    Recovery time, nausea, and air?

I didn't have pain, nausea or gas. After the surgery I felt like I had a tight belt around my waste. The surgeon met with me just prior to surgery and advised me once awakened to take deep breaths and blow the excess air out. i dont know if that was the reason i didnt have gas, but i made sure to follow his instructions. no soreness or pain near incisions. I returned to work 3 weeks later because I wanted to make sure I had my eating , vitamin and water schedule solidified.

WELL...I'VE BEEN TALKED OUT OF IT...

Personally I didn't care what anyone else thought, because in the end I want to be healthy and don't want to be a burden on anyone. How about this, pull together some data and present it to your parents (Obesity vs. WLS the pros and cons). I would also add that you should make this choice not them.
  3. What do you think your surgeon will say? I think you already know the answer.
  4. Sometimes it's difficult for others to see our weight loss because our 20-50 lbs is like 5-10 on normal sized people. We are bigger people so it is only natuaral for us to lose larger amounts before it is noticed. You'll keep losing and others will notice, but don't focus on what others see, just focus on your journey. Good luck.

    Insensitive Doctor :(

You know you have a voice, either you chose to be a victim or volunteer. You didn't like what he said, then you speak up. This could also be his bedside manner, some doctors have it some don't and sometimes those hardnosed doctors can be better for us, they drill home that point to make us mad and we remember those words. Just take this as a lesson learned and hopefully next visit you will have something to cheer about. Good luck!
  8. See I'm very much a direct person, if I were in your shoes I'd tell them thanks for your concern, but it's a done deal baby. The alternative is to continue at my current weight and as a result have many weight related ailments which may potentially cause me to end up in a nursing home. Bottom line you always have to be your own cheerleader and nix what everyone else says or thinks.
  9. Why lie when the truth will do? Man up and tell them if they ask. Free yourself of all of the unnecessary gossip. Good luck!
  10. I still like sweet things, but since pre surgery I used Splenda and Equal regularly I didn't have a problem adjusting.
  11. I recommend you phone your surgeon or physician. None of us are qualified to make an Internet diagnosis. Good luck

    Things Tummy Doesn't Like

For those who have had problems digesting certain foods, were you forewarned by your surgeon or Nutritionist to stay away from certain foods like nuts, corn, rice, etc.?
  13. Wow $4500 and that includes hospital and airline fees? I would have a problem with anyone who needed an interpreter to communicate with me for such a critical operation. Glad you are ok.

    Hair Loss Vs. Daily Vitamins

For those who have experienced hair loss what types of Vitamins were you instructed to take post-op? Did you add any additional vitamins to your daily regimen? Seems to me that surgeons/Nutritionists post op Vitamin intake instructions vary among those on the board who have had surgery. Please share your experience. Thanks.

    Advice Please!

Consult with your physician. You will continue to get mixed responses because every Physician has different Pre-op instructions. For instance my surgeon did not require a Pre-op diet.

    Fever And Nausea

I think the best person to diagnose your illness is your physician. I don't think any of us on the board are qualified to give you a qualified virtual diagnosis. Follow your Doctors instructions, if you don't fell better within a reasonable amount of time, call for a follow up visit.
  17. Just tell the truth, it really isn't that difficult. If you are concerned tell management that it is your wish that the details of your surgery remain private. The bottom line is that people are going to talk whether it be good or bad, in my opinion when you lie you give them power and invites gossip.

    I Have A Question...

Every surgeon has specific instructions, however the instructions vary from surgeon to surgeon. Some surgeons require Pre surgery diet for months, others 2 weeks, some none, some surgeons only require multi-vitamins others a laundry list.. I would wait until you meet with your surgeon, otherwise you will drive yourself crazy.
  20. I really liked Dr. Bertha he is very thorough! Did you go to your Pre-op class? I had my surgery at St. Peter's. I stay in contact with a few people that had surgery from his office. When is your surgery?

    Two Dumb Questions :)

I agree! Greek yogurt has to be doctored up!
  22. I have plenty of clothes at various sizes. For my work clothing since they are very good quality, I plan to have the clothing tailored. Once I outgrow the sweats and tees, I'll donate to the Vietnam Veterans of America.
  23. I informed my manager as soon as I made the decision to have surgery. She and other select co-workers have been extremely supportive. I only told a few other than my manager because I didn't want to field questions from my other colleagues prior to the surgery because it would be distracting and I needed to focus on work because it was a very busy at work. I have no problem telling everyone that I had Weight loss surgery when I return on Monday. You think people won't notice you are eating like a bird now? LOL
