  1. I have had people at work actually tell me that they thought I had gastric bypass to my face... I looked at her and said, "no" and that was that. I absolutely HATE that person now and frankly never really want to see her again. What I really wanted to say was... "do I LOOK fat and slovenly enough to have that done? Do I LOOK like the stereotype you have cast in your head of someone who needs that? Why don't you keep your uneducated opinions to yourself you horrid witch."

I am of the camp that I don't really want to share my surgery with anyone, I don't want the comments, opinions or uneducated input of people that I work with. Nor do I want to hear the gossip about it. Luckily I will be quitting in June so I wont have to deal with it much longer but boy do I know how you feel.

Why so much hate for the person, did that person do something to you in the past? Can I ask you why you allow people that you work with that much power to anger you? "Why don't you keep your uneducated opinions to yourself you horrid witch." Personally, that would have been a perfect opportunity to educate the ill informed.

  2. Hi All,

I'm really struggling with this & would love some input. I decided to take 2.5 weeks off for my surgery, after announcing my 2 week "vacation" rumors started swirling that I was having Gastric Bypass. Funny thing is -- I'm NOT having Gastric Bypass - ha! ha! and I have told no one about the surgery. I don't feel like it is anyone's business & frankly don't want to deal with all the opinions.

Now that I've been off work I've lost 25lbs & the weight I'm sure will start falling off. I still feel like they can talk all they want, but need to mind their own business.

    Thoughts?

Why do you care? If you aren't going to correct them and take away their power to annoy/bother you those "rumors" will continue to swirl around the office. You are giving them more power. Educate them, walk away and shut them up.

  3. I have never seen anyone on here admit to being a Dr, but as you say that may be due to liability concerns. I have seen several nurses who give good medical advise. p.s. I am a paramedic and sometimes have a clue myself, lol.

I didn't think so, I am just concerned that posters are asking medical questions that some are responding with a diagnosis and providing questionable advice.

  4. Well there are several purposes not all are weight loss. A lot of people do it to cleanse the system or to detox your body so you can start fresh. Though I don't know the motivation behind the OP. I've known people who had no intent on weight loss do this regularly. A friend of mine was all of 130lbs and would do it to flush the bad things he had eaten out of his system.

I was really directing my question to the OP. From what I have read the master cleanse is not a very healthy fast. I'm trying to find out if the OP is trying to jump start her weight loss or just wants to try the fast. Seems like the wrong thing to do for someone less than even 6 months post op. But that's my opinion.

  5. Just an interesting observation...I am friends with a group of about a dozen ladies, most of which are plus size. Only one or two is supportive of me considering the WLS, but it's interesting how everyone has gone on a diet since I've started my pre op diet. Afraid to be left behind or inspired? I'm not sure.

Here are my thoughts on this, why not focus on yourself and ignore what the others are doing. Far too many times do I see where "we" focus on others instead of ourselves. If they are trying to lose weight, good for them. I always said I could care less what others are doing as long as it isn't affecting me. Life is a whole lot easier when you take to the time to embrace YOU instead of others. Good luck with your weight loss! :)

  6. I think the hard part is getting adjusted to the wait time before drinking. Basically it is behavior modification. I eat until just before I have that full feeling and then stop, I then start my timer and wait for it to go off. In the meantime I find myself busy doing other things and most times now when the timer goes off I don't have to instantly take a sip. When at work I try to take a walk and talk with colleagues, before you know it 1/2 hour or more has passed. You will have to learn to change your behavior. As for soda, I would drink diet Pepsi daily, I don't miss it at all. Oh, and BTW I stopped the day I had the surgery (10/8/2012). The less you stress about what you can't do before you are required to do it, the better off you will be. This is a small sacrifice in my opinion. :)
