I'll be 68 the first part of Jan. and just had my 2 year check up. Bmi now 22, compared to 41.2. Started at 225.5 and yesterday at doctors was 122.2. I don't exercise like crazy, but still make sure I get at least 60 grams of Protein a day, and 64 ounces of Water, which includes Decaf coffee. Even through stress and holidays, I have been able to maintain. I do still have Protein shakes as I still only eat such a small amount at a time. Put powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate in my coffee with some milk first to cool it down. Trying a different Protein, Body Logic that my surgeon now carries because it contains Stevia instead of aspertane. (Not sure of the spelling)...All my blood-work was great, but cholesterol was a little higher. Controlling with diet rather than statin, off high blood pressure meds, and Celebrex. Osteoporosis has gotten worse though due to how my body is using the Calcium even though levels are fine. Feel so much better, and can do so much more!! You can do this!!

carstanger got a reaction from FAT TWO FABULOUS in Disappointed and Hiatal Hernia
My surgery was Nov, 2012 and I was 65 at the time. I had a nonfunctioning gall bladder with no bile, stones in the duct as well as a hiatal hernia. I had a trifecta!!! I had the sleeve surgery, the gall bladder removed, and the hernia repaired with scar tissue also scraped off, with just 6 incisions. I did very well, lost 106 pounds and went below my surgeons weight goal. Have my 2 year check up on Monday so I'll see how my bloodwork turned out. Good luck. Get another opinion!!

You can do this! I'm 17 months out and now 67. I can do so much more. I walked 2 different 5 k's and cut time together ! I like Water aerobics better!! The doctor has dropped my meds for high blood pressure and cholesterol and the supplements. I started at 225.5 and am now 122.8. The biggest difference is clothes.. I'm proud of what I have accomplished! It is not easy but one day at a time!!! Keep in touch!!

We sold our house in Michigan and moved to a condo in the same town the end of October. Fixed up the main level and the basement looks like a ware house with boxes and furniture. Left for Florida Nov. 1st. Will unpack more at xmas and then in the spring. My lowest was 106 pounds lost, and right now I'm at 104 pounds down. Still using Protein and I tracked for two years on myfitnesspal.com. Trying now to maintain without daily tracking. Has only been a couple of days. Good luck to everyone!!

Hi! I was only on pain meds about 4 days and then Tylenol for rest of the week until my drain was taken out. Started going to the gym about 3 weeks and cleared for strengthening about 5.

Hope the surgery goes well in February!! I am so happy I had this done!! I did mine for health reasons and to get off many of my meds. I kept having more and more things going wrong with me because of my excess weight. Embarrassed to be out in public, etc. It's been two years since my surgery and I'm almost 68. I would do it again in a heart beat.

Body Logic, chocolate, is a new one carried by my surgeon. Has Stevia in it and I really like it at this point. I get sick of them so switch it out.

I drink optisource. It comes in Caramel and strawberry flavors. It was the Protein Drink they gave me at the hospital and I loved it. It's pre-mixed and comes in a little carton. I know you said you're not a fan of powders, but I think the Unjury brand is absolutely amazing!

Born at Camp McCoy Army Hospital in Wisconsin (1951).
Currently living in a Chicago suburb on the south side.
My paternal ancestors (according to recent DNA of my brother) are the ancient Stone Masons of Great Britain.......think Vikings (I was born with red hair), Orkney Islands, Stonehenge, with a 17th century stop-off in County Antrim, Ireland.
My most famous direct ancestor was Alexander McCullough who was a scoundrel, murdering horsethief, who was the last person in Scotland to die by the guillotine. To balance that out, we have uncles of that generation across Luce Bay, who sheltered protestant reformer John Knox.
Hadrian's wall was built to keep us and allied border clans (McDougal, McDonald, Ross, and Munroe) from harrassing the Romans on the English side of the border. Ancestral home is Cardoness Castle.

I made wassail using the no sugar added apple juice. I put it in a pot and added a few cinnamon sticks, some whole cloves, and thinly sliced oranges. I brought it to a boil and then simmered. It was awesome!

It's hard to stay hydrated during the cold winter months. These tips will help you get your liquids in and stay warm!

It’s no secret that hydration for a WLS patient is key. We’re told from the very beginning to “sip sip sip” our Water, after all. But during the winter, it can be hard to get our liquids in. Let’s face it, it’s cold out there and we really don’t want to drink water all the time!
Although water is the very best way to stay hydrated, during the winter months there are other, warmer, ways to get our liquids in. Here are a few tips that will keep you cozy and hydrated at the same time!
    1. Warm broth. Weather it be chicken, beef, or veggie, broth is delicious, warming, and comforting. If you make homemade Bone Broth, it can be very nourishing as well!
    2. Hot Apple Cider. You can make your own or buy it pre-packaged. Watch the sugar content, however, especially if you have issues with dumping. To make your own, put some of your favorite no-sugar-added or sugar free (100% juice) apple juice in a saucepan or crock pot. Add some spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, orange peel or ginger. Allow it to warm slowly and enjoy!
    3. Hot tea. Herbal or black, hot tea is a great way to get warm and to get our daily liquid requirements. Try a nice cup of earl gray with a twist of lemon and a little honey. Some wonderful herbal tea blends that we love are orange spice and peppermint.
Like we said, straight water is best for hydration, but during the winter months sometimes you just have something to warm you up from the inside out!

I was sleeved in June '13 at age 66 and 284 pounds. A year and 125 pounds later, I am doing well. Lots of wrinkly, loose skin but dressed, I look pretty good for an old chick. Back still kills but hips and knees are great. Happy and grateful that I did this.

Had my sleeve at age 59. Lost 105 pounds in first 10 months and maintained. Gained 10 at year 2; lost 10 at year 2.5; lost 5 at year 3. I was a crazy nut about following my bari program (eating and lifestyle change) exactly for the first 2 years. I've relaxed a bit now because I am confident in how I control my choices.
Used to be a power walker (up to 10 miles a day), but had to give that up 'cuz of hip problems. Exercise now is very limited, just walking 30 min/day on soft carpet, and Water aerobics 2-3x/week.
I DO think about the natural weight gain thing because of aging, but so far so good. I have identified that those starchy carbs are my enemy so hopefully staying away from them will keep my weight stable.
I do have those flappy bat wings now that I could do without, but in the "big picture" I'll live with 'em!
