  1. Welcome! I'm new to posting also' date=' but like you, I've been a longtime lurker. After years of consideration, I'm finally taking the plunge and having my surgery done on March 8th in Cancun with Dr. Perez. I wish you the best of luck as you begin your journey! I think we can all be a great support system for one another. :)[/quote']

    How are you doing Courtney?

  2. I was sleved with Dr.Perez on 12/15 and could not have been happier with the expereence. I am down 35 lbs and have had zero problems. I also went through alma at Ready 4 a Change and had no problems other than i was confused on who handled some of the details (Drivers,Hotel, ect..). If you want to talk to me PM you number and I will be happy to chat about the experence.

I do not understand why anyone would want to go to a border town when they can lay on a beach on Cancun.

  3. After seeing the posts about Cancun and Dr Perez I am now considering going there rather than Tijuana. How much follow up have you needed with your surgeon? Did Dr Perez give education for post-op diet?

Dr Perez gave me all the info but I had already read Dr.alverez book which had a more conservative approach. ( available on amazon). I have not need Ed any follow but have his email if needed.

  4. Surgery was on Saturday and I Just wanted to check in and tell you how I was doing. Everything went perfectly, I could not be happier with my choice. Dr.Perez and his team was absolutely wonderful and I can not image why anyone would not pick Cancun over a boarder town.

I will give you guys more details when I get back. Right now I am sitting under a cabana, drinking Gatorade , and watching the waves.

  5. I told my PCP and I am glad I did. She insisted on running a full blood panel and found out I was severely anemic. I faxed the lab results to Dr.Perez in Cancun and he said I could avoid a transfusion if I got a Iron iV soon. And that is exactly what I did.

But really. You will feel much better having a supportive Dr for follow up care. If your PCP is not on board than you may need to find one that is, and preferably before you go.

  6. I was wondering the same thing. I haven't seen anything really negative about him. I have researched a few Dr's in Tijuana but I'm not interested in crossing the border and I would not be able to use airmiles to fly to San Diego from Canada... so flying directly into Mexico is the option I am looking for. I found negative reviews on the Dr. in Cancun so that option is also out. I am seriously considering Dr Joya due to reviews and simplicity of the travel. I can have a friend come with me and they are able to stay at the hospital and hotel with me for no extra cost so that is also appealing as I'd be paying for her travel and food etc... basically everything for her to come with me.

So I'm hoping to see a few recent reviews from anyone that has gone to Dr. Joya? Both good' date=' and bad.

I have also watched a few videos from people who went to Dr joya on youtube, all is well so far?[/quote']

Can you point me to the negative reviews you found about Cancun. Which Doctor?

  7. My doctor ran some test to make sure I was good for surgery and found out my Iron saturation is very low, 5%. The Dr in Mexico still approved me but now I am nervous. Flight is booked and deposit is paid.

Did anyone go into surgery with a similar issue? I would really prefer to not get a blood transfusion in Mexico.

  8. I just told my PCP Monday and I literally cried when she said she would support me. She ran a crap load of blood work and gave me per-op diet tips to shrink my liver. I had already decided that I was going to go to another Dr if she was not going to support me. My plan was to call the bariatric group in town and ask what doctor frequently send them patients.

I will tell you she was a little taken bake with how inexpensive the surgery was in Mexico by had not problem with it.

  9. In all honesty? I cannot wait to wear clothes that reflect me!! I spent the whole day going to my closet and sorting out clothes into piles of "keep"' date=' "donate", "sell" and I realized that at my largest size (20w) I was buying clothes for the sake of having something that fit. I didn't care about color, cut, print, shape. If it covered me, I bought it. I am selling items that I either wore once or never wore at all because the clothes aren't me! I am a skinny girl stuck in this body. Of course I love comfy things but I don't belong in sweatpants and hooded zippered sweatshirts 24/7. I deserve to wear dresses and pretty skirts and fancy blouses. I always indulged in purses in shoes because no matter how big u are, u can always find a nice purse or pair of shoes. I cannot wait to be able to buy clothes in that way too <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

I 100% agree with this one. I hate buying clothes because they will fit, not because I actually like them. I have been big so long I am not even sure what my style is. But I do know it is not elastic.

  10. Hi' date=' I also go through Ready 4A Change and alma is my coordinator and has been exceptional. I plan on going December 14/15th as well to have my surgery in Cancun so keep me posted if you are doing the same <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

Thank you for the feedback. I have been impressed with her so far. I will be paying my deposit next week. I will be flying in on the 14th and Surgery on the 15th. Are you flying via Miami or Atlanta?
