Low bmi , slow loser ?

I feel like I am losing slowly and I am a low bmi. I have been searching the forums to find information of percentages of excess weight loss per month, but I can't find anything. When I look at the percentage of excess weight I have lost, it seems a lot better than the number of pounds I have lost. I would avoid focusing on how many pounds others have lost when you have so much less to lose. I will say, I went into this surgery knowing I would have stalls and actually wanting to lose slowly to avoid skin issues as well as having my weight loss seem more natural. Still, living it, it has been very hard to see the scale move so slowly over the last few weeks. I will be 2 months out on the 18th and have only lost a bit over 4lbs in my second month. It is vey frustrating and makes me feel like I am doing something wrong. I log all of my food and get all my Protein in and most of my Water (I need to work on my water), and I exercise 3-4 days a week. I am eating between 600-800 calories a day. I am REALLY trying to be patient.
  3. I have only lost 22lbs since surgery on 1/18. I had lost quite a bit (26 lbs) in the months prior to surgery. I tend to lose anywhere from 1 to 2.5 pounds per week. I am exercising 3-4 days a week and eating anywhere from 500-900 calories per day. The good news is I am now overweight and not obese. Recovery has been very easy and I am tolerating all foods well. Still, I am in the "slow losers" category. It is frustrating but I am really trying to look at the big picture, and not worry so much about what the scale says day to day- even though it's hard.

    Biggest loser conspiracy!

Dr. Alvarez's coordinator, Susan, told me that they did the sleeve on a former biggest loser participant who had gained weight back after being on the show. Of course she didn't reveal who it was. I think keeping it off is the hard part.

I bake the salmon burgers. Super easy and they are really good.
  7. I just wanted to share my weekly #s with all of you fellow low bmi peeps. I know before surgery I was very interested in the rate of weight loss I would have. Would love for others to share as well: Highest known weight: 205 1/18 DOS 179 Week #1 171 (-8) Week #2 167.4 (-3.6) 11.6 total Week #3 165.8 (-1.6) 13.2 total Week #4 163.8 (-2.0) 15.2 total 1 month 2/18 161.4 17.6 total Week #5 161.4 (-2.4) 17.6 total Week #6 159.6 (-1.8) 19.4 total Total weight loss from highest weight: 45.4

I never feel like the scale moves for me, so it is nice to look at this and see that I am making weekly progress. I am thrilled to be in the 150s finally. It has probably been about 8 years since I got to the 150s. Also, four or five days ago I switched from prilosec to prevacid and it has made a big difference. I am not feeling hungry anymore. So happy about that! I'll check in again next Friday.

    IRON....

I'm not sure how much, but I take Nature's plus chewable iron with vitamin C and herbs. It has 27 mg of iron (150% of recommended daily amount) and 100 mg of vitamin c (167% of recommended daily amount). I bought them from vitacost, but I think you vpcan also buy them on amazon. Good luck. Oh, they taste great!!
  10. I think so. I still have lingering doubts if this will work for me or not. I haven't had any problems, but I still enjoy eating and seem to be able to tolerate anything. My day of surgery weight was 179 and I am 161.4 now. Surgery was 1/18. I am only 5'2" and have gone from a 32 bmi to a 29 in 1 month. I am stalling right now and hope to start losing again soon!

    Normal to eat this much?

Actually quite of bit of meat is allowed on the soft foods phase of my post op diet. However, I wasn't allowed to start on soft foods until my 4th week (after 3 weeks of liquids). In my post op guide on phase 3, soft foods, among many other things it specifically says: Tuna, salmon, chicken, or egg salad Chicken leg or thigh meats that are cooked to a really soft consistency-crock pot or pressure cooker Moist meatloaf, turkey loaf

    Week #4 Numbers

I am 5'2". I'm not 100% sure of my goal weight because it has been over 15 years since I was even in the normal range when I hit 133 for about a week, but I think I'd like to stabilize somewhere between 115-125. The top end of the normal range is 136 for 5'2".

    Week #4 Numbers

Highest known weight: 205 1/18 DOS 179 Week #1 171 (-8) Week #2 167.4 (-3.6) 11.6 total Week #3 165.8 (-1.6) 13.2 total Week #4 163.8 (-2.0) 15.2 total Total from Highest weight: 41.2 I feel like I am losing really slowly, but given my starting weight, I am very happy with a 15.2 lb loss in 4 weeks time! The scale hasn't budged in the last 4 days. I am playing tennis again and have played twice the last 2 days -- once for 2 hours and the other for 1 1/2 hours. Really good matches with lots of running on my part. I am playing again today for another 2 hours. I am a bit surprised that didn't help the scale to move a bit. From here on out, I know my monthly losses will slow way down, and I am fine with that. Since I lost so much weight (27 lbs) in the months leading up to my VSG, lots of people are commenting on my weight loss which is nice. I am .8 lbs from just being overweight and not obese. I am hoping my monthly weight loss from here on out will be between 5-10 lbs per month. I think those expectations are reasonable. I feel like I can eat more than I should be able to at 4 weeks out. I am still on soft foods, but had a salmon patty from costco yesterday and I was able to eat a little over half of it. Yesterday I couldn't get satisfied. I kept wanting to snack. I think I am going to try a different antiacid and see if that helps. For lunch I had an entire serving of tortilla soup. There were only a couple of chunks of chicken in it. I really don't think I fill up on liquids at all. I think soup will likely be my go to food when I eat out. At least I won't be self conscious and will be eating a normal portion.

    January Newbies ! Progress ?

I am 4 weeks out today. I feel great! No problems to speak of. I am down 15.2 lbs since surgery and 41.2 from my highest weight. I know 15.2 lbs doesn't seem like much, but if my goal weight is 120lbs, then I have lost 25% of my excess weight, so I think I'm doing pretty good.

    Ouch!

How far out does it usually happen? I am 3 1/2 weeks out.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I has surgery on 1/18 and am in the soft food stage. I had sea scallops for dinner last night and had no problems. However, I haven't had any problems with any drinks, vitamins or the few foods I have tried so far. Everyone is saying to stop eating when you start to feel full. I have to stop before that and take a break. I think it takes me longer than most to realize I am full. I am trying to eat really slowly. I feel like I am probably able to eat more than most. I had 2 1/4 sea scallops last night plus a few small bites of mashed potatoes. The night before I had about 2/3 of a small pintos and cheese from taco bell. In both cases I stopped before feeling full and then a few minutes later, I definitely feel full. The fullness is 100% in my stomach. I have never had that stuck feeling in my chest that people describe -- with food or liquid. Am I the only one?

    Week #3 Numbers. :-(

Here are my numbers so far: 1/18 DOS 179 Week #1 171 (-8) Week #2 167.4 (-3.6) 11.6 total Week #3 165.8 (-1.6) 13.2 total So only a 1.6 lb loss for the week. I told myself before surgery that I would be fine when I stall and/or the weightloss slows down. I have to admit, this has been very hard. I am doing well from the standpoint of getting all of my protein and fluids in. My calorie intake is between 450-700 calories a day, but being on liquids for 3 full weeks is tough! I am not "hungry" but I'm not satisfied either. My energy level is pretty low too. I can't believe I only lost 1.6 lbs this week. What's crazy is the last 2 days I was at 165.4 and this morning I woke up .4 lbs heavier. Seriously? I hope I don't hit the dreaded 3 week stall on top of this. Ugh. I also worked out 3 times this week doing cardio. This is crazy. My original hope was to drop 15 lbs in the first month and then hopefully 6-10 lbs per month after that. Now I'm thinking that may be unrealistic. Last week, I would have said I am definitely on track to lose 15 lbs my first month. Now, I'm not so sure. Each week that weight loss has slowed down to about half of what it was the week before. If the trend holds, I won't make it. Hopefully, that trend will break this week. We'll see. I think all my past yo-yo dieting has really screwed with my metabolism.

    Weightloss stall

Thanks for this. I am exactly 3 weeks out today and I only lost 1.6 lbs. this last week. I have been at the same weight since Monday and was really starting to get frustrated. This article really helped me. Thank you!!

    January Newbies ! Progress ?

I am right there with you guys. Today I am exactly 3 weeks out and I have to say, when I weighed this morning, I was pretty disappointed. Only a 1.6 lb loss for the week. Ugh. I have also gotten all my fluids and protein in. I am getting between 450-700 calories a day. I have been exactly the same weight as I was Monday. Here are my stats: 1/18 DOS 179 Week #1 171 (-8) Week #2 167.4 (-3.6) 11.6 total Week #3 165.8 (-1.6) 13.2 total

    Week #3 Numbers. :-(

Thanks joatsaint! I am trying not to get too down about it. I am really surprised that it is effecting my mood so much. I guess I just feel like I have been through so much and have eaten so little these last 21 days, that my weight would be falling off at this point. In my head, I know it will happen. There is a part of me, though, that is scared that this won't work for me.
