a lot of patients that have been referred by others that had they're surgery there. Happy you are on your way to a healthier you. I know the process might not be what you would imagine it to be but who really knows that? Only the ones that have gone through it. Not even the surgeons know. They only can tell you how it may feel and how things may go after surgery. My process has been long cause I stopped at the end of all tests and weight management because of switching jobs and not having insurance. Now I have insurance and trying to continue where I left off. Hoping that I can finish the process this time. let's see what happens. I finished my 2 support groups, and I have an appointment with doctor choi August 26 , last nutri app August 20th let's see what happens.. ????

    3 days out of surgery

So glad to hear your good and well and that doc choi is great! I wanted to ask you, during pre-op did they do an endoscopy and colonoscopy on you? DR. Choi advised me to have RNY but I would like vsg. Why did u decide to get RNY vs vsg?

So glad to hear that your almost done. Well my story is a little different. I started my testing and seeing doctor choi last year and i did all my testing but never finished the process because I switched jobs and insurance. So now I have Medicaid with metro plus. I have to speak to AJ tomorrow thought about my support letter. I think she said I have to go to the seminar and two support groups and provide a pcp support letter. It's all crazy but hopefully I'll get it done before September. I'm scared. I've never had surgery so you can imagine how I feel. ????

  12. Hi everyone! I'm very close to the end of my WLS process and my surgery coordinator said that all I'm missing is medical clearance from primary doctor , weight chart for last 5 years and a new bariatric referral because the one I had expired a month ago. Now I called in the referral but I'm wondering what tests are done for medical clearance by primary doctor and what happens when my regular primary doctor leaves the clinic and is replaced by a new doctor? does the new doctor fill out all my clearance paper work? I'm confused
  13. Hey everyone Im so close to the end of the wls process and I'm having doubts once again. I was thinking that I've never really given myself a chance to lose weight on my own. Like. I've cut down on eating the wrong foods and exercised here and there but I've really haven't gone on a "real" diet and I'm worried if I'm making a bad decision on having WLS. They always say the you wls is the last resort if you have tried numerous diets before and they haven't worked but I feel like being 5'3 weighing 320 will be very hard to lose on my own. Any advice ?

Scared this might be a mistake

Hi everyone, thanks so much for all your advice. Im 38 years old and pretty much been overweight/obese my entire life. When I said I haven't given myself a chance I meant I really haven't gone on a strict diet ever. I've cut out junk food and soda and was going to the gym 3 times per week and lost 15-20 pounds but with pms and stress I would end up gaining the weight back. I was 260 pounds in 2000 and now I'm at 320-324 . I don't know if my bodies against me losing weight. I'm so confused. I just felt that if I have been overweight/obese my entire life that I should just get the surgery and that's it but now that I'm close to the end of the whole process , I'm having second thoughts and scared. I feel losing 85 percent of my stomach forever is a lot and not knowing what can happen after surgery scares me a lot. It's like there's no guaranty that my body will accept the changes. my mom keeps asking me if I called the hospital and if I've gotten a surgery date and I don't know what to say. I know I should let anyone force me into having surgery but my family has backed me up 100 percent because they want to see me happy. I also feel that if I decide on jot getting surgery right this minute that the whole process , co pays , testing etc was a waist of time. I'm just a mess
  15. How many week did u gave to take for recovery?
  16. I just finished all my pre op tests and I'm feeling the same way. I'm scared out of my whits! I was fine during the process now I'm like.. OMG it's almost time! I'm doubting , I'm worried what can happen while I'm under the anesthesia , worried what can happen after surgery. I started out trusting my surgeon now I'm like worried about if she's a good surgeon , if everything will be Alright. I'm terrified of surgery but I'm also terrified if what can happen and how my life will be if I don't get this surgery.

    Thighs

Did anyone have thunder thighs before surgery? How do they look now after surgery? I'm wondering if I'll lose weight in my thighs. ????
  18. So my surgeons Dr choi from montifiore and she seems like a very very honest straight to the point doc. She's never had any law suits , people ice spoken to that have had surgery with her say she's great and their doing great with their WLS . She works with doc camacho & valupani. Now I was doing some research on the other 2 surgeons that work with my surgeon and found out one of them had 4- lawsuits and 1 wrongful death. Now my surgeon hasn't had any lawsuits but her colleague has , should I be worried? And now I'm scared of being that 1#
  19. I was cleared for surgery by my pulmonary doc but feeling kinda confused as to why he didn't send me to get a sleep test. He did ask if anyone has ever told me that I stop breathing while sleeping and no one ever told me until I was talking about it with my boy friend and he said out of no where "yea I think a couple times I've seen you kinda stop breath for seconds." Ugh! Why didn't he say this before???? Lol anyway.. I feel that I may have it but now I'm cleared by pulmonary for surgery. He said my breathing looks normal. He also gave X-ray test of my chest and it came back fine so now I'm confused about having the sleep test or not. If my breathing results look fine should I still get a sleep study test? Help me out here today was my last pre op appointment

    scared of being that 1%

Thanks for your advice. My surgeon hasn't had and lawsuits or deaths its jut that finding out that she works with another surgeon that's being sued not once but 4 times and one of them is for wrongful death, worries the hell outta me. Ughhh I hate playing the doubting game

    EKG vs Stress Test

I'm just wondering why everyone's having different test done before surgery. Why are some having stress test and others EKG? I had EKG done two days ago and now I'm looking at some pics of pre op patients having stress test done and not EKG. It kind of worried me why the stress test wasn't done on me . I was actually cleared for surgery by my cardio but why not a stress test? I didn't think of this when I was at my appointment but now I am. What if they missed something? My cardio doc said I have a very low risk of heart failure during surgery. Anyone know why some cardio doctors do stress test and others EKG?
  24. What should I take to the hospital the day of surgery? Anyone know?
