Any Phen-Fen folks out there?
IndioGirl55 replied to JRT Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was doing phen fen when they pulled it off the market - but my doc only had me taking one of the phen pills and not more like alot of drs were. (he said that's what the problem was that dr's were giving their patients like 3 of the little orange pills with the diet pill) But I was called in to participate in a study to see if it had damaged my heart and they did the echo - My heart was fine. But I never lost much weight doing diet pills cuz as long as I was taking them I wasn't eating and then I wouldn't take them then eat enough to make up for the days that I didn't eat :w00t: But did love the energy level they provided..:tongue2: I had to have an echo before surgery just as part of the pre-op test due to my age.. -
Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Teri How are your knees holding up on the treadmil?? I have gotten on the bikes at the gyms and omw - you don't burn as many calories on them as you do on the treadmil - BUT again I only had it on the easy level - you ride a mile and burn like 24 calories - you walk a mile its 100 calories on the easy level... I am all about burning up those freakin calories - I now have my incline minimum 3 and increase up to 6... Burn caloires burn - that's my new motto... -
Stuck food result in band open
IndioGirl55 replied to asenft's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Being stuck USUALLY doesn't require a doctors intervention. Stuck means 2 things (well my experience) you have eaten something too fast or taken too big of a bite &/or haven't chewed well enough. You get a feeling of a golf ball in your chest - sometimes it goes down by itself you will have the pain for a few minutes and then other times your body will produce saliva to try to work the stuck object down your tummy -ie sliming and if that doesn't work then your body is going to expel the food ie pbing.. There are pple here who have more medical technical language for this - but this is the best that I can explain it You can chew papaya enzymes too to help meat that is stuck to help it soften so that it will go down too.. I haven't ever used them but have Friend who does - my sticking episode only last a few minutes... But I have read were ppl are in pain for a hour... -
Girl you are doing a 10 minute mile - you are almost running - you are in shape Gas here is like $3.69 to $3.84- but we do have some stations that are $4  I have a Chrysler 300 with a hemi - so you know I am crying the blues - but I can't see getting a smart car - cuz it's so freaking tiny if you hit a cat in the road you most likely would be dead and car totalled.. This weekend is the Coachella Fest - and I bet the Shell up on the exit is over the $4 mark - We are hearing that it's going to be like $5 by the end of the summer...

oh Beth - I was going to answer you - to tell you that i don't know the answer :w00t: Did you use the search feature and type in pork chops in the food thread?? How about adding a can of Campbell's Healthy Request soup to it??? Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken...

I'm here - this is where I frickin live :w00t: it's my life blood I run around LBT spewing my yadda yadda yadda - especially when I am hungry and want to avoid eating... Watch out the food cop is on patrol:lol: - OMG I am feisty tonight.. I would say that my 2nd fill took about 2 weeks to fully settle... Plus you are under a little stress too. Are you taking pencil eraser size bites and eating slowly and chewing really super well... This is what I mean - to me a couple of bites is just not enough - mentally I will still be hungry and physically too - I do have to say even fat my body would crave nutrient foods too.

I only had 7 days pre op but 2 of those where Clear liquids cuz I had a colonoscopy on 7/13 and then the day before surgery was clear liquids only. I didn't like the opitfast - I was suppose to do oatmeal, shake, Soup and 2 bars - they only had tomatoe soup when I went (my doc provides the preop diet) it was AWFUL - - I called and asked can I have a small piece of fish and salad for dinner - and they said yes. I would have NEVER made a week on that awful soup for dinner.. - so I did do oatmeal - shake - small high Protein dinner and the snack bars that were actually pretty good. Good Luck..

No offense taken Brandy.. Yep I still smoke - but it's about 1/2 pack a day - so I am not a full fledge addict - just a part timer - you know like - Oh I am not an alcoholic cuz I only drink beer and not the hard stuff - Yep justifications - denial - but I still enjoy it... I will quit one of these days.. -
CONGRATULATIONS YOU GOT A DATE

Thanks Mariah - Just goes to show you that if you do the work that is required the band does work - even for an old fart like me  -
3rd fill last week some restriction but not enough
IndioGirl55 replied to andielmt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Andrea Are you full after you eat a WW meal?? When you say breadstick are you talking about the ones that are like pretzels or the kind from olive garden (real bread) how much salad did you eat and what kind of dressing. How may calories are you consuming in a day?? For me personally - I want to eat more than 1/4 or 1/2 cup per meal - IMHO eating only 1/2 cup 3 x day is not healthy. This is a lifetime lifestyle change in our eating - its the combination of eating healthy (low fat - low sugar) and the restriction the band provides by making you feel fuller on a smaller quantity of food and adding exercise into your life. Weight loss is all about calories in vs calories burned - if you are consuming more than you are burning then the weight isn't going to come off. You say cuz you have done so well in the last 9 days that you ate 2 breadstick & salad - was this a reward for doing so good. There are theories out that that your body goes into starvation mode if you don't get enough calories - I am not a nutritionist or scientist - so I can't debate that - but for me if I vary my calories - say 950 today and 1100 tomorrow and 1000 the next day - I do ok. I keep a food diary and track my calories and Protein grams and log my exercise - again which has been a very big part in my success too. I have been truly bless cuz I have had a lost every week since I started this journey (well except for 1 and I didn't gain stay even) Suggest - write down what you are eating - the amounts and calories and then total them every night - do that for a week and go back to exercising and see if it helps get the ball rolling again. Good Luck.. -

laniayala Am I getting this right you are 38 and 127 and can't do 15 minutes on the treadmill?? Are you eating properly??? What speed are you walking at &/or incline? I could only do 15 - 20 minutes when I 1st started and weighed 250 but now I do 1 hr 3 miles varies between 3.0 to 4.0 speed and inclines 1 to 6 and I'm 164 lbs 53 yrs old and smoke.. - I listen to my Ipod and jam to my tunes as I walk - heck I even jogged/ran for a 1/4 mile yesterday.. I would ck w/your doctor - cuz in my unlicensed doctor opinion I think you should be able to do more that 15 mins.. -
Hey Gang It's my rest night too - I am not exercising - I will go in the morning before my hair appointment at 9 a.m. Jackie 6 friggin miles - becareful that you don't burn your self out - how long does it take you to walk 6 miles???? My 3 wears me out - but I forget I am old enought to be your Mom too.. Karri - for your running shoes are VERY important - so be prepared to spend the $$$ - they will protect you feet - joints etc.. Phyl - how cool a new scooter  well pretty soon you won't need one at all.. Steph - my scale is just a cheapie from target too- I want one that shows like .02 of a pound lost - mine only shows .5 Nothing to report I am hungry though - most likely just thristy cuz I have only had 1 bottle of Water - I better go get a glass to drink while I am setting here on the computer.. Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
IndioGirl55 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Carol Yep I ended up staying an extra night in the hospital cuz of the gas - really could have gone home around six but when the doc came to release me at noon - i was in too much pain to go home like that. Port site hurts/discomfort really the longest - I think a week or 2 - I didn't wear anything tight around my waist - I did the 1st day back to work (day 6) but after that dresses.. I had 10 days full liquids then mushie then soft then regular - heck my diet is mostly soft now : Just ck out the food thread for ideas .. Glad to hear you survived Welcome to Bandland... -
I had some discomfort at my port site (had to wear dresses not tight pants) but nothing that equated to real pain that i would need actual pain meds for.. If you are in that much pain - I would go in and see your doctor.

Terri - You are doing great - 14 lbs in 4 wks that 3.5 a week  Congratulations:biggrin2: - Good to hear you are exercising too  Lynn I think I was eating like 1 to maybe 2 cups before my 1st fill (1/2 c rice and 4 oz fish and one cup veggies ) I am a person who needs to feel full - so I eat until I have that full sensation.. My biggest problems still - is that I want to continue to eat even when I feel full. I do stop - but if there is still food on my plate or if I haven't eaten my veggies - (I am bad - I eat my protein 1st then my startch then my veggies) i sort of feel (mentally) that I haven't eaten enough. I hope you get what I am trying to say - I eat off of sandwich plate and a little one cup bowl. Restriction (feeling it) is that full sensation - at least for me it is... Also feeling restriction will depend on the kinds of foods you are eating - hard proteins or slider foods. PROPS to you for the 15 lbs post op - yes you are doing wonderful Both you and Teri should be very proud of yourselves - you ladies are doing a great job - I would say alot better than your younger counter parts. But we know that's cuz we are so much smarter than those young whipper snappers  Keep up the good work ladies...:tt2: I -
This was around before the 80's - I did this in grade school in the 60's:lol: Egor - I want them to bring Disco back !!! I had ton's of fun

Reading a lot of negative feedback, any regrets?
IndioGirl55 replied to AMLP's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No regrets here !!! As to losing fast or slow - it depends on the person and how much they chose to work their band - (meaning food choices & exercise) I have lost 86 lbs in 9 months - that's pretty damn good for an old fart like me. Good Luck ... -
Which celebrity do YOU think needs the Lap Band?
IndioGirl55 replied to **pink**'s topic in Rants & Raves
We are all entitled to our opinions - Food is an addiction - adverstion therapy works for some  - Some addicts recover and some don't -
Becky We all were scared and a little doubtful before surgery - Heck I am still scared - just cuz I have been banded and am almost to goal - doesn't mean that I won't gain it all back and then some. I KNOW that for me this will be a lifetime battle - but that with the help of my band I WILL WIN THE WAR !!!! Good Luck...

OMW - ALL MORNING GOT THE MESSAGE SITE DOWN FOR MAINTANENCE.. I was going crazy - I had to do some actual work this morning  Phyl - Global Crisis - yes without the internet where would we be Ruby - OMW you remembered that much of your dream - Lately I don't/can't remember mine.. It was a sign of your determination  Jackie - Well when I got home from work I weighed 164 - so since it was still my weigh in day - I took that number - If nothing else just to make me feel better.. Now lets see where I am next week - but I was so pissed off yesterday - I had no problem eating on the lite side - I am suppose to be eating oatmeal for bf - but that has 160 cal so I had yogurt & stawberries (fresh) for a total of 100 c - so I saved 60 calories and didn't eat any popcorn last night - but the real reason was that I didn't eat dinner until like 9:30 ish and then went to bed... I was wound up pretty tight last night for some reason - I was blasting off post to the newbies about their band - you know me on my soap box - will power etc.. I have a headach this morning - don't know why - maybe cuz i am working too hard... Ok - I got my fix - I was able to talk to my girls - so as usual - CBL :tt2:

5 weeks, 3 fills, NO restriction! Is my band a dud?
IndioGirl55 replied to LiseSeattle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shell The band really doesn't stop the urge to eat another bite - that's mental not physical... I have that urge nightly - I have eaten my dinner and am full - I still want to eat. This is why I keep repeating and repeating - there is a lot of head work that needs to be done in addition to being banded. You can totally eat around it.. Good luck on your next fill.. -
That's what I get for speed reading :rolleyes2: You are suppose to be protective of your Man... Ok I am not going to want to get up in the morning - I have been on this computer ALL NIGHT.... Sweet dreams - I gotta turn it off and not ck my subscribed threads anymore to night - just like food - oh one more answer
