  1. I am 26 years old, height 5'2, and weight 260 , Insurance I have is Medi-Cal Anthem BC, i have some questions about process. BMI is 46.6, i had some gallstone issues and recently got my gallbladder removed , and ever since i have been having issues with my feet, major pain/soreness to where it hurts walking on them everyday, im scared to what this can mean. My grandma as well as most of her sisters, (14 of them) have Diabetes. I have Medi-Cal Anthem BC, and i got a referral, and scheduled the first step (im assuming) Nutrition Class . How does this process continue, and what should i be expecting. With Sutter , in Sacramento CA

  4. I had a few questions about WLS. The pro's I know of but I am just afraid of the cons, also if I should or shouldn't go through with the process of talking with doctor, getting a referral and approval and surgery date etc. I haven't seen a PCP doctor in a long time, and because of Medi-Cal insurance I am unable to even go to mine because he is not accepting New Patient appts, so I have had no Diabetes, High Cholesterol, etc Blood Work done ever. I am 24, 100 plus over supposed weight i should be for my height, and my mom has had high cholesterol, and my grandfather has heart disease, and grandmother has diabetes, a few of her sisters also.
I am still Breastfeeding and have had 3 c section surgeries and would like to have more children via VBAC in the future also so I really want to know how WLS will affect my body, reproductive organs and all other organs with rapid weight loss, and getting used to the new lifestyle.

  5. There are so many factors to consider, it's hard to say. Your insurance may impose a diet, anywhere from 3-6 months long, but some insurance companies have dropped this requirement. Then it depends on the surgeon you go to and what they want - some want you to lose a certain percentage of body weight before scheduling a surgery date, and that will depend on how long it takes you to do it. Other surgeons don't care that you lose weight and just want you on a pre-op diet.

I'm still pre-op as well, and I started the process in July. I got a referral to a surgeon in October and I've gone to the hospital's seminar, now I'm just waiting to get a call to schedule an appointment. But I have no idea what will happen from there.

It's been very hard for me to stay patient, because I'm not typically a very patient person. But I've embraced that I want to make a whole lifestyle change, so I'm taking this time to start working out regularly and changing my diet by cutting a lot of carbs. Spend this time wisely to educate yourself about what post-op life is like, because that's for the rest of your life. The surgery will come when it comes, but when it does, you'll do best to be ready!

    Good luck to you!

    Okk thank you. :)

  6. Ask me as many questions as you can! Thats why we come here, I am glad I can help you :) You have to call Blue cross (the number should be on the back of your card) and tell them who you want to change your primary care provider to. Before you do that, You should try calling some local Urgent Cares and make sure they see pateints on a regular basis, confirm they are not part of a Medical Group and then ask if their Dr."s are willing to send referals out for weightloss surgery. Hopefully that should cover it :)

ok im doin that now lol, thank you. i may be askin some more soon!!! im so glad i found someone here who has the same insurance and is not to far away

  7. Yup, Urgent Care are not usually associated with Medical Groups. Definitely ask your local Urgent Care first but it should work out just fine!

Ok im sorry i dont mean to keep asin questions lol, but so i just call Urgent Care and ask them can i make you my PCP? or Can i get a gastric sleeve referral from you? or what?? And also Modesto, ok cool yes i will keep that in mind, i was lookin at a Dr names Benjamin Shadle but he seems to not be on here as a surgeon.
