Energy levels 3 months after sleeve
I am 3 months out and tired often. My primary care doctor told me to just focus on getting more sleep. It's not a huge issue, it's not ruining my life, but I've definitely noticed that I'm really tired. I've had all of my bloodwork checked and everything is normal.. I told my PCP, I'm already sleeping 7-8 hours a night.. and she told me that maybe I needed more.. try sleeping for 9 hours a night.. Seems to be helping.

Trouble with the bariatric chewable vitamins
Why not just get capsules? Bariatric advantage makes capsules. I take four a day. (dosage is six, but that's for RNY patients, since I'm a sleeve patient I only need four)

Anyone not drinking protien shakes or eating protien bars?
That's fantastic! As long as you're meeting your protein goals I don't think it much matters. Getting your protein from real food is the goal for most people anyway. There are some patients who are encouraged by their doctors to discontinue protein shakes as soon as they can eat meat. Personally I eat bars because I have a sweet tooth and they're convenient. I get 70-90 grams of protein a day with about half from bars/powders and the other half from real food.

POP?!
Soda was allowed by my Dr. at 6 weeks.. but I didn't try any until like maybe 10 weeks... I've had a few sodas here and there and it doesn't feel any difference now than it did before my sleeve.

Fiber help plesse
You can pick up quest bars at GNC. I love ALL the flavors.... but coconut cashew is my favorite. I get my chia seeds at the farmer's market, but they are available in most grocery stores in the "natural" section.

Fiber help plesse
Have you tried Quest bars? 20 grams of Protein and 18 grams of fiber under 200 calories. You MIGHT still have the problem of them tasting too good, but maybe you can find a flavor that is "just ok" instead of SUPER DELICIOUS! Just make sure you drink a lot of Water before eating one because when you have extra fiber, you need extra water to help push it through. Another option is CHIA SEEDS... I like to dissolve a tablespoon or two in a fruity flavored drink (I do lemonade made with stevia, but you can do anything you want) and then I shake it every few minutes for 15 minutes so the chia seeds can hydrate and gel.

Salad?
I started at 6 weeks.. I found that baby spinach and spring field greens worked a lot better than romaine and iceberg lettuces. I also cut up the salad into small bits (almost the same size as tabouleh)

Would love to hear about anyones experiance with Dr.Valenzuela and Mi Doctor hospital
My experience was great with both.. I've posted several times about it so if you search a bit you'll find some of my reviews. I have full confidence in Dr Valenzuela and her partner Dr. Cabrerra. MiDoctor was 'ok' It served the purpose and I received the care I needed. Reminded me of the hospital in my small hometown.

Lower stomach
Well, I'm 41 years old and have been fat since birth. I've had a large lower stomach since I can remember and I've had a pannus from age 11. I've lost 100 pounds and I'm half way through my journey.. My lower stomach is hanging as low as before but it's just more deflated now. and it's coming up in the center.. so now it basically looks like two flat boobs.. SOOOO ATTRACTIVE! But I guess the good news is it's not hanging LOWER than before! My ARMS are a different story.. They used to be fat, but at least they were cylindrical... now I've got bingo wings! GRRRRRRRR. Honestly, I'd rather have the fatter arms but we can't pick and choose.. Guess I'll be getting those babies chopped off when I go for plastics on my tummy!

Why did the Marriott hotel charge my debit card?
yes it's included.. As for WHY anybody would have to give their credit card information.. it's pretty standard to do that even when the actual room charge is already covered. The booking angency covers the room fee... but because YOU are actually staying in the room, you have to give your credit card as security to cover charges if there is theft/damage to the room. Also, for everyone who is stating that they were charged, have you called the Marriott about it and asked?

Forget food funeral! I had a clothes funeral :)
GREAT JOB! And perfect timing for your sister to be able to have a wardrobe for her to shrink into. I JUST got rid of my first batch of clothes.. I'm a 22 going into a 20 and some of the clothes I got rid of were 28s and I was STILL WEARING THEM up until last week. I had a hard time parting with them because they were expensive and I liked them.. and more importantly I have only ONE pair of size 22 pants in my wardrobe.... I've found several size 20s at the thrift store but I'm not quite there yet so I'll be going the next month or so with ONE pair of jeans and I guess the rest of the time I'll be wearing stretch pants! I also have two shirts in size 18/20 that bought when I was a size 24 and they fit me now perfectly so I'm wearing them ALL THE TIME to get all my wear out of them. Ordinarily I don't wear my favorite clothes a lot because I don't want to wear them out but now I totally want to get all the wear I can out of them!

Honestly, who has had zero problems
Three months out... zero problems. Never struggled with hydration, Got 70-90 grams of Protein in consistently even from the start, Tolerated all foods when introduced. Never slime, never throw up, Satisfied with portion size, swallowing pills in the hospital, minimal post-op pain or nausea, Incisions healed within days, no leaks, no blood clots. First labs were perfect. My sleeve has been very good to me.

Protein bars
I was allowed them after six weeks but I didn't start eating them until 3 months.

What is considered a sip?
a table spoon. I practiced sipping by measuring 1/4 cup of Water and taking FOUR sips from it.. that makes each sip a tablespoon... Turns out I didn't need all the practice though.. My sleeve had no problem handling regular size swallows of Fluid right from the beginning... I never really had to do the small "sips" nor did I have to space out my fluids because it just ran right through my sleeve as fast as I'd drink it! I'm three months out and I just got back from working out and chugged half a 16 ounce water.. waited about two minutes and chugged the other half.... My sleeve is very good to me!

Protein Bars?
Around Around 22-24 carbs... but 18 of them are Fiber.. typically only one or two sugar and 0-4 sugar alcohols. And you really don't believe in net carbs? I'm skeptical of subtracting sugar alcohols, but I definitely subtract fiber. I eat TONS of fiber which put my carbs up over 60 sometimes, but I stay in ketosis because most of the carbs are from fiber.. if I ate 60 carbs in a day from sugar it would definitely kick me out of ketosis so there's definitely a difference at least in my body.

different post op protocols?
1 week clear, 1 week, 1 week puree, 1 mushy 1 week soft foods and some meats, then at the 6th week I could eat everything.

Looks vs. Health...looks 1 health 0
I did the surgery for health.... I'm going getting a full body lift and perky new boobies for looks.

Sipping ends with post op?
I could do three swallows in a row during my first week post op. My sleeve hardly had any inflammation so fluids went down easily. The whole sipping thing is typically because most patients have inflamed sleeves with very little space for even fluids. I'm now 3+ months out and I can chug 8 ounces of water without any issues.

b12 injections
Have you already tried a sublingual B-12 pill? I used a sublingual (dissolve under the tongue) pill just 3 times a week and I was told I could stop using it by my PCP because my B-12 levels were super high now! The one I was using was the B-12 2500 mcg item number 3861 from Puritain's Pride.. it's a US mail order company. www.puritain.com. The cost for THREE bottles of 100 tablets is $16.99 (buy one get two free).. so that's for a total of 300 tablets. You should also be able to get a similar product/dose OTC at any pharmacy.. just make sure to get sublingual since that's how it absorbs best.

Has anyone used Mexico Bariatric Center ?
Hello, I used The team of Valenzuela/Cabrerra and I have 100% confidence in this team. I could have chosen other more well known doctors for the same price, but I chose THIS team and have no regrets! My Primary care physician has been impressed as well. She said my incisions look fabulous and all of my bloodwork is perfect so I should continue to follow the instructions of my surgeon. I will say there have been recent posts about Mexico Bariatric Center which were not so favorable. (not getting back with people in a timely manner, telling incorrect information etc) These complaints seem to involve new coordinators.. but when I went through them I had CHRISTY as my coordinator and she was AWESOME. So I guess, I'm going to change my recommendation based on new information from other patients.. I still recommend the team of Cabrerra/Valenzuela without reservation BUT I only recommend MBC if you are using CHRISTY as your coordinator as the other coordinators through this company don't seem to be getting good reviews recently. Edited to add: The doctors do a leak test during surgery and then after surgery as well. This team also uses a drain which is what I felt most comfortable with.

The good, the bad & the ugly... Mexico Bariatric Center, Dr. Kelly, MI Hospital
WOW, I think this thread is a good lesson... When you're choosing a booking agency and doctor, give the most weight to the more RECENT reviews because a lot can change in a few short months. When I booked back in November, Christy was coordinating for MBC and I could get hold of her any time and she returned emails within hours and never fed me any bullsh!t....and trust me I called at weird times.. like sunday evening or or on THANKSGIVING and I still received quick responses. I also asked tons of questions and always received well researched responses. Sounds like she's no longer there and this staff change has really made a difference and not in a good way. I would feel bad if people go by my older recommendation of MBC since obviously they are no longer offering the same experience as when I was sleeved.

What do you think? Do you consider me a slow loser?
Michigan Chick, I was 360 a few years ago, then I lost down to 330-340ish and plateaued there... then I bounced between 310 and 340 for the next two years. Then in December 2012 in preparation for my surgery I started an 800 calorie VLCD at 335 pounds. and lost down to 297 in three months before I started my two week preop on March 1st.

Swallowing pills post op
I was swallowing an antibiotic and acid reducer while in the hospital...I started my multi vitamin which was in capsule form when I got home from the hospital and I started my calcium in tablet form two weeks later (he asked me to wait on these because they are TABLETS and about twice the size of an aspirin. I've NEVER had a problem swallowing pills. At two months out I started taking L-carnitine, Glucosamine and Chondroiton, and Salmon oil which are all HUGE horse pills.. and they all go down easy and I don't feel a thing!
