Started this journey a year ago and had to put everything on hold until January of 2014 because of a dumb preexisting clause with my new insurance company. I restarted the process in Nov and had lab work and upper GI done. Met with nutritionist and will have my psych eval on Sat. Once it is complete my doctor will submit paperwork for approval of surgery. The nerves about getting approved that I read from everyone on here are already setting in. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and my doc said that my policy does include wls so that's a positive note. I am so ready to have this done. I have two children in elementary school and it will be so nice to not be tired all the time after all their activities. I am 5' 1 and 255 lbs and have tried every diet I've encountered. I'd lose but would eventually regain. I really enjoy everyone's posts and pray for all of you to find the success and good health that we are all striving for with this endeavor. I'll keep you all posted and look forward to reading more from you all!

I recently went to my first seminar and meeting with my Doctor and they checked out my insurance which is BCBS of Texas. They told me that my policy does cover the surgery but because it's a new policy that I must wait till Jan 2014 to have the surgery. Was completely bummed but I'm going to be working with my doctor to get everything I need done during this time and take it from there.

Good suggestions ladies! Thanks for the encouragement. Ill definitely call my Insurance company. I was just so excited to commit to it after doing so much research.

Went to my seminar and met with the doctor and it all went very well. I'm a great candidate for the surgery but.... Good news is my insurance company; BCBS of Texas and my policy covers the surgery, bad news is I have to wait a year to do it as its a new insurance policy. Sigh...

I've been thinking of getting this surgery for some time now. I am 5'1 and 228 lbs with a bmi of 43.1. I am nervous about the whole "getting approved" thing, but ready to try! Not quite sure how BCBS of Texas is with WLS as we are new to the plan. What's the first steps to all this?

There is no doubt that this is a big decision and it sounds like you have thought it out thoroughly. I, myself and currently considering the gastric sleeve. I'm in that stage where I've done tons of research and just weighing the pros and cons of actually doing it. Good luck with your surgery and I look forward to your updates.
