  1. L~ you have done SO WELL. I can't believe 16 weeks has passed already! 70 lbs seems like a great accomplishment in such a relatively short amount of time-- it is truly inspiring. thanks for posting
  2. Outstanding! You are truly inspiring
  3. You ARE very lucky!!! I looooove the happy dance!
  4. KJ you are sleeved!! That is wonderful news! Glad to hear you are doing so well
  5. I'm on Day 6 of the liver shrinking diet, and I've lost 8 lbs! It's challenging but you guys can do it if I can! If you didn't already see this post by webchickadee, I encourage you to read it. It really helped me to re-frame my perspective on the pre-op diet. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/78443-the-pre-op-diet-is-not-a-punishment-its-an-opportunity/#entry812397 Onward!
  6. Ask your husband to give you a massage! That is a win/win situation! Congratulations on reaching your goal!!!!
  7. Happy Mothers Day Misslady ! And to all the other moms too I took my mom out to brunch last weekend because my pre-op started this past Wed. It is going pretty well - i have been faithful to the plan. It has been easier than i thought the first few days would be. Before when ive tried no carbs i was just setting myself up for a binge- i would go nuts after 2 days. But my perspective is different this time; i know that this is my prep for a big life change, and i know that soon i will have help (the sleeve). I have been hungry at night in particular, but i think i am doing ok. I may send my food log to my NUT to make sure I am really doing it right To all my fellow pre-op-ers, we can DO this! Webchickadee writes words of wisdom above!
  8. You could just say youre trying a new liquid diet....no need to mention surgery, and in the long run they may believe thats how you lost all your weight. Or, you could say youve got a bit of a stomach bug & thats why youre not eating, then say a protein shake is soothing... Or you could tell them, or have your S.O. tell them and say you dont want to talk about it. Good luck with whatever you do, and most importantly keep your eye on the prize!
  9. Yay! We're Sleeve Siblings!! I go to pre-op next Thursday. I keep feeling what I think at first is fear, but if I stop and let myself explore the "fear" feeling further, I realize I'm not scared at all. I think I'm just ready to go and excited and grateful! Like, fall-on-my-knees-tears-of -joy-grateful. I'm also really curious about what the whole experience will be like. It's definitely an adventure!!
  10. well I'm down 4lbs already in 48 hrs....but I believe it's all water weight! I'm constantly heading to the ladies room at work, and I get up 4 to 5 times a night. I don't feel crazy without the carbs yet, but my sense of smell has gotten more acute and I can smell bread and sugar if it's nearby (very weird, eh?). Last night I really really felt hungry, so I did have an extra protein snack (lowfat string cheese, 60 cal). This morning I made a huge batch of sugarfree jello, which I can have unlimited, so that will be my go-to from now on. I need to remind myself how very important it is to Be Prepared and Plan Ahead. Otherwise it's too tempting to grab the bad stuff and eat it.
  11. I'm also getting sleeved 5/22! Yes... time is really speeding up. I'm trying so hard to get everything in order at work to be out for 2 weeks, and that seems to make time go by even faster!
  12. Pre-op diet Day 3 for me -- I feel your pain :] I've been peeing soooooooooo much! I'm very well hydrated I've lost 4 lbs already, so that's cool. Obviously it's Water weight! My surgery is 5/22. . .
  13. I know right?!?!!?
  14. OK maybe you guys can tell me how to report this, but I also wanted to give a heads up to everyone. And if it's already come up, my apologies for duplicating. In the middle of the night I got a ping on my phone that said I had email. I checked it, and it says that joeloa666 has started a new personal conversation with me. It looks like all the other notifications I get from VST and there's the link to click to connect to the VST site. But it also shows the body of the email I've supposedly been sent on VST, and it say the following: "My name is Luka Chachibaia, I am a citizen of Ukraine and the Vice President Operations of Tethys Petroleum, a multi-national oil corporation operating from London-England, UK. I am seeking your assistance to retrieve the sum of($40,000.000) Forty Million Dollars consisting of two consignment boxes. This money was acquired from the company and it was accompanied by a diplomat to the U.S.A, my reason for this is because I have been cheated out of my entitlements by the company for too long simply because I am not a British. The contact details of the diplomat will be given to you if you indicate your interest to help me.Each of the boxes contains $20M and for your help I am ready to release 30% to you, for security reasons the consignment was registered to be CONFIDENTIAL DIPLOMATIC DOCUMENTS and I can explain why it was declared so. Bear in mind that the diplomat is not aware of the content of the consignment, it has been there for the past 1 month while I intend to look for a reliable partner.I will be leaving the country immediately the consignment is delivered to you for my private investment and I have vowed never to step back into London, England. Please, I need your urgent response before my plans to leave the company is discovered.Right now the safest form of correspondence is through my own e-mail address, please in the interest of confidentiality only reply through my direct email address ( chachibaialuka566@yahoo.com.hk ) Reply along with your direct phone and fax number where I can alternatively reach you on.More about me on: http://www.tethyspetroleum.com/tethys/static/EN_US/au_seniormanagement.html ,Please if you are not willing and interested in helping me kindly delete this email from your email and pretend you never got it.Best regards,Mr.Luka Chachibaia Vice President Operations Tethys Petroleum.London, England" SERIOUSLY? Not a Nigerian prince this time? Do people really sometimes fall for this crap? they must, if people keep doing it! I expect this in hotmail or yahoo mail, but not through VST. So I separately opened a browser & logged into VST to reply to this nitwit and give him what-for, but lo & behold....there is no such personal message in my VST mailbox. I can only guess that the link in the notification that supposedly would take me directly to VST is false and possibly - probably- harmful. ugh.
  15. Pammers, Monday will be here before you know it!! That IS exciting! Good luck I will be following in your footsteps on the 22nd!
  16. Looks great and I look forward to doing it! My surgery is 2 weeks from today, so I have saved the image and will give it a go once I'm approved for that kind of heavy lifting lol
  17. And so begins the FIRST day of my 2 week Liver Shrinking Diet. It involves 2 protein shakes per day, 1 “lean & green” meal (for me it will be my dinners) and 2 “protein snacks” which can be a protein bar or 2 eggs or cottage cheese or poke, etc. Sugarfree jello is unlimited. Yay. LOL. Not gonna lie, last night, being the last night of old food habits, I had a cheeseburger, ......and there was a late evening trip to Baskin Robbins. HOWEVER, I have actually been pretty in control with this looming on the horizon. My husband (fit & athletic all his life, god bless him) said “Gosh I guess if it was me I’d totally pig out so that I wouldn’t WANT junk food for a while” While I understand that he is alluding to a form of aversion therapy, that clearly is not the answer in the case of a food addict – otherwise I wouldn’t be so overweight. Yes I have totally pigged out at times in my life and guesswhat? It has never made me not want to eat again. But he meant well, and I’d venture to guess that the fact that I didn’t take him up on his offer to let me binge til I puked may have impressed him a bit SO. ….To be honest, it’s early yet, but I’m not panicking about the aspects of this 2 weeks diet. I’m actually quite stoked to be starting the process! From past experience, I know that the Carb Crazies may set in round day 3 or 4. And that is also when my nose will become acutely attuned to smelling ANY bread or crackers within a mile radius. But, I shall overcome! And, a wise vet on VST has said - - when in doubt, drink water. I’m going to be very well hydrated. Also practicing the no water til 30 min after I eat. I had to spit some water out a little while ago because I took a sip without thinking. Glad I'm in my office where no one can see me Really what hit me between the eyes this morning was that today signifies that in 2 weeks, I will be at the medical center being prepped for surgery. That is kinda unbelievable. That is exciting! That is coming up SO fast!!! I’m ready! Or rather, I will be by then! ONWARD!

Wow you're a real gym rat! i have no doubt that altho the scale stayed the same, you have lost fat & gained muscle. Thats awesome Lol your stepdaughter sounds pretty hardcore! It is so great you two are doing these things together though. I bet she has gotten you to try some things you might not have tried otherwise!
  19. In fact, my surgeon's team doesnt call it The Pre-op Diet....they call it The Liver Shrinking Diet. Mine is not all liquid but there are no carbs. I start it tomorrow...oh boy oh boy!
  20. Thats so funny- my mom is a southern belle & had double knee replacement a couple years ago. The second they brought her to her room from recovery after surgery, she was demanding her lipstick. She was still all high from anesthesia and/or pain meds, and her hair was all jacked up, but she had her lipstick on so all was right in the universe
  21. It all depends on your dr...everyone is different. You should definitely ask -- this is a very reasonable question!
  22. I agree w/Min. The first one i ever got was in my late teens. I thought it would just go away. But when my mom asked if my urine was cloudy & i said yes, she said thats pus from inside your bladder. Go to the dr! Ive only ever had one 1 other time. The antiobiotics give you quick relief
  23. First of all, I love your screen name I understand what you're saying. I say F 'em. I started my journey at a BMI of 39; I know my patterns and I knew I was on the way up, and I KNOW the damage of yo-yo dieting. Enough was enough - I'm scheduled for 5/22. I didn't have any of the comorbidities on the "approved list of comorbidities". Yet. I knew my chances of a safer surgery are better now than if I wait until I'm bigger and sick. YOU know what's right for YOU, and your surgeon approved doing the surgery, so everyone else can take a hike with their opinions. I'd just give a withering smile & nod or change the subject. The real bummer about being fat is not how you look but how you feel. I want to FEEL good! And FWIW, there are a lot of bald guys in this world that are really handsome My celebrity crush (and celebrity hall-pass from my husband lol) is Dwayne Johnson and he's super-shiney bald!
  24. I think I've only read of one person who went home the same day -- I believe the majority of people at least stay over night. If there are other things 'fixed' during surgery, like band damage, or a hernia,or gallbladder removal, then it's possible there would be an extra day in hospital. And of course, if there are any complications they should keep you.
