  1. I've gained three pounds in the last week or so! I'm six weeks post op. my starting weight was 200 and now I'm 178. I eat about 500-800 calories a day, the majority of which is protein. I fall short on my fluids - I get around 45 ounces a day. I've also started exercising almost daily over the last couple of weeks. What else can I do? I'm so very frustrated to have had this huge life-altering surgery and to see the scale moving in the wrong direction... I'm trying not to focus solely on the numbers but seeing them move up is really scaring me. Open to all feedback!!
  2. I had surgery three weeks ago. I was 197 on the day if surgery and I'm 182 today. Some people may think that's a slow loss but I'm ok with it. But the scale hasn't moved in a few days. I'm eating about 500 calories a day and get between 50-75g of protein a day. I get nearly 60oz of fluid and I'm exercising too. Anything else I can do to get the scale to budge?

    belly button VS multiple incisions

I had the single incision VSG through my belly button on 3/5/13. The first week was terrible with pain, but now, 2 1/2 weeks out, I feel fantastic. My incision is healed and looking at me you'd never know I ever had surgery. I'm very glad that my surgeon recommended this option for me. Best of luck everyone!

  5. Thank you everyone for your replies. I am so grateful for this community of support. For now I'm going to give her the space she's requested and hope that our friendship can survive this. I would just hate to lose her...
  6. My friend and I have been best friends since we were 15. We have both battled weight issues since our teen years. Despite living completely different lives and living in different parts if the country, our friendship has always flourished. She let me know during the pre-op phase that she was completely opposed to the surgery, and that I could do it the old-fashioned way (even though neither of us had ever reached a healthy weight doing it the old-fashioned way). I love her so much and don't want to lose her, but se actually just asked me to back off and give her space. Anyone else have any issues with friends related to their decision to pursue surgery, and have any advice for me? Thanks everyone.
  7. I was sleeved on Tuesday, 3/5. I was pretty anxious going in, so the lovely anesthesiologist made sure to give me a nice good dose of versed. I don't remember being wheeled into the OR, or the PACU at all. I remember waking up in my room in a good amount of discomfort. Morphine was not cutting it for pain control so they switched it to dilaudid, but that made me rather nauseated, so then I had to have zofran and phenergan pretty much around the clock. Switching over to oral pain/anti-nausea meds has made a big difference. Despite the fact that I was extremely nauseous, I never did throw up. After tolerating some Water and then a portion of a Protein drink, I was ready to go home. My husband picked me up yesterday, and I just crashed. Didn't really get much rest in the hospital. So now the journey begins as far as figuring out how to eat with my new sleeve, and also how to make it work best for me. I don't mind the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate Protein powder so I've been having that with skim milk. Trying to stay up on my water by taking lots if sips (I got in about 20 ounces of water yesterday plus 2/3 or two 8 oz protein shake). Today I had about 2/3 of my Protein shake this morning (with skim milk) and am already up to about 8 ounces of water). If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them : )

    Surgery today... Nervous!

My surgery is scheduled for 1:30 this afternoon. Fear and self-doubt are rearing their ugly heads. What if this doesn't work for me? A lifetime if unsuccessful yo-yo dieting has left me wondering if I'll ever get my weight under control. But I'm hopeful that this tool will help me get to a healthy weight for the first time since elementary school. Today my amazing and supportive husband is going to take some dreaded "before" pictures for me, as well as my measurements. Hope to be able to post some "after" pictures in a few months!! This forum has been a great source of information, inspiration and support. Thanks everyone : )

Thanks do much for your words of advice! Interesting enough, I don't have an extended pre-op diet, just clears the day before surgery and then nothing after midnight. Actually, if I lost 15% of my body weight I wouldn't qualify for the surgery because I'd fall below the required BMI. I've read all about the struggles people have with strict pre-op diets, so I guess I feel a bit relieved that I'm able to bypass that part. Thanks again for your support.
  13. I have gone through all of the pre-op requirements, been approved by my insurance company, and have a surgery date of 3/5. It's been a hard journey. At 37, with high blood pressure (been on meds for six years) and high cholesterol, I chose to look into this surgery to live a longer and healthier life, and to get my weight under control once and for all. My BMI is 38. I have three children and want to be around go see their children grow up. My husband has been amazing and supportive. I have an excellent surgeon with a fantastic track record and very low complication rate. I feel like I'll be in excellent hands, but of course I'm still nervous and anxious because it is major surgery and will require lifelong changes that a of yet, I have been unable to make long term on my own. If anyone has any words of advice for the first couple of weeks post-op, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance for your support!
