6th Month Bandiversary and I Did It!

Amazing! You are a true inspiration!
  2. I went to a support group at my doctors office this week. It's led by a nutritionist and a nurse. Everyone was talking and the question came up about how much we should be eating. The nurse that leads the group said that the pouch hold about an "egg" size amount of food. She gave cc's and all that, I thought that we could eat 1/2 to 1 cup at a sitting. If the pouch is only the size of an egg, it seems unlikely that we could get enough into our systems. I am confused. I can eat more that an egg sized amount of food, I feel satisfied, but am not losing that quickly. Should I be getting another fill and eating less? I wonder if I am eating too much or perhaps my pouch is too big?

    Pouch Size??? Confused!!

Alexandra, I was sitting across the room from you with my friend. I thought this group was better than the 1st one I went to 2 months ago. (you weren't there for that one) I hope they get a bigger room. I find it helpful-I kind of wish they had it more often. After the surgery I felt kind of "out there alone" I guess I was a little surprised at the egg size idea. I thought I had more space, maybe that's why when I eat I look at the amount and see that there really isn't much there but apparently there is enough. I am still trying to learn that many times my eye are bigger than my stomach. I haven't lost anything in the last 3 weeks. I know that we are looking for a better way and it's not all about the numbers. But...I kinda need the visual of the scale going down.

    Ahh, some relief!

Excellent. Sometimes it takes a while for our bodies to make the adjustment to the adjustment. Keep up the good work!

    alcohol tolerance

I know what you mean, I had a glass of wine a few nights ago and felt really happy.I thought, why not have another, well, that was about all I can remember. Ended up throwing the 2nd glass down the sink. Glad I did. Before the band and healthy eating I would have finished the bottle.

    Am I too tight?

Right after my first fill I felt the same way, it is now 3 weeks later and things are much better. When I first got the fill It took a while to drink my a.m. coffee. It takes time to re-adjust your habits. I had to slow down and take really small bites. I thought maybe I was too full then I reexamined my way of eating. It really is a lot less food. It also takes longer to finish a meal.

    Question for July Bandsters

I was banded in July, I have lost a little more than 35 pounds (like 36) I had some pain swallowing right after a fill, The problem seems to have retified itself, chewing seemd to save all.I also had to change my habits and not drink with meals, that was really hard! I have started exercising and that seems to help. As far as the port goes, I can sleep on my stomach. Sometimes it's a little sore. Some times I still have a little irritation at the port site. But overall it is bearable. Things are going really well, I think that most of the problems I am having are behavior modification that I will continue to work at. I get the hiccups, that is uslully my sign that I am full, they don't hurt, I use them as a signal.

    1st fill 2cc ???

I know what you mean, I feel tighter at different times of the day. Sometimes in the morning and sometimes at night. Remember to eat slow. I had to learn that the hard way. When I eat too fast, i get pain and 2 times I have had everything come back up.

    Coffee???

I drink 2 large mugs of regular coffee a day. When I went to the pre-surgery dietician, she told me that a cup or two would be OK. She just didn't want me drinking too much. I don't know that I could start my day with decaf, i need that jolt early in the morning. I tried to sustitute decaf for the 2nd cup but was getting terrible headaches, wasn't worth it.

    Am I too tight?

I am not hungry. I am getting all protien in. I have to take almost an hour to eat dinner. The first few bites are down right painful, some times it feels like something is stuck but then i get up and walk around and then it seems ok, i can continuing eating.I have thrown up 2 times but I think it is because I ate too fast. I think it's ok but because I have never had a fill before I am unsure of what it should feel like. Should it take me so long to eat? Should it hurt? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Anyone Have Nightmares Before Surgery

THe nicotine patches can cause vivid dreams, I remember when I used them. The dreams were unbelievable! You are concerned about the surgery and the smoking (or should I say anti-smoking patches) could possibly make them worse. Just a thought.

    new in NJ

Hi- I had Dr. Abkin as my doctor, he was wonderful. I was really scared and he put my mind at ease. I researched and talked to people and everyone that I spoke to had great things to say about both Dr. Abkin and Dr. Bertha.

    October Chat

Of course it counts as winning, anytime you walk away with something you didn't have before you win.Kind of like the band except you want to walk away with less. Interesting anology if you think about it.

    Looking for July 2005 bandsters!

I am down 32. I haven't lost anything in the last week, I know that I need to step up or should I say start an exercise program. I had a fill about 2 weeks ago and I have significant restriction. I have some problems with eating too fast, it seems if I go slow I am ok.

Weight Loss Surgery and Back Pain

Who would have thought. It is good to know. Did they give you an indication as to how long it would take to see a difference?

    Is this Right?

I had my first fill about 12 days ago. The doctor did it under the flouro.. I stayed on liquids for about 1 1/2 days. I can eat but the first several bites kind of hurt. I have decreased my food consumption a lot! My real question is how do I know if I am too tight? I can drink, actually gulp water or any other kind of liquid. If I eat too much I am in pain. I actually stop eating at this point but it never seems like it is very much food. But then again if I knew how much to eat I wouldn't have had to get the band.

    Is this Right?

You are right, I started eating really slow, the rest of the family will be done and cleaned up before I am finished. I get full relatively fast ( small portions) but I am OK with that. I don't know that I have ever felt full before, not Thanksgiving full, but satisfied. I am thrilled! I cannot believe how fast the weight is coming off. I haven't been this low in 5 years and then it was only briefly. This is exactly what I needed.Thank you for all your help everyone.
