Today makes 3 days Post-Op!
Congrats. I was sleeved on the 19th and am doing well. It gets easier every day, just be sure and walk to keep the blood flowing and focus on protein. Good luck!

1 week post op
My Dr. said I can have soups, yogurt, mashed potatoes, and cream of wheat at 1 week out; just nothing with chunks in it.

Telling workers or not... and rumors to come
Honestly I would just tell your coworkers. I did, and they have been super supportive. I did this for me, not for anyone else, and if they want to judge me or think I took the easy way out, let them. I don't care, I know how hard I tried to lose weight for the last 10 years to no avail, and this was the best option. I am 4 days post-op and am already off diabetes medication and am already down 10 lbs. Good luck on whatever you do.

24 Hours Until Surgery! Anyone else?
Congrats on your decision, you made the right one. I was sleeved on 12/19, did not require any pain meds, left the hospital off my diabetes meds, and am now just focusing on getting my protein in. My advise, for the gas pain (which the pain meds won't help) is to walk, and when you're lying in bed, if you get pain in your upper back/shoulders, do shoulder rolls. I also did circle massages on my stomach, very lightly to move the gas around. It helped me alot and relieved the pain quickly. I'm down 10 lbs. already Good luck and hope you have a smooth recovery.

December 20 sleevers
If it's gas pain the pain meds won't relieve that much. When I was in bed I would roll my shoulders forward, backward and squeeze shoulder blades together...that helped me alot when I wasn't walking. Good luck, it does get better.

pain when eating and vomiting stomach bile
Have you been taking your acid reducer? Sounds like you're getting a build up of bile and it's trying to get out. Maybe call the surgeon's office and ask if it doesn't get any better soon. Good luck

Let the healing begin!
So my adventure began at the end of July when after researching for several months, I decided it was time. On August 29th I saw the surgeon. The entire process to get insurance approval was pretty easy and I had no problems or setbacks. I was approved on November 5th, and could've had surgery the following Friday, but decided to wait until my work closed for xmas break. I was finally sleeved on 12/19/12 and everything went well. I didn't need any pain meds following surgery and haven't had any trouble with drinking as of yet. The biggest thing I've noticed is that I nap ALOT. I am working on getting my liquids in, so far I am up to 55g. of protein and close to 20 oz. of water, tea, etc. I can tell I'm full when I get a spasm type pain in my sternum or I start to burp...so I stop and wait. I get to start yogurt, eggs, cream of wheat and soups w/o chunks on 12/26, but I will start a day early as my mom-in-law made her famous potato soup just for me for xmas, and I will eat a little of it. I will see how my new tummy handles that....hopefully well. I'd really hate to get sick at her place because I know she'd feel bad. As for exercise, it's been pretty windy and cold here, so I've been doing laps in the house often and am hoping to get outside to walk soon. So far, I feel pretty lucky. Hoping it will stay this smooth during the food transitions.

December 19th sleevers?
Hi Biddy, are you taking your anti-nausea meds? I was sleeved on 12.19 as well and today I've been able to get almost 40g. protein in, and drinking gatorade and water off and on. I get a very sharp pain in my sternum when I drink to fast or too much, but I just breath through it and am fine within a few seconds. I'm not weighing until Wednesday, I don't want to get obsessed with the scale. Hope you can do better tomorrow. Good luck!

6 weeks post op...what do you think?
2+ lbs. a week on average is a healthy weight to lose, anything over that is just a bonus. Looks like you've lost 4 lbs. a week on average..so I'd say Good Job! Keep it up

I choose the right surgery. Right?
I'd stick with the sleeve, studies have shown it gives the same results as the bypass if used correctly. Also, if you happen to not lose the weight you want, you can always have it switched to the duodonel switch, which is the end all of WLS. Although I doubt you'll need to go that far. You will do great!
