I love this post! Am I addicted to food no, do I have inappropriate learned and conditioned behaviors when it comes to food yes. I didn't have a box of donuts or twinkie in my hand every time you seen me. My culture and where I was raised believe in serving HUGE portions (if you have every been to HI and eaten at a local restaurant you understand what I mean) add that to the fact that my guardians made us eat or finish our plates when we werent hungry on top of being lazy and you get someone like me! I gained around 25 pds alone last year because my partners diet consist primarily of rice. His culture can eat huge bowls of rice and not gain...me I can't. So, while I do believe I had an unhealthy relationship with food, I would not classify myself as an addict. Call it self denial or believe that I will have issues with regain...but I don't think so. Since my surgery, I don't feel guilty about wasting food by not finishing my plate, I do cardio and strength training 5x a week, and I am feeling great!

Oftentimes people do not know what they would do until they are left with no alternative. Did I want to go to MX at first? Heck no! Surgeries being done on a couch, me being left butt-naked for everyone to see my goodness and lets not talk about the complications.
I knew I didn't have the patience to wait for my insurance, so I did my research on MX and Medical Tourism. And guess what??? All those stereotypical views of a "third world country" (as you say), was a bunch of bull! Now I am sure black street surgeons exist everywhere, but you should definitely do your own research and educate yourself a little more on the subject matter before making harsh comments about other decisions just because your perception of MX are based off of movies and talk shows.

I know that you aren't interested in going out of the country and neither was I until I started doing my research about going to MX. I would say don't limit yourself because you would be surprised at how skilled those surgeons are, especially since they perform the more frequently.

If you have an HEB in your area, they carry a brand called Mootoopia (non fat) that gives you 12g of protein! Just started buying that and choc milk for a snack.< /p>

If you have a NUT, you should check with them. I am six weeks out and have had a salad several weeks ago. Some people cannnot tolerate the lettuce early out, so if you try it make sure you take small bites and chew thoroughly. After only a few bites, you will be full.

I've been living off of sushi and sashimi lately. Almost 2 months out, and raw fish seems to be the only solid Protein that my sleeve likes. Also, I've just always loved Eastern cuisine.

Pelekania reacted to Taradise in Why is my weight loss slowing down so much? HELP!
Seems like 600-800 with working out is way too little...especially if you are burning up to 300. I'm sure things will speed up...but definitely check measurements. I was experiencing the same thing but it's always around my "time of the month"....things slow down dramatically and I won't lose weight that week, but will the following.

I've been noticing that a lot of people keep their surgery a secret to the point where they won't even post pictures on here. It honestly makes me a little sad for them. Getting this surgery is one of the most exciting experiences for me and I can't imagine keeping it a secret. How can you not tell anyone?! No friends and not even some of your family. Like how is it possible to even keep it from your children? If any of you are in this situation I would definitely like some insight as to why you have made that decision. I'm definitely not trying to judge, just trying to wrap my head around how you've managed and why you made the decision. Thanks!

I guess it's how one defines "dirty laundry". Assuming that dirty laundry is something negative, yes, probably need to get that out of the way fairly early on.
But I don't see the fact that I got the sleeve procedure as "dirty laundry". I don't think it's negative, immoral or unethical. Actually, perhaps my overeating and gluttonous behavior BEFORE the sleeve was perhaps a negative, but almost all of us (sleeve AND non-sleeved) are guilty of that behavior at some point. I just indulged myself more often and at a higher intensity than the average person.
Personally, I've told the people I'm closest to (probably a dozen people or so). Basically loved ones (family, really close friends). I'm guessing at some point during the dating process (since it involves eating most of the time), I would probably bring it up. Like....."Why don't you drink anything while you eat?" question that's likely to come up. Then I would just try to get a feel for the moment and decide if it's a good time to mention it. There's a time and place for everything as far as I'm concerned. But that's just me. It's everyone's own right to mention it or not and when they mention it, especially during the dating process. Interesting topic.............

I am also having surgery pre-baby. I am 36...would never even consider getting pregnant this obese...so if somehow close to 40 I have a child great...if not at least I can really enjoy my childfree life hopping on a plane without the stress, and sit on a beach somewhere! It will be interesting to watch the responses..thanks for asking this. I plan on trying about a year after I hit a good weight...I fell better about having a baby and being older than I do about being knocked-up and obese and high risk!!

There are many options to seize weight loss. You say you are only doing Proteins, what are you eating for Protein? Your body really needs a broader nutritional spectrum. Try adding nuts to your diet. They are a great source of health fats. You also really need dark green leafy veggies. Have you tried adding freshly made green smoothies to your diet? Last resort, if you do actually reach a point that you are significantly underweight there is Boost VHC (very high calorie) it packs over 500calories into 8oz shake.
I really think that if you concentrate on rounding out your diet, your body will regulate itself to a healthy weight.

Agree with others that you should have more snacks: nuts, cheese and fruit, Protein, veggies. Have a Protein Shake with fruit. There are many ways to add healthy calories, you can do it.

Never having had this experience, I can only offer clinical experience. But the answer is simple, take in a few more calories. My experience as a nurse is to have you add a few calories by adding a little dry milk to Soups, add some Protein Powder to foods, have one extra snack like a cheese stick, use full fat dairy, or add a little healthy fats to foods. It's easy to add calories, but the trick is to add them with the appropriate nutrional value. And if all else fails, a little ice cream every day isn't a bad plan

I would start adding more calories and healthy fats. Don't buy low cal junk and maybe cut back a little on the Protein to add a few more bites of fruits/veggies/carbs.
