  1. My BMI has gone from 36.2 to 27.0. Unfortunately, I tore my ACL (well - partial tear) in October - so it slowed me down. I am now back to working out and back on track. I have 20 - 25 pounds left to lose.
  2. I started walking on day 2 and have not stopped since - well unless I got a partial tear of my ACL last October. That one definitely slowed me down. I am now back to running/playing soccer/tkd. The important part is to listen to your body. If it hurts - back off and don't do as much. I would have pain on day - back off on how fast I was walking. The next day, I was fine. My biggest advise is to listen to your body.

    Regret

Honestly - only in the beginning. The first few days I had a lot of second thoughts. By day 7 - I started feeling better. My surgery was December, 2013. My only regret now is that I didn't do it sooner. I have a whole new world! whole new life!
  4. I eat one small banana a day. I work out a lot so the potassium does me good. However, I can't eat more than that. They really fill me up. It has 90 calories and 23 grams of carbs.. but they are at least the good carbs.

I had that issue. I play soccer 3 days a week, do tkd 4 days a week, krav maga 2 days a week before surgery. I now added running a 5k 3 days a week. I started with needing to lose 80lbs - surgery was dec 13th and I have lost 58 lbs!! I have never stalled more than a week and a half. I am way ahead of my dr predictions - I think because I am so active. It jas been awesome. Bad part - I keep going thru cloths. You will do great! Follow the meal plan anf stay active!

Sleeved May 15 and Regretting it

We can be your family. Is your dad overweight ( does he understand what it does to the body and mind? I am very lucky with my support system. I regretted it for about the first week. After that - it is the best thing I have ever done. I was sleeved on Dec 13th - I have lost over 55 lbsand have less than 25 to go. sleep apnea - gone. Incontinence - gone. Migraines - virtually gone. Mood swings - pretty darn stable. Tendonitis in knees and ankles - gone. Running a 5k 3 days a week and had the best tkd tournament of my life. I look awesoome and people constantly comment. This includes people I hardly know. Hang in there - it is so worth it. Then - make your Dad pay you the money!!! We are here for you!

    United Health Care Waiting Game

Congrat ladies!! It will be like a whole new life. It is a lot of work but it is awesome. I am 5 months out - lost over 55 lbs and I have less than 25 left. I am a new me. All of your battles and tears will pay off!!!! Praying for y'all!
  12. I feel guilty! Y'all are way more deservimg than me and Aetna approved me without any hassel. However, I think the ladies that deal with the insurance at the dr office were awesome. They told me what I would need and we got it done. I only had one little curve ball at the end. Hang in there. I have prayers and confidence the appeal will work. Your doctor should go to bat for you!! Everyone let me know what happens.

    All of my December sleevers...

How are my December sleevers doing? Thought I would provide an update - Date of Surgery: 12/13/2012 Starting weight: 195 Day of surgery: 188 Today (5/24/2013): 139.4 Goal weight: 115 In another few pounds, I will no longer be considered overweight by the numbers (BMI anyway) This has been an incredible journey. My medical issures are gone (no sleep apnea, incontinence, migraines are at a minimum, knees and ankle inflammation - gone) My last TKD tournament was the best ever. I took first in forms (which has never happened - I seldom ever place), 3rd in weapons, 2nd in sparring, 2nd in combat sparring, 1st in Creative weapons and 1st in XMA weapons. There were several comments about my quickness, speed and energy. It was amazing. When I place soccer, I am running all over the field. People I have played against that I hardly know talk about how great i look. As far as referring soccer, I got a hug from the head accessor. He was so impressed with my movement. In the sections for needs to improve/areas of concerns he put "None at this time" = that never happens. This summer my daughter and I are going for a Grade 7s. Bring on the fitness test!!! This surgery has given me my life back. Since I am now single after 24 years - bring on the world! I want to say thank you to my fellow December sleevers. Your comments and posts have kept me going. When I had doubt or wanted to give up, I read other posts!! Come on December sleevers - we got this!!!!

    Denied by atena!

I have Aetna as well - they approved mine. However, with my BMI only being 36.1, I had to have sleep apnea to be eligible. I actually had severe sleep apnea. Hopefully your doctor has some great people to work with insurance. Keep the faith!

    Stressed Out and Overwhelmed

I forgot to add - my BMI was 36.1 - but it is amazing now to realize how much that weight was affecting my life!

    Stressed Out and Overwhelmed

I used to get I wasn't that big. I wear my weight well. Let me tell you, I have lost over 55 lbs and have 25 to go... It is a whole new me. No more sleep apnea, incontinence, hurting knees and ankles, migraines are minimized, mood swings are down... best decision I ever made!!! There was a discussion on this board about telling others. Some keep it very private and some don't. I am pretty much an open book - besides, people are going to know you did something when you start looking awesome. Plus, if I can help anyone else who has struggled with weight the way we have, it is worth it. To me, I would rather spent $350 on something else than labs! My boss was awesome bout the appointments before and after. He really wanted me to be healthy. I was so lucky in that respect. He checks on me all the time to see how i am doing. He even commented in our last meeting about how high energy I am (I was before but now it is ridiculous). I just prioritized my appointments and got as many of them as early in the day or late in the day. My therapist really worked with me as well. Tell you stomach to be quiet and let the brain work. You got this!

    Pre surgery struggles

Hang in there - it will get better and easier. I am 5 months out and have a whole new life! It is amazing. It will be well worth it. Keep us informed.
  20. Your stomach is really swollen. You will be able to get less down of thick liquids. You are so limited to what you can do. To get enough in you, it must be thin. It will get easier but I would really stick to the plan. To me - puree was the worst stage. Good luck!
