  1. It depends on my workout. Some workouts are made to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time and have an afterburn (specifically HIIT High Intensity Interval Training) and others burn more calories during the workout b/c they are longer. It's all about what you can put into and what you get out of it. If you are burning too many calories and heart is working too hard it's not as good for you either because you are making your body work too hard.

Recently I've found that I have a pretty low heart rate and my workouts have burned less calories b/c I am having to work harder to get my heart rate up there but I guess it means my heart is pumping more efficiently. I agree with DonRodolfo where it's great to see those huge numbers but at the same time, you want to make sure you are not overworking your own body and making the workout less effective. Listening to your body and setting a goal (like the 5k, completing x weeks in a workout routine, increasing cardio time and weights lifted) is also a great idea!!

  2. I think it's a little bit of both. It could be your body doesn't have the right fuel or your workouts are too hard or you're dehydrated. I can tell when I over train when my heart rate which is now normally on the much lower side and peaks too soon and too high. I am also exhausted to get up in the morning and then continue to struggle through my workouts. When I overtrain it effects me more throughout the day than specifically during the workout. Does that make sense? But honestly everybody is so different it's what's best for your body. I am sure your trainer will have better insight, I'd love to hear what he/she says!

  3. I have tried and tried to enjoy yoga. Several times. I just find it to be quite a snooze and get bored with it. I suppose that is the point ( to be ultra relaxed with it), but it is so boring I do not really look forward to it. I have done Hatha, yin, power vinyasa and hot yoga. Again, not trying to bad mouth yoga for those that really like it. I just cannot seem to staying committed with it.

Recently, I have found that a stretch my trainer refers to as good morning stretch really helps stretch lower back, ham strings, calves and Achilles' tendon. It is good. Basically you put a PVC pipe or broom stick into back squat position and bend over at the waist, chest up, head up, legs straight, back straight. It is also called a stripper stretch too, I think, because your butt is sticking up there with flat back as you bend over. Good stretch!

Not going to lie, I am right there with you about my feelings about yoga... it get bored. But your stretch sounds good! I'll have to find me some pvc piping or something similar around the house!

  4. That is great to do the burpees. It is a really good full body exercise. One trick I have learned is when jumping up from lay on the ground, it is easiest to have your fingers splayed out on the ground rather than palms flat on the ground. You get more spring that way, in my opinion. Also spreading your feet apart a little helps in keeping the burpee execution light and quick. I started doing them from a classic push up position and found that to be way too hard after 25 or so on my way to 100. It kind of looks like you are a frog with your arms and legs splayed outward on your finger tips. :)

That's amazing! Go you!!! I definitely jump up with a little bit wider stance bc I'm not super flexible, working on it or at least I intend to work on it! haha! The spreading the fingers apart is great advice I did that naturally the other day and I was like "wow that makes a HUGE difference"!!

  5. http://www.amazon.com/ZingAnything-Bundles-Aqua-Zinger-Citrus/dp/B009K10T42/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1376165397&sr=8-4&keywords=aqua+zinger

I only have the aqua zinger, not the citrus zinger. But here is both of them for you guys to check out.If you look through Amazon, I am sure you can find it cheaper too! I have put all different kinds of fruit in it and it honestly works great. My students used to love to guess what fruit I'd be putting in it day to day and all went home asking their parents for it! haha!

  6. According to my fitbit, my regular daily activity counts as activity as well so I'm sure all of your hard work during your job has to count because your job is far more physical than mine! I love the idea of wearing a heart rate monitor while getting yard work done, I may have to try it this weekend!!

  7. For burpees, it depends, in the routine I did yesterday I did 2 sets of 5-8, whatever I could get done in the interval. I have one video where I'm doing them for a minute a couple times a workout and it feels like the longest minute ever. I counted down the minute as opposed to the number of burpees I get done... seems more productive haha!

  8. I used to be right there with you. I hated working out and it took me forever to get myself motivated to workout. Eventually I made a deal with myself, power through the workouts for 2 weeks and make a habit out of it. It became more natural and just part of my day. Some days I hate it and some days I love it. I also have what I like to call workout ADD. I toggle back and forth between running, gym workouts that involve weights, elliptical routines and workout video routines. I love my videos because I have lots of different videos and varying or the workouts keep me going.

When I'm doing stuff like running, treadmill or elliptical workouts good TV or music is definitely key. I concentrate less on the fact that I am working out and more on what I am listening to or watching. Most importantly you gotta find something that you will do. You may not have to love it (it certainly helps to find routines that you love) but it has to be something that you are more likely to complete and really any activity is better than no activity at all.

Once you're in a habit of it though, it really makes it easier on those days you really really don't want to do it. Today is one of those days for me, but I'm thinking after I post I'll push play on one of my workout videos!! :-)

  9. Have you tried doing yoga?? I have awful flexibility and everyone keeps telling me to throw some yoga into my routines and I would better my workouts and my results. I find yoga kinda boring but my friends suggested "fountain of youth" yoga. apparently its an easier to do yoga for those who are not very flexible. I actually have never looked into it but am happily passing along the info to you. ;-) But it is something that I probably should really look into. I just want like a short 15-20 minute video, I feel like even doing that a couple times a week could help with some flexibility issues. If you find something that works for you, I would LOVE to hear about it!!

  10. Congrats on being newly pregnant!! That's amazing! How long were you trying for? I am hoping to get the go ahead from doctor in a couple of weeks. I had some preuterine cancer and I am hoping it's still all cleared up!

I have had friends who drank the nectar powders, a GNC brand that I can't remember the name to and shakeology while pregnant. My friends loved it for when sweet cravings got too bad! when talking to them about the they all said they had their docs check the ingredients of what they were taking to make sure all was ok to consume.

Congrats again on being pregnant and good luck with everything!! :-)

  11. I love to hate anything Ab related... I hate it b/c I'm not great at it but man when you get in a good ab workout it feels great. Same thing with burpees... HATE those not sure I love them to any extent though, but I do love that they work! haha!

Lately my gym routine has been on that list... hate when my weights increase but it's been helpful when I get in weightloss stalls!!

Love me some running and kickboxing, don't hate those one bit! :)

  12. Any recommendations for a good beginners workout video? I have one of the dvds from the shapley girl series, but its boring, and too easy. I looked at the Extreme weight loss or biggest loser ones, but I am afraid they will be too hard. I need something for just starting out with a high BMI. Any suggestions?

Right after surgery (when I was cleared by my doctor) I started the slim in 6 series from beachbody. It was easy enough for me to do (involved 3 and 5 pound weights that my doctor said I could use). The slim in 6 program as a whole is a great workout routine to get back into working out and gave me great results that pushed me to try other beachbody programs that I have loved, turbofire and the new focus T25 that I've had such incredible results with. All that pushed me to be a coach as well because the programs have such great results and there is always a way to modify them to make them work for you and still get fantastic results. If you want anymore info on the programs feel free to ask me any questions you may have or I have a website www.beachbodycoach.com/coachrobinbreit I definitely recommend checking out their programs, they have something for everyone.

  13. Is it pretty easy to follow?

The workouts themselves are easy to follow and there is a modifier (Shaun T's sidekick Tanya, she's fantastic!!) in all of the workouts so you can modify what you need to. The ab workouts are difficult for me and I def need to modify them but I've seen myself get better of the few weeks I've been doing them. It's great because when it gets too hard I don't need to stop and I can modify and jump back in when I'm ready.

  14. How soon could you do this after sugery? I have been wanting to try it.....

I started doing slim in 6 express from beachbody a little less than a month out and made sure I wasn't doing ab exercises until I was cleared from my doctor. Slim in 6 was a great way to get back into exercising for me b/c it was light, easy on me and the weights I used (3 and 5 pounds) were within my allotted weights I could use after my surgery.

T25 uses a lot of core work so it really depends on when your surgery was or is. Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer whatever I can!! :-)
